Stayed here for 2 nights whilst in Scarborough visiting family and was really pleased with our room. Everything was clean and very well equipped. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff especially Lucy who went above and beyond. Can't wait to return again in June

My husband and I took a trip to Filey today, Bank Holiday, because we intended to make a holiday reservation and I had messaged the hotel a couple of days previously to enquire about resident parking. The reply was that the car park was currently closed but there was plenty of on street parking near the hotel. So, having a car that is quite new, we went to take a look for ourselves and make the reservation whilst we were there. It was a lovely day, lots of people about, the sun was shining, and we saw that the hotel was in a wonderful position overlooking the bay. We decided to ask for a table for lunch and were shown into the dining room, which was very nice, not too many people, and were given the days menu. Our drinks order was taken and received and then for the meal order. We were at the seaside so decided on fish and chips. Sorry no fish. The waitress said it had been very busy and there was no fish to be had anywhere in Filey! So my husband said he would have the steak and Guinness pie and I said I would have moules mariniere. Sorry no Steak pie. Sorry no moules. Sorry no hot sandwiches apart from chicken gougons (in a sandwich!). At this point we asked for the bill for our drinks and left, without finding what else was unavailable, and without making a holiday reservation. We walked a couple of hundred yards down to the coble landing where there were 3 fish and chip shops doing a roaring trade in the fish that was unavailable anywhere in Filey. We waited in one of the queues, paid for our fish and chips with the couple of hundred other visitors, and enjoyed delicious food sitting looking out to sea. Sorry Downcliffe House Hotel, but if you advertise a daily lunch menu, on a Bank Holiday at lunchtime, you should make more effort to satisfy your diners, and don’t attempt to make fools of them!

This was our second pre-Christmas break at Downcliffe House, postponed for a year due to the pandemic, but well worth the wait. We arrived on a horrible wet Wednesday and were greeted with smiles and help with our cases, which immediately brightened our day. Our rooms were spacious and as delightfully quirky, as we'd remembered. The views around the bay at all times are just superb. The staff are wonderful, smiles and cheerful chat at all times of day, nothing is too much trouble. The food is just something else, it's fantastic! Diets can just wait a while, quality meals like these are too good to waste! Our friend's unfortunate accident on our final evening was deal with with great thoughtfulness and care, despite having paramedics and ambulance staff tramping up and down stairs! Everyone wanted to know if there was anything they could do to help, our especial thanks to Lizzy for her kind thoughts. This is certainly one place high on our list of hotels to revisit!

I have a special place in my heart for filey, we went as children for many day trips and holidays, my dads ashes are scattered there and we’ve taken the ashes of 6 of our beloved dogs to be with my dad. For years now we’ve walked by the hotel and said we really should stay here. Finally we have and oh my word, don’t know where to start. Decor, food and every staff member were beyond our expectations. The only thing I could fault was we only booked 2 nights. We’re real foodies and both evenings we had the best food, quality ingredients, freshly prepared and brought to our table in no time, same at breakfast. Even now with Covid there’s so many supply chain difficulties and shortages of things but they worked their way round it. Couldn’t recommend staying and eating here enough and this certainly won’t be our only stay. Thank you all for making two nights so absolutely enjoyable
