Really friendly welcome on arrival for two tired Pennine Way walkers. All the Covid-19 guidelines in place were patiently explained and we felt safe and comfortable with all the sensible arrangements put in place. Excellent drying room - everything being just what we needed, including Black Sheep ale for sale to accompany our fish'n chips supper from the local chippie (also very highly recommended)!!

We really enjoyed our two night stay at YHA Hawes. We were hugely reassured by the COVID-secure processes in place, from being presented with a key freshly sprayed with antibac at check in to some of the cleanest bathrooms we’d ever seen. Our family room was also super clean, with snuggly covers for cool evenings, though one of the beds had a slat completely missing in the middle (the other slats were nailed down so couldn’t be spread out) which made it hugely uncomfortable.
We liked having a dedicated table in the lounge, as well as access to tea and coffee making and a fridge, even though we weren’t able to cook. Some of the tables were pretty close together and this was a bit anxiety making. I know dedicated tables had been put in place for a reason, but it was hard to relax when the only two occupied tables in the whole large room were the two closest to each other, and someone at the other was coughing repeatedly!
It made us sad to see the lovely sofas and games/books all packed away/taped up because of the virus. We’d love to come back at another time to make full use of them. It’s a lovely hostel in a lovely area, managed by a friendly team. Thanks!

YHA Hawes offers excellent budget accomodation; so clean facilities and an excellent members kitchen. The views from the lounge are fabulous set as it in the Yorkshire dales, and the lounge is a lovely place to share experiences and chat. The best however is saved until last and the morning; because its only then that you find this hostel's real raison d'etre. Because the breakfasts are of a standard you couldn't rightfully expect from an establishment charging 4 times the price. As a vegatarian, I often feel short changed by an English breakfast peddling veggy fake sausages and the like, but here the options are creative and imaginative, oh and it tastes fantastic. Not that carnivores need worry; the bacon, meaty sausages, you name it, looked pretty good too. Add on beautiful croissants, an array of fresh fruit, overnight oats to die for, and anything else that might spring to mind, and I was left feeling slightly guilty that I hadn't been charged significantly more for what was a culinary delight.......it's that good. So yeah, you really need to stay here!!!

Response from YHAHawes, Manager at YHA Hawes
Responded 18 Mar 2020
Hi Andy - thanks so much for your kind review. Sounds like you enjoyed our breakfast! :) We think it is the most important meal of the day and one that, hopefully, sets our guests up for a wonderful day in the fabulous Dales. Such feedback is so welcome and we genuinely thank you for taking the time to do so. As you say, we are blessed being in such a great location with fantastic landscape views all round - I never tire of the Wensleydale valley and Stag's Fell views from the lounge that can be so different on a daily basis. We do so hope we can welcome you back to the hostel in the future and at a time when all our current shared troubles are behind us. Best regards Grenville - YHA Hawes Manager

Stopped here the night before our group walked the Yorkshire three peaks. First time at this hostel and I cannot fault it.

The host was welcoming and help sort out two rooms for our groups need. Very thankful for that! (plus always nice to talk to someone from our neck of the woods)

Looks like the hostel has a had a refurb from what my mate had said who had stopped there before. Rooms were light and fresh and plenty of space for our needs.

Well ran and thought out in regards to social distancing. Small space for parking outside so if you're early you might be lucky. Very close to local bars and restaurants.

Will definitely stop here again if in the area. Was just a shame we couldn't get a second night here for after the walk as it was fully booked as i would have happily returned to rest my legs.

Fantastic location close to 3 peaks and overlooking maginificient views from elevated position in Hawes. Room, dining room and kitchen all had stunning views. Town was just a 5 min walk away for dinner - great pub. Breakfast plenty of variety was sumptuous - continental was a huge bowl of fruit, selection of cheeses and pastries. Facilities were spotless - shared bathroom had shiny chrome taps and whiter than white sink and loo. Shared only by one other room so not a problem at all. Best YHA we have stayed in so far ( stayed in about 10 others).

Our thanks to all the staff. What an excellent hostel this is. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. All of the facilities were exceptionally clean and well kept kept. The breakfast was delicious and the self catering kitchen was spotless and well stocked with plenty of equipment. A spacious storing / drying room was used to store our kit overnight. I'll definitely be back again soon!

The staff were friendly and welcoming and the rooms clean and comfortable. A lovely open common room which gave a great social atmosphere in the evenings. There is a well-stocked bar, and a eclectic selection of board games to suit all ages. Also a wide selection of books.
There is a large drying room, which is ideal when caught out in the rain (which is common in that part of the country).
Additional nice touches were the fresh flowers in the common room (replaced each day), and the complimentary tea and coffee in the self-catering kitchen.
Breakfasts were amazing - both the Wensleydale (full English) and the continental.
All in all, the best youth hostel I have stayed in.

Another good youth hostel to stay in. First time here. Great to have a good size communal area with TV and a big self catering kitchen with 3 ovens, 2 microwaves, 2 kettles and plenty of pots and pans. The WiFi worked perfectly which helped to plan what to do. Cleaning was done daily although we had to leave the hostel on a rainy day for a couple of hours so they could clean round. We would have preferred to stay and just move round so they could clean. Toilet and shower facilities were excellent. I found the bed comfy too. A camping area at the back wheel campers could use the facilities. We had a cooked breakfast one morning which was perfectly good. The hostel is almost in the centre of Hawes. 2 mins walk. Book a table if you want to eat in a local pub. Most were full but the Indian restaurant nearby was excellent. We did plan to use the bike storage area but we could only get the key when staff were available so my son's bike went back in the car when he finished his ride. Thank you overall!

Brilliant base for cycling in the Dales. Facility has a drying room and secure lock-up for your bikes. Great full English breakfast (£8.50) to set you up for a tough days climbing and on the doorstep of the iconic Buttertubs pass climb. 2 minute walk into the lovely village of Hawes for a couple of well deserved beers. Great facility which is clean and excellent value for money with extremely friendly staff.

My Mum and I are walking the Pennine Way and found YHA in Hawes at exactly the right time. Steve helped us out with our booking on the phone and was amazingly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The hostel itself has a sweet communal area where you can get drinks and snacks (well we did on Friday evening), plus a kitchen where you can make tea/coffee.

The hostel room we stayed in was simple but impeccably clean, has everything you needed and best nights sleep we’ve had so far on our trip.

The service we received from Steve in particular was the best part of the stay - he was so genuinely kind, helpful and caring and really appreciated this especially when we were feeling exhausted. The other team we met including Alison and Dave were also really friendly. Thanks very much and we will definitely be back there again!!!
