We arrived late at night for a 2 nights weekend spa break. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the reception team and our bags were taken to our room whilst we finished the check in process.

Room 118 was large, absolutely spotless and had high quality fixtures and fittings. The bed linen was of luxurious quality and the mattress was very comfortable which ensured very good nights sleep. The room has a decent iron and ironing board as well as a high power hairdryer which came in handy. The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were also a good selection and the comp biscuits and chocolates each day were a nice touch.

The bathroom features a large walk in shower with food quality toiletries including shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and so on. There was always ample hot water and the range of shower head jets meant that it was always a nice experience. The television had the usual range of freebies tv channels.

From reading the room materials it states that the suites have sky TV and also Bath robes, I personally would have enjoyed having a bathrobe in the standard luxury room but there were no suites available for booking when we made our reservation.

A week before we arrived we were called by the hotel, they left a message asking me to call back to make dinner reservations. I sadly didn’t due to being so busy with work and totally forgetting. When we asked for a dinner reservation on Saturday afternoon we were told that both the main restaurant and spa restaurant were fully booked. The restaurant manager did some magic and managed to find us a late table but my advice to anyone. Staying is to make dinner reservations ASAP and there are a large number of locals who come to crow wood just to use the restaurant and so it was genuinely fully booked so take care not to miss out and spoil your trip!

Breakfast which was included in the room rate was delicious, the quality and range was more than enough and the ingredients were of a high quality and cooked very well. One of the better breakfasts I’ve had in a UK hotel so a big positive there.

In closing, the entire stay was lovely and the romantic weekend we planned was certainly met. I’ve reviewed the woodland spa in another review on their page but thankfully I was made aware that by staying at the crow wood hotel you’re given a great discount for going to the woodland spa and so make sure you book in advance as again we were only able to book in due to a cancellation.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made this weekend a great one, see you soon hopefully and keep up the great work!

We booked this hotel on a really good TravelZoo offer. With breakfast, dinner and a late checkout as well as a post-lockdown getaway much needed, it seemed like an offer we couldn’t refuse.

I called the reception to book it a few months ago and have called again a few times since to query things and every single time the customer service has been impeccable. The staff here are professional but down to earth. We’ve been to many hotels before where the staff just lack a bit of personality but not here. Everyone is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Shannon checked us in and out and was particularly lovely and helpful, she even told us about another offer available for next time - not that we needed any convincing!

We booked a suite (Royle Suite) and I mentioned it was my boyfriend’s birthday. We were welcomed to the room with a birthday card, complimentary bottle of Prosecco and handmade chocolates. These little touches just made the stay - thank you! Other notable little touches would be the free minibar with a great variety, the toiletries in the bathroom and the lovely view, even on a grey day.

We’d definitely say it was worth it booking a suite. The larger bathroom with a huge bath, separate shower and his and hers sinks felt very luxurious. Meanwhile the lounge area with beautiful furniture and giant smart TV made us not want to leave the room. We’d planned to use the pool but never got round to it!

The bed was huge and so comfortable. The ceiling to floor windows meant that we had a lovely view to wake up to once we pulled back the blackout curtains.

We dined at the restaurant (Wilfred’s) for our evening meal and breakfast, both of which were fab. The options for both were so extensive, and everything we tried was of brilliant quality.

We are going to rebook the hotel ASAP as I truly anticipate once people find out how amazing this place is, it’ll be fully booked up and nightly prices will sky rocket. We’ve stayed in other 5* spa resorts in the UK and none of them compare to this in terms of value for money, friendliness of staff and overall satisfaction.

Overall this newly refurbished hotel gave us a fab stay as I’d anticipated, every aspect has been completed to such a high standard. Our only feedback would be there was nothing in the room to tell us about the hotel facilities. We were interested in what the spa had to offer, or where the pool is located if we wanted to use it but it wasn’t to hand. Similarly we didn’t know anything about the other restaurant until we left and saw the sign.

We will most certainly be coming back and recommending this hidden gem to all our family and friends. Thanks again to the fab team at Crow Wood.

We were invited to a friends wedding and decided to stay over. Well, where do i begin? From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Reception and bar staff were all extremely helpful and so polite and efficient. The room was immaculate as is the whole venue. Every amenity was available in the room : iron , hair dryer, kettle with a good selection of complimentary teas and coffees. Set in a quiet rural location the extremely comfy bed and quality blackout curtains made for a very welcome and excellent nights sleep. The wedding was catered by the hotel in house chefs and the food was delicious. (Breakfast the following morning was too). The whole event was superbly handled without a hitch by a wonderfully obliging staff. Quite a number of younger employees who deserve a mention for their dedication and professionalism in their jobs. (Henry at breakfast, you didn't seat us personally but we watched, impressed at how politely and warmly you greeted guests between cleaning tables and busily ensuring the the diners comfort. Your bosses should be proud of you.)
The wedding was hugely enjoyed by all and the morning after we were allowed to use the pool and saunas as part of the booking even after checkout. The spa facilities are first class, (Award winning actually.) and as with the hotel are immaculately maintained.
All in all a great hotel experience. One we would encourage anyone to try whether for a spa weekend or longer or the whole wedding package which i'm reliably informed was so good it was by far the best choice.
Well done Crow Wood. A great time had by all and you deserve all the credit you get.

