Martin and his staff are amazing and the food was phenomenal - what a fabulous find! Sandwich is a lovely place and The Bell has to be the Best place to drink and dine in the area! Top marks!!! Squid starter followed by the meatballs - plus an amazing local rum - I didn’t want to leave

On holiday in the area we called in desperate for a cup of tea after a lovely trip on the River Runner on Sunday afternoon about 3 ish. Found a sunny spot on the terrace and the waiting staff said it was no trouble and promptly brought us out a pot of tea. We asked to see the food menus and decided to stay on for a very lovely meal. I had the hake in lobster sauce and my husband had haddock and chips, both of which were delicious and the service was brilliant. A great balance of attentiveness but not intrusive in a relaxed manner. Thoroughly recommend this establishment and hope to return again before going back home. Well done The Bell!

Room 17 is very small, the curtain linings are torn and faded, towel ring on bathroom door very loose, blue stain on carpet which had had been tried to be removed as the area was wet. Up cycled chest of draws in need of a repaint. Wifi was not strong enough to maintain a connection. Ate in the bar area, needed to chase up main course which was barely warm. Breakfast was served promptly but scrambled eggs were very watery. A shame, I love this hotel, and I stay whenever I come to Sandwich. An expensive treat at £205 for B and B in what was a tired room and a below expectation experience.

We stayed at the Bell hotel this weekend. We were lucky to get one of the few hotel parking spaces however the local carpark was close by and with spaces available. Back to the hotel. Its a lovely building fall of character. This character made the place very welcoming and it was in keeping with the surrounding houses of Sandwich. The staff on reception & the staff in the bar/restaurant were all friendly & helpful. The rooms were spacious and ours was 'dog friendly'. Yes the place is a little worn but it was clean, warm & perfectly located. The outside drinking area made for a very sociable space. At breakfast we were given an extensive choice on the menu and our full english was one of the best we've had in a long time. A lovely stay and we will definitely return.

Stay on several occasions at this hotel, great food with the breakfast easily beating all the other nearby hotels I have stayed. I book just for the breakfast now! Bar has a good selection with friendly staff. I have stayed in several of the rooms which are comfortable, some are becoming a little tired but these were the low end room price so expected. Good location with beautiful surroundings. Will be back soon.

The hotel is very shabby and generally unclean. On arrival at the correct checking in time we were told that one of our rooms would not be ready for one hour. No apology was forthcoming . We even found a toenail on the main staircase, which remained there for the duration of our stay. The guy on reception was pleasant, but made some silly mistakes, even down to almost giving us someone else’s room key. The room was clean but again shabby and the bathroom held a very curious smell and therewas no milk for the tea/coffee facility. The breakfast was disappointing with cheap ingredients and the poached eggs were overdone . We were left to wait a long time for any attention. The restaurant toilets were quite frankly disgusting as they were not clean and clearly hadnt been cleaned for sometime. I believe you pay for what you get and this experience was not worth £195 for one night. Disappointing.

Review based on £175 per night cost based on 1 person. We had a number of rooms booked and had a few drinks in the early afternoon service was not great people waiting inside so easier to go and get your own drink. Room is just average for the money you would expect A/C or a more updated feeling in the room. Also returned to grab a drink with our group at 10,20 even as hotel guests couldn’t get a drink at the bar. Some simple improvements will help the hotel to get returning customers going forward it’s like they don’t care which is not everyone. my personal opinion is to look elsewhere on future bookings in this area which is such a shame as the hotel is in a great location.

Friendly welcome by all the team from reception to bar and restaurant. Nice location in the centre of Sandwich. Beds are big with nice linen. Parking 1 minute away in public car park, but ask reception for a ticket for 4pm to 10am with small charge. Dog friendly. Nice meal and breakfast, would stay again.

Excellent as always!! James on reception is a real credit to The Bell, he’s so polite, so helpful really goes out of his way to provide you an amazing service. He even came out of his way to check we were all ok and then came back and brought a little treat down for our little doggy! We were let down last minute by another restaurant with it being 6pm on Sunday thought it would be tricky to get somewhere to get 6 of us sat down somewhere to eat. James assured us he’d help us out and look after us and that’s exactly what he did. ALL staff here are super friendly and accommodating regardless of how busy they are, the food is always fantastic, no disappointments at all. The Bell is always great every single time we’ve visited we always leave satisfied. Highly recommend.
