Travellers' Choice
Zena & Nick look forward to welcoming you to Thorney Mire Barn. We have three luxuriously appointed en-suite guest rooms, furnished to a high standard. Features of each room include a pocket sprung divan bed, a fully tiled bathroom with underfloor heating and a fridge stocked with fresh milk & cordials. Our guests enjoy the privacy of a separate entrance and bedrooms separated from the main house. We are in a secluded location in Widdale, just one mile from the historic market town of Hawes and surrounded by the beautiful Wensleydale countryside within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Outside there is ample off-road parking, south facing patio areas in our garden and about 4 acres of private woodland to explore where you may see red squirrels, roe deer and many different species of birds. There are footpaths that take you on wonderful country walks in all directions from our front door. Or you can explore further afield by cycling quiet country lanes. The woods are also home to our free-range chickens, and the garden has vegetable, fruit and herb beds, so you can enjoy our own fresh eggs, vegetables and fruits. Thorney Mire Barn is exclusively for adults. Unfortunately, we cannot accept dogs, with the exception of assistance dogs

My fiancé and I had a wonderful stay in the secluded woodland retreat surrounded by the friendly chickens! The Shepherds Hut had everything we needed and was very cosy and clean! The setting was spectacular and felt very private. We saw lots of red squirrels and a wide range of birds. Zena and Nick were really helpful and friendly and made our stay great. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future!

My wife and I booked Thorney Mire for a long weekend treat in the Dales. We arrived in the dark, but were warmly welcome by the host Nick and shown to our room. The Garden Room was spacious, tasteful, immaculately clean and very comfortable. There were some nice touches, such as the chocolates with a hand written note and fresh fruit, along with the standard tea and coffee. The Garden Room also has a private garden, though at this time of year too cold to take advantage of. The view from the garden was lovely and as the B&B has a private woodland, the autumnal colours in the bright morning light were glorious. We didn't see any of the elusive red squirrels though! Breakfast was delicious, home made, and with some thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have made a promise to return in the summer to enjoy the private garden, woods, and excellent hospitality.

Having stayed here in September 2018, as soon as we decided to have another holiday in the Dales we knew that we would wish to stay here again having been so impressed last time. We were not disappointed. This really is everything you would wish a B&B to be. We had pre booked an evening meal for our first night and enjoyed it so much that we requested one for our last night too. Zena and Nick are first class hosts. Excellent breakfast with some wonderful specials available. We look forward to our next stay here and exploring more of the Dales.

We were lucky enough to stay here 14 years ago. I am pleased to report it is still as good as we remembered it. Nick and Zena do an amazing job, the welcome tray of tea and cakes and chocolates on the room was a lovely touch. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and fitted to a high standard. The home cooked breakfast was delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough.
