We rented in of the beach chalets in The Bay at Filey. It was one of the nicest, cleanest, best located, and real value of all the places we have stayed. The place was very clean, warm with under floor heating and a log fire, modern and had everything we needed to feel at home. It was a 5-10 minute walk down to the beach / quite steep towards end (meaning a bit of a hike back home later!)
From there, it is a half an hour leisurely walk along beach to Filey centre and front.
The beach is wide and mainly deserted this weekend - perfect for energetic dogs and people who want the cobwebs blown away!
Delightful, clean site with shop, pub, eateries as well as leisure facilities - pool, tennis courts ….

This is our third February running staying in a beach house at The Bay. We absolutely loved the place. Again we booked a beach house as they are so quirky and comfortable. On this occasion we have been bitterly disappointed. The standard of cleanliness was pitiful. The couches were scruffy, to the point where we put throws down to sit on. The place was full of dog hair. I moved the side table in the bedroom to push the bed against the wall so my three year old wouldn’t fall out and it was thick with dust. The bathroom had toothpaste drips on the floor so clearly had not been mopped and there were fruit pips in the kids bedroom. Either the vacuum is rubbish or it hadn’t been cleaned. I rang reception and advised them of my concerns. I also asked if they could come and give us a bulb for the kitchen as there isn’t much lighting to start with and that one was out.
After a hour I drove to reception as I hadn’t heard anything. Whilst staff were pleasant, they did not seem particularly interested in my concerns.
Some of the issues I raised appear to be long standing problems according to the guest book in the house.
I appreciate the houses are privately owned so specifications and decor will vary from property to property but I’m presuming aria have the responsibility of making sure they are clean for guests to arrive.

The following evening I returned to reception to ask for the bulb to be replaced so we could eat our dinner with some light as it still hadn’t been done.

We love The Bay. It’s a fantastic village. But sadly we have been disappointed with our stay this half term.

I would visit the bay again, but there are some fundamental things missing which people should know before visiting.
The positives: great location, grounds immaculately clean, silent throughout the night, felt safe and was great for our dogs.
Our apartment was lovely, homely, very clean and overall well maintained.
Not so great, I assumed in 2020 there would be plentiful wifi as there is virtually no phone signal on site. Wifi only available in some apartments and extortionately priced in others.
We were provided with one towel each for a four day stay, a single toilet roll and 1 bin liner. I wrongly assumed these would be changed or I’d have brought more supplies from home.
Check in time is 5pm, which basically lost us a days holiday - we didn’t want to leave a car full of belongings anywhere. The queue to check in therefore was massive and slow. We only got in the apartment after 6pm. The apartment smelled strongly of cigarettes but was clean.
We tried to eat at the pub 2 nights, but couldn’t find a table free outside as we had a dog. They don’t take bookings. We then tried to use the takeaway service at the pub but nobody answered either phone number all evening for 3 nights running. We got a local Chinese takeaway instead.
I’d definitely return but take more supplies, not plan to eat at the resort and not take anything that needed wifi. Otherwise it’s a great base for some peace and to explore the east coast.

We booked a cottage here due to its proximity to the beach and the fact we could have our two dogs with us. However, when we arrived we could tell immediately the cottage hadn’t been cleaned properly. There were long black hairs on the floors in various rooms, marks on the bathroom tiles and then when we went to feed our little one, we realised the highchair was filthy. Luckily we’d brought plenty of antibacterial spray and wipes so gave it a thorough clean before seating our little one in it (it had dried cheese sauce on the tray and chair, dried cereal on the straps and other food wedged in it). We then decided to give the whole cottage a bit more of an inspection and a clean, as we were concerned that it hadn’t been cleaned properly, which isn’t great at any time but especially not in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. My husband hoovered the whole cottage, to get rid of all the hairs, and whilst he was cleaning found a sanitary pad wrapper on the bedroom floor and dried contact lenses on the bedside cabinet. I then set to with the antibacterial spray and cloths we’d brought. I found dirty crockery in the kitchen cupboards, the end off a tomato in a filthy cutlery drawer, marks on the bathroom tiles that came off easily with a wipe and the head off a razor under the bath plug. The whole place had clearly not been cleaned. I put all of the plates, bowls, cups and crockery in the dishwasher immediately, then had to put in all the oven trays and pans as we found dried bean juice on pans and food on the trays. Not the start you want to a holiday.
The gardens of the cottages are not great if you have dogs or small children - not only are thy large shared gardens with some of the cottages, which I can cope with as long as everyone is fine with dogs, but there were areas where dogs or kids could get out onto the road or car parking areas easily, so if we were outside both of us had to be out as we had two dogs (very well trained, but still dogs who will go off to investigate) and a 19 month old with us, and one of us alone couldn’t have easily kept all three safe.
The on-site pool is great, and the small pool was warm which is good for little ones. It was easy to book our slots and the staff were really friendly. The food from the pub was good but incredibly pricey. We didn’t try the cafe, but the menu seemed decent. I’m surprised there was a pharmacy but no mini market on a site like this. Instead we had to drive to the local garage for milk and bread, or to a supermarket in Filey for other food.
The location is fantastic with just a short walk across the site and down to the beach (although the walk back up is one you need to prepare yourself for, especially if pushing a pram!)
It’s such a shame the cottage was so unclean when we arrived, as it would otherwise have been a very enjoyable holiday.

We stayed for a week in August 2020 at The Bay for the first time. We had a detached 3 Bed Premium Cottage, the property itself was fantastic, bigger than expected, nice open plan design with Bi-Fold Doors both upstairs and downstairs. Nice big grassed area directly out side for the dog and children to play.

The problem was around the cleanliness of the property, I has to give it a good deep clean before we felt comfortable to unpack and relax which is not what I really wanted to do after a 4 hour drive there. I came prepared just in case thankfully!

