The hotel reopened in September after a serious fire. The hotel is set in the centre of the historic market town of Clitheroe. The Swan & Royal a former coaching Inn dating back to the 1830's. In its early years as a hostelry, it boast guests both famous and some say infamous, in the local area and throughout the country. You can stay in rooms named after a selection of the most interesting of these people. During the day it is the ideal place to rest tired legs after walking round the market or the wide range of individual shops Clitheroe has to offer. At night it is a little more lively being in the centre of the town and it is also the centre of socialising. Weekends do get particularly lively with a disco till 1am of a Friday and Saturday evening.

Called in the pub around lunch time for a drink, looked at the menu and decided to return for tea, which we did and thoroughly enjoyed it, servied freshly made and hot and good value for money. Appearances and be deceiving as the pub looks as it needs an update, but it is very clean and staff are friendly and polite I would imagine it does get busy at weekends it was Monday evening when we visited and it was nice and warm.

Well the last time we were in here was before Covid and we used to go regularly for pensioners special, good value and lovely staff, completely different experience today, we arrived ordered our food, unfortunately the power went off, not there fault but it was not handled well at all, I am going through bad times, nobody came for ages, we were jyst left there and we were starving, then a girl came walked right past us can only presume it was because we weren't regulars and was telling some ladies what had happened, if we had not overheard we wouldn't have known, then we asked for a refund we were starving we needed to go somewhere else, no urgency at all, totally dusgustef

I really could not believe it when we got this "Review". As you said there was a power failure, it was nothing to do with us but the National Grid, all our side of the road suddenly lost power. you say you did not know what was happening, but I should of thought that the whole building being plunged into darkness, the music going off, all the bar equipment tills, fridges etc. going off may of given you a clue. You also say we did not handle it very well but in all fairness we refunded every customer in order and from the power going of to the last customer being refunded it took us 20 - 30 minutes maximum and as you no doubt aware we were quite busy, so I consider that we handled it very well. It would be very interesting to hear how you would of "handled it". You go on to say that you are disgusted well guess what, so are we at your complete lack of consideration and understanding !!!

several visits now excellent pub and accommodation . great location . food brilliant . staff cant do enough for you . rooms large and well equipped we normally stop Saturday night so very busy with music so don't think you can have a quiet early night. but we enjoy the lively atmosphere will be back phil carole

We were in Clitheroe and wanted somewhere to eat. We came across The Swan & Royal and went in. Prices were reasonable, food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Good drink selection, I ended up having Old Rosie Rhubarb Cider which was on draught there. Service was also good, I personally couldn't fault it.

Lovely spontanious meal, pretty quiet plae but lovely decor'. Great bar staff as so friendly. Partner had Minted Lamb Shanks and i had the Hunters Chiken..both meals were fab'. Drinks a bit pricey .

Excellent food and wine. and friendly staff. The food is well prepared and there is more than ample on your plate. The pub is very clean and tidy. If you're in Clitheroe this is the place to eat. It was an excellent find on our day out.

Visited Clitheroe and went to the Swan & Royal for lunch lots of choice on the menu. All four of us had a lovely meal, good large portions and very good value for money and good choice of ales.When we visit Clitheroe next time we will defiantly eat there again.

Always good good, I eat here on an afternoon with my hubby quite often and the food is always lovely. Proper home made pub grub so would recommend. The lad who works week day afternoons is always really friendly and chatty as well which is rare nowerdays!

Popped in here at lunchtime today and to be honest wasn’t expecting a lot. Surprise!! I ordered the cheese pie chips and beans and was honestly the best I’ve had for a long time!! Will definitely be coming back when next in Clitheroe. Keep up the good work.

Visited on Tuesday 26 th mid afternoon me and my 5 year old boy ordered steak pudding asked if fresh potatoes for chips was assured they was when meal came frozen chips something you would expect from a chain (witherspoons) the homemade steak pudding was very very dry suet overall the food rated a one at best but staff was very polite

Along with probably 90 per cent of all other catering establishments we do use frozen chips. I do apologise if you were given the wrong information. The young lad you spoke to was on his first ever shift and he was not sure what your question was. If you were so unhappy with your meal you should of brought it to our attention when asked if everything was alright. Had you of done so we would of endeavoured to put things right to your satisfaction.
