Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had our wedding here in January. Had a lovely day and night . On returning home we noticed some of our guest cards weren’t in the box were guest posted . After cctv evidence to police . Show no one going into the box . The box only moved to our room taken by a member of staff alone not with 2 members as was told . No evidence as been found of anyone going into the box . That leaves me thinking the place must obviously be haunted . I will not be returning to the venue again . Love to know if anyone else had things go missing. So so sad

Where do I start? Hannah has been amazing. Nothing was too big of a job for her. She helped out with ALOT of questions. Even with the numbers changing last minute!! The day itself was brilliant and everything we asked for was met. Special shout out to Stu and Alec who practically waited on us hand and foot! All of the staff were aware of a surprise (box of trainers) I had for Hannah (my now wife!) and kept it a secret and then help me give it to her. We had the best day ever!!!! Thank you so much guys!!! From the newly married couple Mrs and Mrs Brooks-Lamb

My wife and I had our wedding day at Shaw hill golf and Spa. And what an amazing day they made it. The attention to detail was amazing. Hannah our wedding coordinator and Alex and Stuart, guided us through the day always checking with us how it was going and ensuring everything went smoothly. The staff in the hotel were also very helpful in assisting many of our family who traveled from a distance to book into room’s early so that they could get ready for the ceremony. The room for the ceremony looked absolutely fabulous and again all the staff ensured all our guest were accommodated and in place for the start and assisted anyone who needed assistance. The venue its self is absolutely gorgeous and our photographer was able to use various rooms and staircase for our photographs and we can’t wait to see the final results. Whilst we where having our photos taken the room was transformed into the wedding breakfast and again the room and all the tables looked fabulous All our family and friends commented on how lovely the food was and how hard the staff worked in serving our meals, absolutely brilliant. We have nothing but praise for all the staff at shaw hill and we thank them all for making our wedding day so special and memorable. Thank you I have no hesitation in recommending this venue and I know you will not be disappointed . Trevor

i took on the task of arranging a well overdue girls weekend away so the pressure was on to ensure it was a great experience all round and thankfully Shaw Hill hotel did not disappoint. lovely warm atmosphere, clean, well maintained accommodation despite the age of the main house - actually the creaky floorboards were a gentle reminder in a good way. the spa was amazing, the food delicious eventhough the main restaurant and kitchen were closed but for me the 5 stars are for the staff. They were cheery and chatty and very professional. They made us feel like we were the only guests staying. When the refurbishment is done i really hope we can come back to experience a fantastic stay all over again. Alec, Jack and Tom have set the bar very high! Thank you!

I stayed on a Friday night as this hotel was close to the M6 motorway but looked like a peaceful location. It was indeed fairly under occupied so I was upgraded and it was peaceful & quiet which was perfect for a good nights sleep. I did however hear from the staff the next day at breakfast that if there had been a wedding on or birthday event it would have been noisy. I ate there late on Friday night & early on Saturday morning and for a 3 star golf club cant fault the food. Parking was easy. There is no lift but with minimal luggage I managed to carry my iwn bags to the top floor bedroom - room 1. This room has clearly been an office in the past and has 1990’s style decor. I loved it as it was very clean, the bed was small but comfortable, the bath was spacious/water was hot. The dressing room was also a welcome surprise. The 3 triple aspect windows were rattling in the wind but as it is a well preserved Georgian listed building this was no surprise. The thick lined heavy curtains blocked both light & drafts. In the morning due to the weather being sunny the views were a pleasant surprise over the golf course. There were children’s swimming lessons in the pool on Saturday morning but an adult swim lane was open for gym members/hotel residents which I used along with the jacuzzi/steam room & sauna which were all clean & working well. You have to bring your room towels/own shower & hair products to the pool area which hadnt been explained to me at reception but I had no other complaints. The chef made vegan food that wasnt on the menu late on friday night on request which was very helpful.

The rooms are so outdated and basic. Over priced. And the breakfast was just like a cafe which i expect more considering it was £15 per person. Would not return. The hotel is rather dated, the bar staff were either very helpful or didn’t want to put the effort in! Friday night we asked for ice, were told none available due to parties!! Another bar member came from party to get ice which was close by and gave us some. Saturday by 8pm they had run out of bottled water or couldn’t be bothered to stick up!! We stayed in the annexe which lacked any personality although appeared to be clean wrappers were found under dressing table. The bathroom could do with a blind as felt a net was inadequate and not very private!! The pool was good and treatments were very relaxing. Expensive hotel!!

The room was sparse, smelled heavily of damp and the floor was wet. The furnishing would gave been outdated in 1971 and they"d managed to transport a 1980s bathroom forwad in time as some kind of ironic homage to bad taste. When i mentioned the smell and damp patch on checking out, the receptionist said sorry and walked away. Ok if you close your eyes and wear a nosegay.
