The Bell Hotel garners appreciation for its central location near the old medieval town and its inviting atmosphere, complete with comfortable amenities. While the staff's attentive service receives high marks, opinions on value and rooms are split, with some guests praising the cozy, well-maintained accommodations and others pointing out issues with room cleanliness and size.
Dining options are plentiful, though the quality of food receives mixed reviews. Parking availability surfaces as a minor concern among some visitors.

Booked through secret escapes for my 65th but would be worth the full price. Room has the extras that some hotels stopped. Dressing gowns , iron, toiletries including toothbrush and tooth paste. Good choice tea and coffee. Lovely bed and god pillows. Dinner not fancy but well presented and very tasty and good choice. Had the English breakfast only one item missing black pudding(lots will disagree).Staff very pleasant just need a sign by the upper till saying please check in at the bar as we stood around for a while. Staff made us feel special and nothing was too much trouble even when we ordered a wine sweeter than we expected they offered to change it ,excellent (didn’t change it e declined not their fault) Afternoon tea have experienced several only my husbands second. Again excellent service and food will recommend to all my work colleagues. Thank you to the Bell. Any changes to improve might be fridge in room very popular. Lock on bedroom door on inside

I would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful service received at the Bell. Reception and all staff, including cleaners and the staff at the breakfast were very kind, and dedicated to provide all necessary assistance for satisfy my needs, even beyond expectations. Room 25 is large and a perfect accomodation for a short stay: it has a beautiful river view, a little balcony with a small table and 2 chairs to sip a cuppa tea or treat yourself with a coffee as also a nespresso machine is available in the room with a selection of 3 coffee pods to choose from! Small bottles of both 1 still and 1 sparkle water were also provided. Note: there is no fridge in the room. Breakfast has a variety of buffet and a la carte delicious plates to choose from, highly recommended the menu a la carte!

Review based on £175 per night cost based on 1 person.
We had a number of rooms booked and had a few drinks in the early afternoon service was not great people waiting inside so easier to go and get your own drink.
Room is just average for the money you would expect A/C or a more updated feeling in the room.
Also returned to grab a drink with our group at 10,20 even as hotel guests couldn’t get a drink at the bar.
Some simple improvements will help the hotel to get returning customers going forward it’s like they don’t care which is not everyone. my personal opinion is to look elsewhere on future bookings in this area which is such a shame as the hotel is in a great location.

I went with friends as a first stop on my friends stag night, I selected a pint of Whitstable Bay Pale Ale draught. The drink arrived with no head whatsoever and was flat, I had taken just two mouthfuls when I noticed the glass was dirty, I spoke to the barmaid who called her bar manager James to whom I explained the situation and asked if I could have a replacement in a clean glass. Thats how it comes its an ale!! I was told. I explained that I was unhappy as I have had the same drink elsewhere with a head some life and tastein a clean glass, sorely lacking in the pint I'd been served!! I was offered a half pint of something different which I grudgingly accepted not wishing to cause a scene with my friends. In short the treatment I recieved falls woefully short of what I would expect James was in short rude and unhelpful. I and many of my friends will not be frequenting the Bell Hotel in the future. My partner and I booked a three night stay at The Bell on a b&b basis. Our second floor double room was really nice, and a fan was thoughtfully provided (the room was quite warm). Breakfast was a hit and miss affair over the break, sticky table tops every morning, and possibly the worst scrambled eggs we have ever had. The full english however was a real treat, as was the yoghurt served with fresh fruit & granola. The predominantly young serving staff were not very attentive, and seemed unconcerned with taking away the empty plates on which the full english breakfasts were served! As is our custom, we ate in the attractive brasserie on the first night, and again sticky table tops. The waiting staff again spent too much time chatting to each other, and I had to ask for water three times (the brasserie was not busy!). The food was not bad. Regarding parking, the hotel had sent us advance information about the limited hotel parking and the nearby car park charges. Luckily we were able to nip into a free hotel parking space on two occasions. If you have to park in the nearby car park, the hotel will issue a cheap (£1.50) ticket valid from 4.00pm to 10.00 am next day.

Lovely hotel located in a cental part of Sandwich overlooking the river. We checked in early and the hotel looked after our bags whilst we wandered around the town and had lunch. We booked standard rooms and they were really nice. Comfy bed, roomy, nice bathrom, toiletries etc. Lots of nice little touches which seem to have disappeared over COVID at other properties. We had dinner in the bar area - food was great. Good pub grub and nice wine, and reasonable priced. They catered for the do in our party too. The hotel is very old and has been updated,s ois nice a nd fresh, but retains its charm with lots of original features. We parked our cars in the car park opposite think we paid £7/£8 for 24hrs? There were 3 parking spaces outside the hotel and these had been reserved for blue badge holder guests - a very nice touch! Staff were superb. Everyone friendly despite clearly being under pressure with COVID related staff shortages. Nothing was too much trouble. There was a pop up smoke house on the opposite side of the river - worth a visit just to st and have a coffee and food whilst the sun went down. First but not our last time to The Bell at Sandwich.

The hotel is very shabby and generally unclean. On arrival at the correct checking in time we were told that one of our rooms would not be ready for one hour. No apology was forthcoming . We even found a toenail on the main staircase, which remained there for the duration of our stay. The guy on reception was pleasant, but made some silly mistakes, even down to almost giving us someone else’s room key. The room was clean but again shabby and the bathroom held a very curious smell and therewas no milk for the tea/coffee facility. The breakfast was disappointing with cheap ingredients and the poached eggs were overdone . We were left to wait a long time for any attention. The restaurant toilets were quite frankly disgusting as they were not clean and clearly hadnt been cleaned for sometime.
I believe you pay for what you get and this experience was not worth £195 for one night. Disappointing.

Room 17 is very small, the curtain linings are torn and faded, towel ring on bathroom door very loose, blue stain on carpet which had had been tried to be removed as the area was wet. Up cycled chest of draws in need of a repaint. Wifi was not strong enough to maintain a connection. Ate in the bar area, needed to chase up main course which was barely warm. Breakfast was served promptly but scrambled eggs were very watery. A shame, I love this hotel, and I stay whenever I come to Sandwich. An expensive treat at £205 for B and B in what was a tired room and a below expectation experience.

We booked to stay here for 2 night in the River View Deluxe Room after trying to check in early I was told noboby could check in until after 3pm without the receptionist even looking to see if our room was ready. There are 2 River View Deluxe Rooms one on 2nd floor with a balcony and chairs and one on the 3rd floor with no balcony and just a window. We got the 3rd floor one which is the same price as the one below with the balcony.
There are no lifts here so you have to carry your luggage up 3 flights of long staircases. Once in the warm roon the Wifi didn't work, the room was shabby and the bathroom was not clean. I went down to reception to complain about the Wifi and being given the worst room and was met by a very nasty looking old woman who was most unfriendly.
The next day we went for breakfast we waited ages to be served then was given a lukewarm pot of coffee. The food wasn't great either. There are only 3 parking spaces at the front of the hotel which you are very unlikely to get so you have to park in the car park which is £15 per night. I would not recommend this very expensive, badly ran hotel with a rude lady manager.
