We had a great stay at the Stone House Hotel. The interior is warm and sumptuous, with open fires, wood panelling, big leather sofas. Just what you want after a day in the dales cold weather months. In the summer I would imagine the outside area and lawns with stunning views will be amazing

We had a dog with us and stayed in one of the conservatory double rooms. Again very nice, confirmable facilities. The extra space of the conservatory is an excellent way into the room with wet or muddy clothing and is perfect for the dog.. Straight outside is a nice lawned garden area to let the dog out on a morning.

The staff are amongst the friendliest I have ever met in a hotel. So helpful, so knowledgeable about where to go and what to see and do in the area. The quality of service was very good here.

We ate each evening in the restaurant. The menu changes every day. It offers a superb selection of seasonal and local food. Quite clearly the chef is very good here. There was some excellent food served.

The breakfast was lovely, good quality foods, offering a wide range of choice to suit everyone. Good size portions to set you up for a good days walking.

Hawes is about 3/4 mile walk across a meadow with sheep, or you can follow the road. Lots of walks available locally straight out of the hotel to Hardraw Force or Askrigg Falls.. we also enjoyed Leyburn, Aysgarth and Middleham which are about 12 to 15 miles in the car .. this is a good Dales location to access other areas.

We had a great stay and will definitely come back again..

We decided to try this hotel for a few nights for my birthday as it was recommended by a neighbour. What a gem! The hotel staff were friendly from the moment we checked in, to leaving. Very clean, well organised staff, excellent rooms, superb food. It was a very cold few days outside but the hotel wasn't frightened of putting the heating on 24/7. We have stayed in some very cold hotels in the past but not at the Stone House. Our bed was too hard for me, but when I asked at reception about having a different mattress, they said they couldn't change the mattress but they could put a thick mattress topper on the bed. This worked wonders and was very comfortable thereafter. We took our little dog so stayed in a conservatory room (23), which was excellent, we could put the heater on in the conservatory and was lovely and warm in no time. So lovely to relax in and take in the country view as well. The food was superb with an excellent choice each night. Not the same menu every night as at some other hotels. Everything was cooked to perfection. Breakfast was very good too. Milk was kept in a fridge in the corridor for guests to use for an early morning cuppa, not the plastic cartons at this hotel. The only downside to our stay is that we wanted to stay an extra night, but the hotel was full.

You will receive a very warm welcome to this hotel as the staff are all exceptional. The hotel is obviously a favourite with many elderly guests who return frequently. We stayed in a conservatory room which was a little tired and needs an update, especially the bathroom, but it was comfortable and clean and the extra space was useful. The hotel dining room areas were lovely and the food was great, just what you need after a day walking. Breakfast was especially nice. Although this hotel is a little dated in appearance you get the impression that the loyal guests wouldnt change a thing....they love its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Just be aware most of the guests are elderly. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so pleasant, we would certainly return if in the area again.

We stayed four nights in a Superior Double which wasn't huge but that's to be expected in an old, listed building of this type. It had everything we needed and housekeeping replaced things each day via a basket due to Covid. The bed and pillows were quite hard but many people prefer that. The Covid precautions all seemed very sensible and were not too onerous.

All the staff were super helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. Breakfast menu was extensive and delicious; we also ate in the restaurant two evenings and the menu was varied and changed completely each day.
The hotel is in a beautiful location and it is a pleasant walk to Hawes across the fields and to Hadraw Falls along the road. We would recommend.

The interior, the decor and the welcome are really good. This is not an inexpensive option and in terms of value for money just fell short for us. We had a superior room and whilst the actual bedroom was fine and the bed comfy; the pillows were hard and lumpy and inhibited sleep - there were no spares or swaps in the room - we probably should have asked...
The bathroom was very tight and a little old fashioned - there was no heated towel rail for drying your towels and with Covid, no changes, which is very understandable. The storage area was useful.
We opted for the evening meal on our 1st night and whilst it was ok, was expensive for what it was and in comparison to other local options.
Breakfast was also alright, limited for vegetarians and the fruit juice tasted as though it was out of a carton to be honest, which for this price was not expected.
Service was good, staff were friendly, helpful and informative. The hotel interior and public rooms are lovely. It’s a bit of a trek to get in and out of Hawes on foot, but everyone clearly has a car in this location. Accessibility to lovely surroundings and places of great historical interest is very good.

We arrived at 20:00 hours, asked if we would like to sit in the lounge, so far so good 😊 drinks arrived. We were then asked if we would like to go to our table so we grabbed our drinks. Starters arrived, it then went downhill from here!!! plates cleared away main meals arrived, table next to us were trying to have a conversation as were we but it felt awkward as we were just the 2 meters apart and the atmosphere was very underwhelming and quiet. We were not once throughout our meal asked if everything was ok or asked if we would like any condiments with our meal, the couple next to us were asked all of the above. My husband sat from 20.30 till the end of the whole meal without being asked if he would like another drink so spent the rest of the meal drinking the table water. My dessert of fruit salad in syrup (came in nothing) was supposed to be served with a choice of cream or ice cream mine came with ice cream I didn’t get a choice. My husbands dessert, sticky toffee sponge, had been microwaved as it was very hard on the base. Although we had some discount for the meal after talking to one of the members of staff the money isn’t the problem, We will not get our 25th anniversary back and to receive this level of service after it being a highly recommended place to celebrate such a special night was a huge disappointment and has left us both upset. I hope the comments get actioned by the restaurant and pray that no one else has to experience this.

