The perfect base for all the family to explore the thriving, seaside town of Deal in Kent and its surrounding area. The Clarendon Hotel, a 1763 sea fronted hotel which occupies an enviable position overlooking Deal Pier and The English Channel, offers good value, modern accommodation and a warm welcome to all its visitors. In September 2023, The Clarendon welcomed new owners who have promptly set about investing in improving rooms and modernising facilities. The Clarendon now portrays an attractive ‘seaside’ feel hotel with nautical themed rooms throughout, some with stunning sea views. The hotel offers 18 en-suite rooms which include 6 wonderful family suites all with direct views to Deal Pier, Deal Beach and beyond. One suite has ground floor disabled access and we have a number of rooms / suites where we accept small dogs. The hotel operates on a self-checkin basis (door codes emailed / texted prior to arrival) with a reception manned during the day and 24x7 security.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.

Wonderful stay in the Bernadette suite, greeted By Orla who was really helpful and friendly, great view of the pier and sea, the rooms are wheelchair accessible and to find something this luxurious is a rarity.
Because you are right on the road there is some traffic and pedestrain noise but not enough to bother us, also some noise from footsteps above but again not sufficient to bother us.
Great location on the seafront close to much of the town
Parking is directly behind the hotel and chargeable, but we discovered that if you are a blue badge holder and register beforehand you can park at the nearby train station for free.
We fell in love with Deal and cant wait to be back

My experience at the Clarendon was great from start to finish. The lady on reception could not have been more warm, friendly and helpful. She even left me cutlery and a plate in my room as I had mentioned I might get a takeaway. My room was large with a very large bed and had all the amenities I could need. This included a fridge with complimentary bottled water, nespresso coffee, toiletries, air conditioning/heating, black out curtains and loads of storage. I was fortunate enough to get a sea view room and listening to the sound of the waves in the morning was lovely!
The room was clean with a choice of pillows which I was thought was a nice touch. The hotel is ideally located with plenty of eating places, shops etc nearby.
A couple of things to note; there is no hotel parking, however this is available in a pay and display car park behind the hotel for £1.80 an hour up until 6pm and then free overnight. Sea view rooms do face the road and so some noise from cars/passers by. This didn't bother me but may be useful for others to know who like complete quiet.
I cant recommend this hotel enough for a lovely stay, in a wonderful location and great hosts.

I had a day 2 test delivered and they kindly left it in my room.
Check in was friendly and easy. The room was prepared with the key inside to minimise all contract.
This is one of those seaside hotels where several buildings have been connected. What that means is there’s a higgledy, piggledy route to your room which includes many steep steps and doorways.
There were sanitizer points on all the landings to use after touching the doors and bannisters so it felt quite safe.
I had 2 huge suitcases so dragging them up the stairs was not exactly fun but I did it.
There’s no breakfast served here either, but in the room there is a decent sized fridge which would usually contain breakfast items (I asked them not to put these in my room as I don’t eat them)
There is also a kettle with tea/coffee and sugar provided (also fresh milk in the fridge)
There’s a coffee machine as well but no pods for it, so you would need to go to Sainsburys to get these if you needed them.
The room isn’t refreshed during your stay. Another Covid measure, but there was the offer if I needed anything.
I had done a bit of shopping so my bin was full and as I left before any staff arrived, I emailed them to ask them to empty it which they did while I was out.
Otherwise the room didn’t need a refresh, but I suspect there’s a bigger job for them to clean and prepare the room for the next guest - hence them not allowing early check in or late check out.
The bar downstairs was small but often quite busy. I did it use it but it looked friendly and welcoming. When I arrived it seemed every customer had a dog, but I think that’s just Deal! 😆
My room was at the top. A small double with a small window overlooking the rear car park. The bathroom is nice with a corner bath and rainfall shower. Plenty of hot water for a bath too.
A small tv, enough storage space (a few more hangers would have been helpful, but I was here for 4 nights, and with another 10 nights elsewhere I had a lot of hanging clothes that I wanted out of my suitcase) and unfortunately there’s no desk space to work, but I just sat on the bed.
The room has a radiator and air conditioning- both of which I could adjust easily. The window didn’t open.
The room was quiet and apart from occasional doors slamming shut I couldn’t hear a thing.
I slept very well.
Behind the hotel is an Indian restaurant where I had a fantastic lamb naga and spinach paneer on my first night. There are loads of restaurant and pub options in the town and the hotel is a short walk from all of them.
Deal is a lovely town. I was here for work and would definitely stay in this hotel again.
In late October the sun comes up at around 0730 and it’s worth stepping out of the hotel to watch it. I went for a run and kept getting distracted by the view so the next few mornings I just grabbed a cup of tea from my room, sat on the seafront and watched. A sea view room would make this more comfortable but I quite liked being out in the fresh air.

