Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This is an ideal stopover close to the very pleasant town of Tadcaster, well worth a visit. Should you enjoy and support The Wildlife Trust I can recommend a visit to Askham Bog Nature Reserve. This beautiful plot of land was purchased by local philanthropist Francis Terry and Arnold Rowntree of the chocolate family fame, one of many within the York district A natural haven with wonderful flower and fuana to see and enjoy, ideally disable friendly with a decking walk way, situated just off the A64 follow A1036, also for any golfers Spire Hills GC is adjacent too.
Very Covid conscious and safety aware, spotlessly clean, beautiful rooms, tea and coffee available with refills should you require by asking friendly staff like Sue on reception. with a lovely smile and obliging manner.
There is ample parking available, most residents take advantage of Greggs around the corner for a breakfast in a bun or food of your choice to take back to your room, highly recommended, eat in comfort and top up your coffee with hot water.

Pretty basic, but did the job. Rooms very warm, kept windows open, but then road noise is quite loud during the night. Hand sanitiser stations were fitted to walls in room corridors although these were either empty or just didn’t work.

Handy position close to the Racecourse and the Designer Outlet where Park and Ride takes you into the city centre for a minimum fee. No cost to park at McArthur Glen - the outlet.
We made a day of it and then moved on to Harlow Carr the next day .

Was asked by receptionist due to provide a review as new manager was asking her to try get more 5 star reviews. This is that review that was requested, however it ain’t 5 stars.

Firstly, however, sue was warm and welcoming and even suggested a place to eat close by, unfortunately we already had a reservation.

That is where the good points end.

Local knowledge wasn’t really on point, especially for a hotel that we booked for and seemed as though is booked for the local racecourse. Not knowledgeable on busses or costs to York centre. Something I thought would be quite well known for staff.

Then the room, as you will see by the pictures had a few bad points.

The bed and pillows were hard and we didn’t sleep well for two days.
The duvet cover was put on the wrong way with the bottom on the side and not even close able , the duvet just lying open in the cover. Not a big issue normally but in the current environment, just weird.

The room appeared (didn’t search high and low but 99 percent positive) had only two sockets to use and absolutely NONE near the bed. Very inconvenient to say the least.

Curtain had holes in it, like cigarette burns.

The bathroom shower had no pressure, I had to lean into the taps to try get under the spray, seemed like the head wasn’t on right and pressure escaping the side.

The walls on the room, at the top had what looked like mould and on the bottom had coffee stains.

The room in essence was just very worn down and old. Needs updating.

With my work I usually stay holiday inn or even premier inn and as they are direct competitors, I can say they are 10times better.

Normally I wouldn’t have left this review , I would simply not have returned and left it at that but as sue asked for a review and seemed expectant of 5 stars. I feel the manager needs to up the game and fix issues that will make it more pleasant.

(I know the guests may not be expecting much and the price was good, but the things I mentioned are surely expectant as standard)

We always try and stay in the main stream hotels (premier inn/holiday Inn and so on) only because you can be anywhere in the country and you get a good standard.

Last minute trip to York for a night so I knew hotels would be full but 72 pounds for a motorway side hotel is on the steep end. again I'm happy to pay it as you know what you are going to get.

room 133 stinks! it smelt like sick or a bad drain. I couldn't locate the smell but it was not nice sleeping in there.

I didn't enjoy my stay due to the smell.
Made the room feel dirty.

Be aware that you.shpuld eat before you get there as the burger King and Greg's closes about 6pm and no where delivers. We ended up having a BP petrol station feast.

Travel lodge is missing a trick there not supplying some sort of food.

If this was a premier inn with their guaranteed good nights sleep I would be asking for my money back.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who was helpful throughout our stay. The parking was free. Unfortunately the good points end there. Although we had paid for two family rooms, they were both made up as double rooms. This meant that the extra single beds were folded up underneath the main bed with no covers, quilts or pillows available for them. Reception informed us this was an oversight and that the bedding could be provided however due to COVID19 the staff were unable to enter the room to make the beds up. We made the beds up ourselves and this led to us noticing a range of stains and marks all over the bedding.

At approximately 4:30am we were woken to the sound of laughing and talking - upon looking out of the window this appeared to be members of staff. As we had to keep the windows open due to the heat in the room this was unavoidable (unless there was no noise made).

The bathroom was clean however this became irrelevant in the morning as there was no cold water coming from the tap, or through the shower head or bath tap. This meant that we either had a scalding hot shower/bath and drank hot water or not have a shower/bath or a drink. When informing reception of this issue we were told that there was a burst water main in the area causing the issue. Hotel staff made no attempt to inform guests of this issue or provide a solution such as offering bottled water for drinking. We left without a shower/bath and went to the petrol station nearby for a drink.

Before going here I was not expecting anything great. Having read some of the reviews I did wonder if I had made a mistake but how wrong could I be. They staff were very welcoming (top lady Susan on the desk), it was very clean and I would rank as one of the best Travelodges I have stopped in. The whole area around the services has been done up which has helped make this stopover a very pleasant stay. You get tea and coffee in your room. The parking is free. Yes you pay for Wi-Fi but that’s not going to break the bank. You can get a breakfast box but there is a Greg’s, and Burger King right next door. Would I stay here again? Answer yes!

I stayed here with my little boy for one night. The room was basic but ok for a short stay. When we decided we would like some dinner but were too tired to go out, Phil on reception gave us some takeaway menus which was a big help. When our food got here, he brought it up to our room along with some plates and cutlery so I didn’t have to get my 2 year old down the stairs in his pyjamas. Phil also brought us some extra towels as the room only had one bath towel and a hand towel - his helpfulness made up for the tv in the room being no bigger than my iPad screen. Overall the place is ok but could do with updating and a deep clean but the staff more than make up for its shortfalls.

Very attentive service especially from Dawn. She could not do enough for us. She welcomed us after 3 hours on the road with a beaming, warm smile and she didn’t stop Smiling for two days! I fee Fawn is an excellent example and role mode
For the Travelodge brand and everything it stands for.

Considering we only paid £35 for two nights we literally could not be happier. We had forgotten our extension lead for all our kids’ devices and she got one for us to borrow immediately. She kept us topped up with tea and coffee and gave us directions and advice of where to go and what to do. We could not ask for more!!

Thanks a million.

Oh my goodness! The good bits....friendly staff, free parking, bed was fairly comfy.
Bad points....we nicknamed this the Bates Motel. Stank from the minute we walked into reception. The room was smelly too, like damp. Cleanliness non existent , bed sheets marked, ground in grime everywhere, hideously dirty bathroom, even had rubbish left behind the door from previous guest. This isn't great at the best of times but with covid around it's unacceptable!! We paid for an early check in, you pay so cleaners get room ready which they clearly hadn't. We paid extra for a late checkout and left by 9 as we couldn't wait to get away. I really really wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Train into York station, taxi to Tadcaster. Or Bus to park and ride terminus then taxi from there to Tadcaster. It’s possible. Didn’t do that but there was plenty of public transport about.
