Stayed over for one night and had a fair experience. We were checking out the wedding facilities and were lucky to find there was a wedding on.
We felt second place after all it was all about the wedding and we got talking to guest who were enjoying themselves which I suppose was the staffs priority.
The room was nice and cosy and the bed was so comfy.
The windows were painted shut after all it is a historic building but became uncomfortable during the night as the heating remained on.
There was no bottled water in the room only tap water, when you wake in the night you shouldn't have to get dressed to go down and purchase a bottle of water from behind the bar.... a little more attention to detail would have been nice.
Breakfast was simple and the brown toast was hardly toast so that was left untouched.
We have stayed in a lot better for the same money and payed a lot less for the service we got.
The spa and facilities are now closed.
They sell it well by using the outside and grounds as a powerpoint and I suppose for weddings it's perfect as they focus on the many.

Visited on a recommendation from friends, couldn't fault the venue, room, food or service. An excellent evening meal followed by a few beers infront of a log fire to finish the evening off & then a top notch breakfast after a good nights sleep in a very well appointed room in the Lodge. At £89 for bed, breakfast & evening meal it's a "no brainer". We will definitely be back 😊

The wedding and the wedding food was great, no complaints at all. A lot of the waiting on staff seemed really young though and a little bit inexperienced although they were pleasant enough. We stayed for bed and breakfast after the wedding and our accommodation was the thing that let it down for us. Some of the rooms are in a separate building. It was a cold wet and windy day and even though this accommodation is only a few yards away it was horrible having to go in and out to your room in all your wedding finery. Our room was the furthest away of any of them and as older guests it felt a long way. We couldn't get the shower to work but when we went to reception in the morning and told them they just said we should have rung them. We didn't know how to ring them as no-one had explained that there was information somewhere in the room with that information. My friend left her charger in the room when we left and they charged her £3.50 to post it to her. We wouldn't stay again as we felt the customer care let them down.

This place is stunning. The drive up through the grounds gives it a feeling of grandeur , when the front is exposed you are not disappointed. There is a huge parking area. On arriving we found them Quite strict on booking in and there is no early rooms. Not an issue we just enjoyed a drink at the bar. The staff were very polite and helpfull. My room (16) was amazing, lounge area with a huge wall mounted TV, lovely clean bathroom with walk in shower and full tub. The bedroom part had a massive bed with storage and another smaller TV. The view was beuatiful overlooking a neighbouring farm field where our neighbours lived, the sheep. Something quite calming listening to them baaing. The first night we ate in the hotel restaurant , 3 of our family had a Steak and it was cooked to perfection (Well done chief), the food was of good quality with a large wine selection. The next day was the wedding, we had a full Lancashire breakfast to start the day and Again this was of good quality.
Stirk house caters for weddings and they are good at it, the register office is done nicely for the service. Then into the outside area or bar for finger food and drinks. You are then invited for the wedding dinner before the night entertainment. There's ample staff that makes things run nice and smooth and the food again was good quality. Really enjoyed a couple of nights stay here.

My husband and I stayed here, in suite number 6, for our birthday night away. It was absolutely perfect. We were served by several members of staff at various times and all of them were incredibly friendly, polite and helpful. They seem the type of staff that genuinely want to make each guest have a wonderful stay in their hotel. This effort from the staff is the main reason we enjoyed our stay but on top of that the hotel it's self was wonderful. The lounge area was very comfortable with a lovely fire keeping everyone warm. We enjoyed drinks here and also some lunch. The food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was faultless and good value for money too. The suite we stayed in was immaculately clean and decorated and furnished to a luxurious standard. The only niggle we had was the jacuzzi bath couldn't be operated by the buttons and only by the mains, also the shower was weak. If they installed a new powerful shower the bathroom too would have had a lovely finish. We paid for dinner, bed and breakfast and honestly think the value for money was outstanding. We look forward to being able to return one day soon. Thank you Stirk House.

Beautiful hotel in even more beautiful surroundings. Exceptionally clean and tidy with attention to detail on the decor. The staff go above and beyond and make you feel very much at home and welcome, nothing is too much trouble. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Can imagine what an extra special venue it would be for a wedding, very magical and exclusive feeling. Mid range prices for top range experience in my view, would definitely visit again!

Well what can we say the second time we’ve stayed here and again the service was exceptional, from the moment we walked into the reception area to the moment we left it was amazing. We stayed in room 2 and I ordered the romance package and a flower package both where in the room when we arrived and we arrived early, the prececco was chilling in the ice bucket and the rose petals where scattered on the bed in the shape of a heart my parter was over the moon and I gained some brownie points. Now if your worried about this being a wedding venue and thinking your stay will be disturbed please don’t worry we hardly noticed it was happening, the lough bar is kept clear for guest of the hotel and apart from the occasional wedding guest heading to there room the two things are completely separate we were amazed at how the service ran considering the wedding but honestly it was unbelievable how separate it made us feel, we where able to still enjoy drinks in the lounge after eating at the restaurant and not be disturbed. Now on to the restaurant all I can say is wow and I hope it has its own trip advisor page because I’ll fill that in shortly too but again from start to finish the service we received from Christina was amazing, we where one of two couples eating and the food was excellent id recommend the steak to anyone the chef is brilliant and the food is to die for. An extra special mention to James and Josh who also served us drinks and shots through the evening both also amazing at there jobs. The breakfast was again great with a help yourself style the chef was great and cheerful and the brown sauce is the best I’ve ever had it’s delicious but for me the black pudding and sausage were the best breakfast items I think I’ve ever eaten. We got the summer get away package which came with patisserie and drink on arrival which we completely forgot about, but on check out Christina hadn’t forgotten and made sure it was boxed up for us to take home she truly is a wonderful member of staff and a credit to the hotel. Beautiful place with gorgeous surroundings and a place we will eventually get married at. Thanks for making our stay so amazing guys!! On a side note we were charged on arrival for our stayed which I was a little confused over as most hotels are charged on checkout and food and drink just added to the room this was a little strange paying throughout the evening for food and drink but over the course of the evening I found this to be a better experience for me as a guest as I could keep an eye on what we where spending and I can see it also helping others who come and stay on a budget too so ended up not being a bother at all. Thanks again guys we can’t wait to come back already. :)

Superb hotel for a wedding, all the staff were super friendly, very organised and totally unphased by the fact that other guests for a wedding the following day were also staying there..we were all made to feel special. The room was great, but I was a bit surprised to have the window cleaner cleaning the windows at about 10am . Good job I was decently attired! The breakfast the day after was a busy affair, but the staff were so well organised and there was no pressure to rush. Lovely 24 hours!

Back from our annual stay at Stirk House. We have been coming here for years and it never fails to disappoint. We booked a suite, we have stayed in this one before with the large lounge and bedroom and a whirlpool bath. Dinner was again outstanding. Everything was freshly prepared and the cheese and biscuits must have dessert was worth leaving room for. Breakfast again was superb. We like the for us new help yourself to hot food. Not quite sure how someone who described the selection as abysmal came to that conclusion. Cereals, fruit salad, pastries, yoghurt, toast followed by the full English including scrambled, fried and poached eggs is hardly an abysmal offering. Our particular love of Stirk House is the service which is always discreet, friendly and the staff can never do enough for you making everyone feel very spoiled. See you next year.