Walking into the Sunrise Suite after a 350 mile drive in a day across Europe was a delightful experience, Looking out over the beach to the pier and the hugeness of the Channel was special. Collapsing into a soft sofa and drinking tea while considering what next to do, eventually reviving in a deep bath before supper was so good. It’s a simple recipe for a good night. I let myself in with a key code, found everything clean and ready for me. Next day I discovered a cafe for coffee and eggs and pottered on my way, ready fir the next 280 miles of my journey. It was good….. very good!

We stayed two nights in the Goodwin Suite. It was beautifully decorated and very stylish. The super-king size bed was extremely comfortable. There was fresh milk in the fridge and cereals and cereal bars stocked in the room along with bottled water and a variety of coffees. The staff and owners were all so friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and plenty of towels were provided The views from the windows are stunning and the sound of the sea at night is so relaxing. This hotel is in the perfect position to access all of the restaurants, bars and great shops that Deal has to offer. We will definitely return.

The hotel us in a prime location. The staff was friendly and welcoming We stayed in the Bernadette room. The room was clean and spacious. It had a fridge that had bottles of water and milk. A kettle, coffee machine and cereal. The bathroom was lovely, the mattress on the bed had seen better days and so had the sofa in the lounge area. The room was lovely, only downside as it was a ground floor room the windows did not open, but the room had air conditioning fitted (my age I was still cooking all night). There is parking behind the hotel, free between 6pm -9am with guys in the car park to wash the seagull muck off your car for a fee. I would definitely stay here again but in a higher room to open the windows.

We stopped here for one night on our cycling trip. The room was excellent, roomy, clean and very well appointed. Check in and out is very straight forward, all done on line. Rooms have free Wi-Fi and the view from ours was amazing - it felt as if you could step onto the beach! It’s also excellent value for money.

The Clarendon is right on the front so perfectly positioned for visitors. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Car parking is to the rear in a public car park at £1.30 an hour. While my stay was comfortable I feel that the hotel could be improved upon a great deal. My room was a tad drab, poor lighting, slightly unloved. It needs brightening up, with some good local art on the wall rather than generic pictures. The room was also cold and the air conditioning unit couldn't warm it properly. The hotel does not have a kitchen so leaves some small boxes of cereal in the room and some cereal bars (very sweet). I think a much better breakfast could be provided with a little imagination. The shower was great - plenty of hot water. I think the price charged per night is expensive given the quality of my room and breakfast.

Overall Love the sea views but hotel a little tired. Lovely place to stay in deal with a few local eateries.
Positives Wonderful sea views if you request a sea view room - I do feel this is worth it Kind friendly staff who were able to quickly rectify an issue on arrival. Although no breakfast is provided, breakfast items were provided along with fresh milk. This was great as were able to enjoy the sea view (although there was only one chair to sit down) along with a cuppa Beautiful sun raise - see photos
Things to work on Unfortunately as mentioned the hotel looks a little tired. This was seen in our room as there was a ceiling leak onto the window seat. This must have been wiped up by cleaning staff when the room was serviced but nothing provided to rectify this. It was a shame the window seat wasn’t padded as this would have made a lovely place to sit. The furniture was not great and we were worried the fridge provided would fall as the tables legs were bowed. Beware of the bathroom plug in room 4 as once in you can’t get it out! Even the cleaner left it in there! I managed to sort this with a teaspoon! It was felt that the daily cleaning was lazy (we decided not to have our room cleaned day 1 due to the bank holiday) and as I left pyjamas on my bed the bed was not stripped or changed at all whereas the other one was. The check instructions state that if any items are left on the bed they won’t change it but felt slightly let down by this.
To conclude the hotel does have a wonderful view of the pier which is open until 10pm when we stayed. I feel that the hotel should play on this a bit more on this lovely view. Ideal location to explore.

Hello, Your choice of The Astor Theatre for a show is a good one. The Castle opens at 10 am and is an English Heritage site. There are two further English Heritage castles in Walmer ( a short taxi fare away ) and Dover Castle, approx 8miles (13 kilometres) away, you could taxi or catch a bus from nearby the hotel.
Dover Castle was built by Henry 11 and is steeped in WW2 history with tunnels used during the famous Operation Dynamo, and the Dunkirk landings.
There are many lovely restaurants. I would recommend Dunkerley`s only 100 yds from here a lovely fish restaurant. The Bohemian pub two doors along does great food and has a wonderful ambience. There`s The Kings Head pub , you can sit outside at tables overlooking the sea weather permitting.
The Royal hotel another 150 yds away has a lovely seafront terrace bar and restaurant .
Whatever you chose to do , I hope these few suggestions help you to enjoy your stay with us and we look forward to meeting you. Neil V The Clarendon Hotel
