The George Hotel is a 17th Century townhouse enjoying a wonderful location nestling on the water’s edge between the castle and pier in the bustling harbour town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. This magnificent building is steeped in history and was once home to the most noteworthy of the Island’s Governors, Sir Robert Holmes who often entertained King Charles II. Today the country house interior with its sweeping staircase, ancient panelling, uneven floors and stone flags is complemented by smart contemporary flourishes. The 17 bedrooms are individually designed, many with spectacular views of the Solent or the vibrant harbour.

A great day with a really fun time in the George Hotel and their staff, the food was really good and they were able to offer gluten free bread for the fantastic mackerel pate!! All in all a delightful day.

We reserved a table for Sunday lunch. So glad we did; it was top notch. The Sirloin of Beef was cooked to perfection, as were the vegetables. For dessert, I chose Treacle Tart, which was divine. Service was polite, professional and attentive.

Lovely cocktails and bar area if you’re looking for a pre dinner drink. The hotel is smart and also has a restaurant. Cocktails are £9 each and include espresso martini, a melon vodka kind of drink and about 6 others. We had one with mermaid gin in it amongst other things and it

What is your food safety rating
It has finally got to a respectable 4 after many years at zero and 1. I hope this can be maintained or even improved to 5.

Surely people can't be reading the last two scores on the doors results before checking in?
I think people check the reviews as a reference, ofcorse everyone’s opinion & experience is different. I stayed at The George twice & loved both times.

As a potential customer, I will avoid The George. To have one zero score is a misfortune, to have two smacks of carelessness.

Hi Im hoping for a weekend in Yarmouth. What is The Georges scores on doors rating? Thanks
It's a lovely hotel. Period listed building with tasteful rooms and right in the centre of Yarmouth. However, in my experience, it struggles to deliver a consistent standard in the restaurant. Sometimes the food and service is excellent - other times not. Nevertheless it's still worth a stay and certainly in my view the best hotel in West Wight. Hope that helps.
