Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A walking group of 23 old blokes were booked in on Tuesday afternoon for lunch. Service was fabulous and all of our meals were well prepared, nice and hot and great presentation. Being pedantic, the pub didn’t have any draught hand pulled beer which would have elevated it to Excellent.

Had a surprise 70th party for my mum, Alex was so helpful in the lead up and at the party and everything went really smoothly. Everyone commented on how nice the venue was and how amazing the buffet was (they even accommodated our last minute vegan options)! I would definitely recommend to anyone planning a party, the function room upstairs is all self contained with its own bar and toilets and the children loved having the green spaces outside to play in and stroke the horses!! It was nice that guests could move to the bar downstairs afterwards and use the pool room and listen to the live music.

We walked from the nearby hotel 10minutes each way to be totally surprised at many different ways. 1 the quality of the establishment 2 the friendly attitude of the staff 3 the beyond excellent quality of the food The salt and pepper pizza The Greek salad & dessert This was excellent value for money As seasoned international traveller I would rate this as five star plus.

Just had my 50th birthday party at The Crown. What can I say. Amazing!! We were meant to be in the marquis but the weather was typically British! Moved us into the bar area. Staff amazing! We opted for pizza and chips for guests.. (including people with dietary requirements) didn’t disappoint! I can’t compliment the place, the staff and the food enough. Thank you 😊

Went on boxing day to celebrate a family birthday. As there were 13 people in our party a 10% service charge was added to our bill which I thought was totally unreasonable. Most of our party said they won't be going back.

Me + my girlfriend called last minute on a Saturday and the crown fit us in no problem. Food was excellent I had steak and ale pie and it was absolutely to die for 10/10. But what I was most impressed with was the service. The young red head girl is a credit to this business, she was lovely and really attentive she just did the basics of service very well which is rare nowadays. This is the 3rd time this year we have eaten at the crown, I really like this place and would 100% reccomend to anyone!

The staff were incredibly attentive and the Steak and Ale pie was first-rate, tasty with generous portions of vegetables. And of course, excellent cask ale. We will come again and recommend it to friends.

We normally enjoy the crown and had recommended it to family who agreed to come and give it a go. We left feeling really embarrassed that we had recommended it as it was extremely poor. We were at table of 11 and were all looking forward to the Sunday roast we had recommended to our family(one of which was my niece out for the first time with her 2 week old baby) We all ordered starters and 2 of them took 15 mins longer than all the others to come out it was the hummus starter so nothing that needed cooking? Then after our started we’re cleared the lady serving our table came over and said we have some bad news but also some good news “ unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings are over cooked and we can’t make another batch so there will be no Yorkshire puddings with you roast but good news for this inconvenience we will knock 10% off your bill” When going out for a roast the giant Yorkshire pudding that comes on top of the crown roasts was one of the things we were all looking forward to. If at we all agreed had we of known about the fact they “couldn’t make any more Yorkshire puddings” we would probably have all picked something different off the menu, however that was never offered. The roast came and were of poor quality “tasteless” my family said. Then the bill came and the 10%had not been taken off just £10.90 that someone had manually entered. We spent £242 in there and left feeling very very disappointed and very embarrassed that we had recommended The Crown and their roast dinners so highly. We will not be recommending them again.
