Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The facilities of the hotel downstairs were great - big car park, nice staff, good bar and lovely food. However, the room we stayed in was pretty awful. It was nice and big but that is my only positive. It was VERY dated and grubby, walls were scuffed, the mirrors were grimy, the bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned. We were at the front of the hotel on the first floor and at 3am it felt like the people on the street were in there with us. The toilet took a few goes to flush each time and was noisy for ages as it refilled. And the shower was a dribble that was either freezing cold or boiling hot. We could also hear absolutely everything that the neighbours either side were saying.

Have Visited this hotel a few times. I will NOT be revisiting again. It just gets worse. On numerous occasions I have found some of the reception staff rude and unhelpful. The hotel is outdated and in need of refurbishment. The water is only hot if you use it at specific times of the day! If you want to shower around 4pm don't try you will only get cold water! Cables for the TV in the room are hanging loose, no bedside lights or desk lamps just ceiling light's shining right above you. If you phone to Reception for any reason you will be lucky to get answered, you will have to go to reception and speak to someone that's if you can find anyone! Don't even try to get a receipt on the morning you leave as reception does not open until 8 am. Overall a very dissapointing stay.

There's a glass covered well in the dining room! That gave us a fright. The carvery was fine, good portions of meat (I went for ham and turkey, the beef looked a bit well done), you can help yourself to vegetables, stuffing, gravy and potatoes. It's not expensive, and you can pile your plate high.

We stayed here after attending a party in the Yorkshire Suite. Staff were great, very friendly. Rooms were slightly dated (which didn’t bother us) but they were clean and had everything in that you needed. Breakfast the next morning was lovely! We would definitely stay here again.

We have just experienced a fantastic Sunday Luncheon in the Dining Room here at The Golden Lion Hotel. Incredibly welcoming from all the staff and all very efficient, especially Michelle!!!! Lovely Menu where Starters, Desserts, Coffee and drinks 🍷 are served at the table. The fabulous Main Course is freshly carved and served just by the side of the Restaurant. We ALL just LOVED everything.

Stayed four nights bed breakfast and dinner with a group. We appreciated the free parking and wifi. Reasonable choice of food plentiful and tasty. The service was brilliant. Zoe remembered my request for Hot Choclate which always arrived as soon as I sat down. Our room was up 30 stairs - no lft- but luggage was carried and on leaving right through to our car. Room was ok if a bit small. You had to scramble to the centre of the bed or there was a danger of rolling out. Another time we would opt for two single beds. Saturday evening was two singers with guitars. They were brilliant and the room was packed and appreiative.

We’ve just got back from a three day stay at the hotel. Myself and my four cycling friends enjoyed the stay immensely. It’s an excellent hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy. All the staff are so friendly and easy going and we had a good laugh with them in the bar and restaurant. Food was excellent with a good choice and very reasonable prices. The bar has a more of a pub feel to it so we’d no need to venture out for meals or drinks as there is a good choice of beers as well. They allowed us to store our bike overnight locked securely in one of the conference rooms. I can see us definitively returning again next year.

the hotel is good the bedrooms are lovely however no facilities or supplies to make a drink in your room so take your own milk tea. coffee etc The shower was over the bath so i could not use it as there are no hand rails or safety handles other than that it was fine. We did not have breakfast but had evening meals on both of our two night stay and can highly recommend the food it was of good quality and plentiful. the barman was very good, polite, helpful and pleasant to chat to i will certainly visit here again because of its position on the high street central to all the amenities. All the staff we dealt with were very helpful and polite.