Spent a night there a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t fault it. From the moment you approach the entrance you are welcomed by the friendly concierge and when you get to the reception the courtesy and friendliness continues. The place is spotless and they are on top of the COVID situation. We had a room at the front on the second floor which offered great views of the well tended site.
Special praise must be reserved for the Wilfred restaurant though. The food was absolutely fantastic and it’s been a long time since I’ve tasted food as good as this.
All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone- my only regret is that I was only there for one night but I’ll be back if I’m ever in that local area again.
PS: I did struggle to ind the place on my car sat nav. The receptionist explained that a few other people have also mentioned this to them and the reason being is that it is a relatively new premises. I don’t know how this could be solved in the future but I do know that my sat nav was convinced that Burnley college was the hotel and I only found the hotel due to the kindness of a young women who drove in front of me and directed me to the hotel who I met in the supermarket car park after several attempts to get there myself. Perhaps the hotel could put signs up near the college to direct people?

Really lovely hotel with a very up market feel to it both in the reception, restaurant and rooms. Greatly warmly by a very friendly Male member of staff who was waiting by the door, very friendly and polite welcome. Amy who checked us in was very pleasant and happy and gave us the information we needed. Our room was a luxury twin on the first floor (room 105) not a great view from the window but that did not bother us at all. The room was stunning and absolutely spotless with lovely little extras. We called in advance and asked if bath robes could be put in our room as an extra and they were hung on the bathroom door waiting for us on arrival which is very efficient. Sometimes requests like that can be forgotten about and you end up chacing it up with reception when you arrive but not here. We called reception and asked for an ice and ice bucket, the lovely man who met us on arrival brought it to our room, it was huge and beautifully presented and he was again really happy and helpful. The restaurant was very busy which meant we couldnt get booked in until 9pm even booking around 7 days before. So book early if you want an earlier time. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and a lovely atmosphere. We chose to order chateaubriand as a treat, unfortunately it didnt arrive until 10pm but it was well worth the wait, absolutely gorgeous. Only slight criticism about the restaurant was that the air conditioning did cool your food down quite quickly but not sure that they can do much about that. The cocktails are also fab and well made. Overall, we would 100% recommend this hotel and restaurant and would be back in a heart beat. Thank you

I have debate long and hard over this review and this is my honest feedback.
We booked a Secret Escape deal and chose a Suite. They only have 6 and they are all on the top floor facing the lake. Ours was beautiful. Large and very clean. The bath was massive and the toiletries and bath robes top quality. The beverage tray only had two tea “pods” but housekeeping made any amount available we wanted. It was welcome as the “pods” produce two inches of tea in the bottom of the mug. A kettle and tea bags would be much better! The mini bar contained Prosecco, beer, gin, tonic and waters and was complimentary which was a nice addition.
Here’s my issue. Before I booked with secret escapes, I wanted to make sure there was availability in the restaurants so I called the hotel. This was confirmed and during the call I enquired about the spa. I was informed that the only extra charge for the spa was for treatments, which is standard and I feel completely reasonable. We went ahead and booked both the room and restaurant reservations and looked forward to a day in the spa.
The following day I read some of these reviews on Trip advisor and started to have some doubt about the Spa access so I called again. I was really disappointed and a little angry to be told that, NO entry to the spa is not complimentary and even just to get in there is a charge of £40 to £60 depending on the day of use. As this trip was for a special anniversary, we decided to pay as it was the reason for choosing the SPA RESORT! However, the receptionist then informed me that the Spa was fully booked and we couldn’t use it anyway! I honestly think this is very mis-leading. If you call yourself a spa resort you surely must allow guest to use the spa specially for the premium paying Suite guests. I really think they need to make it crystal clear that the spar is chargeable, separate from the hotel and not guarantee access. Rant over!
There is a pool available which isn’t as bad as some reviews have said. It isn’t as bad as a “Council run” place but it certainly isn’t a Spa! Its also some distance from the hotel and not easy to find access.
All the things said about the staff are true. They really do their best to give good service. A special mention to the housekeeping team who were fabulous, friendly and efficient with nothing being to much trouble for them.
We ate in both restaurants and much preferred Wilfred’s. The food is great in both but Wilfred’s was more socially distance and much more attentative. It took 20 minutes to get our cocktails after ordering them in Bertram’s and overall, the service wasn’t great however the Matre d’ in Bertram’s was excellent at dealing with our request for a table move.
Would I go again. No. On balance there are a lot of great SPA hotels to try first.

