Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were disappointed with our first, and probably only visit to Reads. As we arrived, I mentioned to the gentleman near the door that my husband was following me, as I had left the door ajar, he swiftly shut the door, virtually in my husbands face, saying 'we must keep the warmth in'. A good start. We were shown to the dining room, which had about as much atmosphere and ambience as a dentist's waiting room. Bearing in mind there were just the two of us, we were given a large circular table; we had to move our places, so that we would be able to talk to one another without having to shout across the table. The food was nicely presented, and ok, but we found the staff were not very friendly. Our lunch was a gift from our family, for our recent golden wedding anniversary, we didn't have the heart to tell them we did not have the wonderful time that we were expecting.

Simply perfect in every way. Quality food, and quiet efficient experienced service. The room was spacious and clean with everything we needed. Particularly liked the pantry. Tradional breakfast was delightful.

just love this place. I go most weeks. a gorgeous georgian house - kind staff , a nice wine list- and best of all on every occasion you can find something elegant and tasty on the menu. they have some dishes they just can't take off because they are so well loved- wonderful souffles for pud. charming skilled folk - and rightly popular - long may it continue.

Wow what an experience! Visited with my wife for 75th birthday treat. She loves to cook and she is fanatical gardener but I didn’t realise just how Read’s would impress on both counts. We chose the tasting menu which certainly didn’t disappoint with so many different tastes and textures. When we learned how vegetables are sourced from their own kitchen garden she couldn’t wait to inspect it. Service from all the staff was impeccable and unobtrusive yet friendly in the cosy surroundings of the elegant small dining room. It almost felt like private dining. Afterwards we retired to our bedroom with its four poster bed and enjoyed a great nights sleep. Breakfast is served from 8.30 so time beforehand for a walk and the walled garden even at the end of season was interesting to explore. It’s a lovely Georgian country house and the finale was breakfast which was possibly the best “full English “ we have experienced. Sitting under the portrait of the late Queen made with thousands of pearl buttons was extraordinary. Rona and David are a great team with so much experience and it shows. If you haven’t visited Read’s I’m sure you would enjoy it and you don’t have to stay overnight but it adds to the experience. They only have six rooms so book early.

My wife and I visited for dinner with friends and then stayed overnight. The dinner was excellent, beautifully prepared and served. There is a very good wine list. The room was traditionally appointed and most comfortable. The breakfast was just right. We will return.

We have been coming to Reads on a regular basis for over 20 years. We have had lunch, dinner and try to stay over twice a year. The property is always immaculate, greetings are welcoming, warm and friendly. The most important aspect is the food which is a constant delight. Whilst the owners, David and Rona are still in control, Frederick is an accomplished chef who shares their passions and aspirations when it comes to serving what should be classified as Michelin starred food. The menus are designed to accommodate all palates but even when I was very ill with cancer, Brad , the maitre d, organised very small plates of food to tempt me. Service is understated but always excellent and everyone is very knowledgeable. It is so amazing at Reads that we intend to hold our daughters wedding there next year. Having eaten in the majority of restaurants in Kent, Reads remains a firm favourite. If you have not eaten there, make a reservation. You will not be disappointed.

Been to Reads a number of times for dinner and lunch. Have had the tasting menu and a la carte. This is my favourite place to eat - staff are lovely, food great and I love the surroundings. Its good food, good portions unpretentious but excellent, knowledgable staff with excellent knowledge of wine and their menu. This is Favershams gem - yes it is more expensive than most places but it’s a treat and I I always feel it’s worth every penny.! Been to a good few top restaurants but this is still my favourite by far!

Excellent food and wonderful room. We had the Cedar room which is huge overlooking the garden. Tasteful furniture, wonderful king size bed, well appointed bath and shower over bath, lots of towels and lashings of hot water. There is a pantry across the landing with tea and coffee making facilities and much else, splendid facility. The highlight was the dinner, perfectly balanced menu attentive polite service, could not fault a single dish. Breakfast came to soon, I suggest a walk before breakfast advisable. Will definitely return