To say we are in a pandemic I would have expected a lot better standard of cleaning.

I have to wash all of the crockery and cutlery in the cupboards before use, these were not clean. I could smell and feel old cooking grease on the kitchen cupboard fronts.
The fire place, sofa and blinds were covered in visible thick dust, so I got the hoover out! This was a build up of not having a deep clean. The bed frames again were thick of dust and the bathrooms we not completely clean, not sure the shower screens has even been touched.
One of the showers was blocked, and thick of sand and hair so we couldn't use that.

The beds were uncomfortable and old, the bedding was cheap and old, looking at the pillows underneath the cases, these need binning! The drawer we not clean in the bedrooms or hall way, hairs and dust found in most.

The BBQ outside was very dirty and rusty, it had not even had the ashes cleaned out for a while.

All the cooking tins and pizza trays were rusty and old, I couldn't uses these.

With or without Covid, I expect all of the above to be on top of for £1500+ a week.

We would normally pay this about (and then some) for a UK week away, but the cleaning standard would be a lot higher, and the furnishings would be of a higher quality.

Such a shame as the property has potential to be perfect! It needs an investment in upgrading the soft furnishings and certainly a deep clean which needs to be maintained.

We stayed in a beach house last weekend, two adults and a 22 week old puppy , and we all really enjoyed our stay.
I’ll start with the small negatives, the deep clean of the accommodation is not too good with dust in quite a few areas of the beach house, the refuse bins were overflowing with waste when we checked out and the cooking utensils leave a bit to be desired.
Now the positives, the beach house is very nice with a lot of light, comfortably furnished and nicely decorated with a nautical beach theme throughout. The site was nice peaceful and quiet with well maintained grassed areas and no litter anywhere.
The site is constantly patrolled by site security and feels safe and secure, we ate and drank at the on site cafe and pub, both with friendly and welcoming staff the food was nice as was the drinks.
The beach and what a beach Filey has, is a 10 minutes walk and is dog friendly.
We enjoyed our stay so much we’ve booked again for next year

After having our family holiday was cancelled due to Covid 19 I booked in July for a 4 night getaway. There wasn’t a lot of choice left so we we booked a 3 bed cottage via the Aria website. We were given 39 Sunrise Drive, a 3 bedroom pet friendly cottage.
The pros- lovely resort, well kept and helpful friendly staff. The beach is a short walk, the archery and rifle shooting were entertaining, the pool was very clean, and the takeaway food from the onsite pub was tasty, but a bit over priced.
The cottage was basic, no frills, but adequate, but we did have WIFI & Netflix. The kitchen area was clean and well equipped on the whole. The beds were comfortable. And the area was quiet.
The cons- on arrival at the cottage the door handle came off in my hand. And so did the patio door handle. Then we found that we didn’t have any keys to the patio door! After 2 phone calls to reception the maintenance guy came out and on Wednesday morning after arriving on Monday evening put a temporary new handle on it, and temporarily fixed the front door handle too. There were also a couple of lights not working, no frying pan, the main bedroom with the Ensuite were really small, and the chest of drawers were falling apart and we could only use the top 2.
The kitchen table was sticky, after cleaning it and the table mats a good deal of grime came off onto my cloth. There was dirt and grime and rubbish behind the bedside cabinets in the other bedrooms, the skirting boards all round the cottage were dirty. The shower in the Ensuite was good except the water didn’t drain away fast enough so you could end up flooding. There was also a light not working, and the toilet roll had fallen into the toilet by the looks of it and then put back to be dried out for us to use! On emptying the bin there were dozens of pistachio shells and dirt at the bottom of the bin.
Believe it or not we did enjoy our short stay, but I believe the cleaning and maintenance of this cottage could be better. It needs a refresh and some TLC for the money we paid!

Just returned from a few days on The Bay. We were in a beach lodge with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Each bedroom had a decking area outside the patio doors, the lodge had a large decking area at the front all with outdoor furniture. The lodge was lovely, beautifully decorated and away from the main thoroughfares so nice and quiet, although there is a children’s play area at the back there was little noise or disturbance. Everything was provided only WIFI missing!

We stayed in a new 2 bedroom Meadows Lodge which was immaculate. The master bedroom had an en-suite with rainfall walk in shower and the 2nd bedroom had a Jack and Jill bathroom, also with a rainfall shower. The open plan kitchen diner and lounge had everything you could want including dishwasher, oven, microwave and fridge freezer. There was an eco friendly log burner and sliding doors onto the decking with lovely outdoor furniture and umbrella.
The lodge was only a few minutes walk to the Bayside Kitchen which served breakfast, sandwiches and cakes. You can either eat at the cafe or takeaway which we did quite often and had bacon cobs on the decking.
The walk down to the beach is stunning and the beach is beautiful. You can walk along the beach 30/40 minutes to the centre of Filey.
Lots of places to visit, only a short drive to Filey, an hour to York, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. We visited Flamborough Head 20 mins away and did a costal walk where we saw puffins!

The bay is a lovely place to stay and perfect location, we were able to visit Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey. The staff were really welcoming and friendly especially during these strange times with Covid-19 we used the pub, swimming, arcade pool and park during our stay.
The accommodation itself was very clean I just feel it needs work on the little finishing touches as in the kitchen everything was just thrown into the drawers, in one of the bedrooms the drawers were hanging off, the fire place has been plastered but not painted over and there were a few other things that were broken. For the money we paid I would expect a bit more attention to detail.

Only guests can book to use swimming and sports things but it’s a holiday village, not a holiday camp, and locals use the pub and shops. There is security at night so not sure if guests could enter once the security team are on but during the day don’t think it’s a problem having visitors