I recently stayed 3 days with my husband, should have stayed in March for my birthday but due to lockdown rearranged for August. The hotel is beautiful, the staff are a credit so friendly and helpful and very attentive to your needs. Our room was really comfortable and spacious. We ate the first night in Wilfreds which is first class the food was delicious. Our breakfasts were plentiful and very good. Our second night we ate at Bertram’s which was also very good and different in decor. Our last night we ate in the Lounge Bar which has a relaxed informal atmosphere but the food was equally good and very good value for money. I only took advantage on one day to use the leisure facilities but they are worth trying, and I’m sorry I didn’t pre-book a spa treatment as they looked amazing. The hotel copes really well with the current restrictions without making you feel you are in a clinical environment, there are plenty of hand sanitizer stations. It is an absolute credit to the owners, will definitely book another stay in the future.

We live locally but had a table booked at Bertram’s and decided to make a night of it. I have visited the spa and Bertram’s numerous times before and it’s always been fantastic so I was really looking forward to trying the hotel.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and all the staff were very nice. We stayed in a ‘Luxury Double Room’ which seems to be the standard room and above that there is then the suites.
Facilities in the room were basic, a kettle with instant coffee and teabags, safe, TV, toiletries and an iron and ironing board. The bathrooms and bedrooms are a good size and very nicely decorated with a powerful shower and a large bed. Hotel information including room service menu are on the TV, room service stops at 21:30, though it does say on the menu 23:00 but when we tried to order we were told up-to 23:00 is for drinks only.
My only criticism is that I found the bed and pillows provided really hard so I struggled sleeping.
Our meal in Bertram’s was absolutely delicious and we had great cocktails in Wilfred’s, I’d like to try eating there next time as the food looked really nice.
Breakfast in the morning was really good, a hot food buffet to choose from with your typical breakfast selection, good quality bacon, sausage and eggs and a cold section with pastries, yogurt, fruit and cereal.
I’ll definitely stay again next time I’m after a local night away.

We enjoyed two nights on a “Romance” break in a beautiful suite with views over the hotel lake, the woodland walks and Pendle Hill. Great for sunsets. Without exception all the staff were attentive and personable always aiming to please. Our suite was one of the best we have ever had. The modern environment was exceptionally clean and spacious but exceedingly comfortable. There was air conditioning but the windows also opened. We particularly liked the high Covid standards and avoidance of any cushions and throws on our bed. The evening meal in Bertram’s was attractively presented, plentiful despite it being ‘ fine dining’ and most importantly-delicious! Similarly Wilfred’s for breakfast overseen by Frank set very high Covid standards and had an excellent choice including home made cakes and pastries individually packaged for hygiene.
The thermal spa was additionally enjoyed but the hotel does have its own leisure pool which comes free of charge. We shall definite return.

We visited the hotel pre-Covid in February 2020 and it was incredible. We couldn’t wait to book to come again but unfortunately lockdown ruined our plans! We finally managed to organise a 2 night stay in one of the luxury suites.

We were lucky enough to get the Houghton Suite which overlooked the lake. The room was stunning, the decor and furniture was beautiful, it was cleaned to a high standard and the bed was the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on. The bathroom was amazing, the shower was very spacious and the bath was HUGE! We also loved that you could cast your phone, iPad, computer etc to the TV so we could watch a film whilst in bed.

On the first night we noticed a card in our room for room service breakfast where you can choose a “delivery time” and all you have to do is tick as many boxes as you want (mainly continental) and hang it on the back of your door before 1am. This comes with a tray charge of £5. We ordered ours for 9:30-10:00 and it came at exactly 9:30. The breakfast was very nice both for room service and in the restaurant where we ate on the second morning.

On our second night we had our evening meal in Bertram’s. We had the 2 for 1 burgers and they were incredible. The best burgers we have ever had. The quality of food is always second to none. We couldn’t quite manage a dessert after the burgers so we headed back to the hotel and back to our room for a short while. We then managed to get a table in Wilfreds for a Fondue for 2 and some drinks. All of the staff, whether it was at the hotel, Bertram’s or Wilfreds, were all very friendly, attentive and delivered top class service.

The only 2 minor negative comments I would make is that you get charged a pre-authorised payment taken from you at £100 per night. I understand why this is done but for £200 to be temporarily taken out of your account is a lot of money when it doesn’t go back into your account for up to 5 working days. Also, the rooms have gone extremely expensive since we last visited. Last year, the luxury suite was £162 per night where as this year it was £335 per night which is quite a significant increase. I understand that it’s been hard for businesses due to Covid as I own a business too but I think maybe a slight increase (if any had to be made) would have maybe been sufficient.

Overall experience was 10/10. We didn’t want to leave and we can’t wait to come back again soon!

Try them, either way it’s only a 5 min journey from Burnley's main (very small) station and 10 mins from Manchester Rd Station. Plenty of local taxi firms to book a cab. Your taxi journey may appear a wee bit grim..Trust me the destination is worth it.