Hi many thanks for taking the time to review your meal with us. We value all feedback good and bad and we have read your comments with interest. We do pride ourselves on our friendly, attentive service and excellent food and hopefully TA readers will see your comments in context with our mainly positive, 5 star reviews. Whilst it is clear we fell below our usual high standards on this occasion and we apologise unreservedly - we had hoped that we had dealt with the issues prior to your departure. The kitchen team and front of house staff were made aware of the complaint immediately and lessons have been learnt. Even though a 50% discount was offered and accepted on payment of the bill, we are sorry you felt that this was not enough and you then took to Trip Advisor to continue your complaint. We do try to get things right most of the time but occasionally things do go wrong and we are sorry this happened on your 25th Wedding Anniversary.

The other reviews are very accurate - this is a fantastic hotel, with great rooms, excellent food, lovely staff and in a fantastic location.

We only stayed for one night (unfortunately!) with our dog.

Despite our late and rushed arrival we were still welcomed for our dinner reservation and the staff went over and above in their service. The food was really excellent and this goes for breakfast too - a real feast of excellent quality. Just a shame we didn’t have more time to enjoy the lounge area and an afternoon tea!

As we had a dog we had one of their standard double rooms on ground floor. The room was lovely, very clean and the bed extremely comfortable. For us, having our own entrance to our room direct from outside and not having to go through the main hotel with our dog (who is quite unsociable) was really helpful.

For those worried about Covid, their approach to this was excellent - all staff with masks, good social distancing and not too intrusive.

The location is wonderful and there are a range of great walks straight out of the hotel. Also Hawes, Aysgarth Falls and Wensleydale cheese are all very close by.

Would absolutely recommend this hotel and it’s restaurant and we’ll definitely be staying again.

No I'm not going to write a review praising this, the nicest country house hotel we've stayed in for many years. If I did I'd have to describe the location on a quiet country lane in beautiful Wensleydale just a 20 minute walk from the centre of Hawes. I'd need to mention the comfortable bedrooms and the small, but cosy, public rooms with sofas, armchairs and roaring open fires. And the tiny bar that has the apparent capacity of a Tardis. And I certainly won't talk about the newly refurbished restaurant with (unlike many hotels) a menu that changes daily. Above all I'd have to rave about the staff who go out of their way to make your stay an experience of friendly and efficient service mixed with a fair smattering of the type of interaction you'd get from being with your best friends. No, I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to say that, if you like country house hotels, it's "all right".

We spent a wonderful two nights here to celebrate my husband's 70th Birthday. This hotel is a firm favourite of ours, having stayed here before. It has stunning views over to Hawes (a delightful walk away from the hotel) and the surrounding hills of Wensleydale. We were welcomed so warmly and were spoiled and pampered our entire visit. Every single member of staff took time to chat to us, to share our plans for the stay and to suggest ideas of places to visit. We were in a lovely four-poster room overlooking the garden and we had supper one evening in front of a roaring fire. My husband enjoyed beautiful guinea fowl while I had succulent pork belly. There was so much choice on the breakfast menu that even if we had been able to stay longer we would not have been able to sample everything! We particularly enjoyed the porridge with blueberries, and the kippers with a poached egg. The spacious dining room has been recently refurbished and is especially beautiful. The ambiance in this hotel makes you feel you are a member of a house party and not just an ordinary guest at any old hotel! I am already looking forward to my next visit!

We loved everything about the Stone House Hotel. Perfect location with great walks from the door (including Hawdraw Force).

Everyone who works there was relaxed and friendly, while extremely helpful and attentive.

We had the suite (room 28) which was comfortable and spacious. The hotel has a homely, wood panelled room with a roaring fire - perfect for post walk drinks and a library full of interesting books and collectibles.

We stayed with a child and a dog both of whom were made to feel extremely welcome, including lovely personal touches, like giving my farm mad son a farm vehicles calendar that he is over the moon with! and making him a great burger one night, even though it wasn't on the menu.

The food is good - if we had one wish it would be for more interesting options for vegetarians - but we enjoyed it all and can't wait to stay again in the Summer.

No. Fresh milk is provided in a small fridge in a cupboard on the landing, an empty jug is provided for you in your room to fill alongside the tea, coffee etc which is in your room. A nice touch, better than long life milk pots but a little inconvenient and I would have liked a fridge in the room. I didn't see any personal items being kept in the landing fridge. I am unaware whether it would be possible to store anything in the hotel fridge.
