On arrival booking in was easy as all details had been taken over the phone and we and our 2 dogs were made to feel very welcome.
The bar and breakfast staff were extremely helpful, the dogs were allowed in the breakfast room, which was BRILLIANT. The breakfast, which was included in the price was delicious and plentiful and the check out time was very reasonable at 11 am.
The hotel had limited car parking but it was easy to park on the road directly at the front of the hotel.
Fantastic location on the seafront, great for dog walking and within walking distance of local shops, Whisterable was roughly a 20-minute walk along the seafront.
We would highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again.
Recommended.
I feel that, given the prime location and size of the hotel it could be run a little better than it is.
Perhaps once things return to normal post pandemic the hotel may be able to improve on certain things.
Overall, we had quite a nice stay with an amazing sea view.
On checking in we were directed to our room and on entering the room we found a well appointed double room which initially we were pleased with.
It was a hot day and the room was 30 degrees. As it was a 2nd floor room the windows had security tags so could only be opened a small amount so fresh air was limited, the bathroom window could not be opened.
However the room had an air conditioning unit. We set the unit to 19 degrees and left it on as we spent a couple of hours on the beach.
On our return to the room it was still 30 degrees. We called to reception and a member of staff came up. She checked the unit and said sometimes it takes a bit of time for them to work but it should do. We asked for a fan (the info in the room said they were available) and she said she would try to locate one.
No luck with the air con and the room had got hotter with us both taking a shower.
We went down to reception to talk to the duty manager. We were then told that the air con in the hotel was not working and the engineers had been called but would not be there today. There were no more fans because they had been issued to other rooms and she was unable to open the windows further because of health and safety and she did not have the authority or the key.
We asked to talk to the general manager to get authority to open the windows further but he was not available. We asked if she could call him (I noted he was manager of the year 2019 for Shepherd Neame) but was told there was no point as the keys for this were not in the building. We asked for a fan. The manager said she would try to get one but was unsure how she could. As they were fully booked we could not change rooms.
It is at this point where a good manager would offer drinks or dinner to offset our inconvenience but there were no concessions, customer service or proper apologies. We found the manner that we were spoken to unhelpful and unwelcoming.
The manager went up to our room to check the air conditioning herself. On her return she said that it was on the wrong setting and should now be working. Ten minutes later there was no change in the temperature of our room. By now we were late for our reservations for dinner and in fact on arrival to the restaurant ten minutes late we were turned away.
We returned to the hotel 40 minutes later and discovered that the room was still 30 degrees and no fan had been found. We decided to check out and return home the whole evening being ruined.
Even as we left the duty manager argued that even if the temperature says 30 it does to mean it is.
A disappointing experience. Things go wrong in hotels but good customer service can always make up for it.
We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the clean and comfortable room.
Top marks for getting rid of the horrible little plastic milk pots in the room and supply flasks of fresh milk as required.
The wedding was a great success with lots of helpful staff on hand.
We will visit again for a stay.
