Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have stayed here quite a number and time. It is beautifully clean and very reasonably priced. All staff including the owner Jo are so accommodating. Nothing too much trouble. I can’t understand why people choose Travel Lodges or other places. This guest house is without a doubt worth a try. Many thanks to all staff for a fabulous and friendly stay .

Stayed here in two rooms for the weekend visiting my sister in law. Jo was a great host. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Great to have a garden area to exercise our dog too. Will stay again when we next visit.

Our Usual Hotel was fully booked - so this was the first time that I had visiyted the Normamby. I have to say it was a delightful experience. Jo was extremely welcoming, our check in was efficient and professional. Our Twin room was very nicely furnished and was a good size. The room was extremely clean and warm and we had a great nights sleep. The Breakfast was served in a confortable dining area, there was plenty of options - and although I didn't have the full cooked option many others did and it looked superb. Having said that - I was extremely pleased with what I had also. As a Guesthouse I have rated it as excellent - There was nothing that I didn't like or could complain about. A real Gem - handy for a walk into the town centre- plenty of food outlest relatively close by for an evening meal. We would certainly return in the future.

I think the owner is very rude lady, she also lets her dog walk around the kitchen whilst cooking breakfast, she goes into your room while your not there and checks on u. There is no parking, the showers are shocking.

We welcome any feedback from our guests, but in this case the lies written are hardly worth a response! This review was left to cause maximum damage. The guest was told to vacate the room as we do not tolerate drugs being used on the premises and also have a strict no smoking policy. I am also very unhappy that "trip advisor" consider this review within their guidelines, however anyone reading this will see that The Normanby is ranked NUMBER ONE OUT OF ELEVEN in the area with with a score of 96%. WE ARE PROUD TO BE TOP RATED WITH TRIP ADVISOR AND LATEROOMS. Thank you for totally disregarding the review!

I was woke up at around 11:30pm by my work colleague who I was working with to find both of our beds riddled with bed bugs, worst thing I have ever seen in all my years of working away from home!!!!! Shocking!!! I wouldn't recommend anybody stay here! Owner was very unhelpful when we contacted her to let her know as well.

Obviously we were expecting this review. I will of course address the issue but firstly I reject your claim that I was unhelpful. I was in fact on holiday and only found out about the problem the following day when back on duty. I immediately rang you to apologise and updated you on our policies. Had I been here, you would have been offered another room with no charge for the week. In 21 years of trading this is the first problem we have experienced with bed bugs. In case you are not aware, bed bugs are brought in by guests - in their luggage. In recent years there has been a significant increase in infestations in hotel, hospitals, homes and schools. We follow guidelines on detection and eradication but no policy is infallible. Since your complaint, the pest control have sprayed this room and all adjoining rooms plus landings. Against the advice of the pest control officer, the beds, carpet, all bedding and curtains were disposed off. All fitted furniture dismounted and sprayed. The pest control officer has visited twice and we are 100% clear. This has been very distressing for us and of course for you and your colleague, but I must stress that this can and does happen in the very best of hotels and has nothing to do with lack of hygiene. The incident has been reported to North Lincolnshire Council who have been invited to inspect the guesthouse and our "Bed Bug Control" Procedures. Our evidence of Inspections have been sent to environmental health.

I was informed that they cannot cater for vegans so my booking was abruptly cancelled. How hard is to provide a breakfast for a vegan from the range already available I am sure - Beans on toast, fruit, herbal tea - even if they don't want to go to the expense of buying a carton of soya milk!

Beans on toast, or any combination of hot non meat breakfast food is always on offer. In addition, there is a choice of brown or white bread, a wide selection of cereals. Plain and chocolate muffins, brioche,, croissants, fruit, nuts, herbal and fruit teas. I politely informed the guest that we do not provide the nut or almond milk and vegan margarine she requested and suggested she brought her own which would be kept cool in the guesthouse refrigerator until breakfast. She said this was "appalling"! The room rate, £28, is very competitively price but the extra cost of buying in for one person specialised milk and margarine was an unreasonable request. We always try very hard to accommodate all our guests needs, within reason. The guest was informed that the booking would be better cancelled so that she could find a vegan hotel.

Embarrassingly I left my wash bag behind the first time. However, it gave me the excuse I needed to return. I stay in many B&B's nationwide and I have to say this is one of the best. Clean, welcoming and a five star breakfast. The proprietor Jo goes out of her way to ensure your stay is as it should be. Try it you won't be disappointed. I will certainly revisit again, thank you.

Lovely room, as for the staff!!....

Arrived to be greeted by grumpy old man demanding cash

In the morning went for breakfast at 8.45 (breakfast between 8 and 9) was refused for being too late!
Next the fire alarm goes off (on purpose I'm sure)
Followed by a knock on the door at 9.45 to "remind" us check out is at 10

Overall lovely room but terrible rude staff, would not stay here again if you paid me!

From the moment I arrived the hospitality offered to me was second to none. Jo - the owner, went an extra mile to provide that wonderful homely experience. I would recommend this perfect guesthouse to all. And - don't forget Lloyd - he's the most adorable pooch who sadly I couldn't manage to steal! Well done Jo - and thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was our second visit, and once again it was everything you could wish for in a B and B. Jo is a perfect host that clearly takes pride in what she does and it shows. The rooms are beautifully maintained and clean, the breakfast choices will suit anyone and you feel relaxed and at ease the moment you arrive. Very reasonably priced and great quality makes this, without doubt an excellent choice for a B and B
