Had an unplanned visit here after a breakdown. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Public areas very tastefully decorated, rooms could do with a lick of paint. TV didn't have a signal but no real issue. Brand new mattresses and pillows but sadly no protectors on either. Window frame was broken so the blind wouldn't stay down. Ceiling in bathroom covered in mildew. It was quiz night, we were very warmly welcomed. Food of a very high standard and reasonably priced. Breakfast was delicious too. Super outdoor area. Would definitely recommend this place if needing a stop from the A1 or visiting family at Catterick. Thank you!

On the Coast to Coast route so a very convenient location. Spacious bar and dining areas both inside and out. The food was very good, We had duck and sea bass - service efficient. The room was extremely basic. I had no bedside table, there were no chairs in the room. The room was at the front of the building so traffic noise (plus the noise of the quiz downstairs in the bar) made for a disturbed evening. However, the noise died down later and we slept reasonably well. This establishment didn’t look or feel very clean. OK for exhausted hikers for one night.

We stayed here for a night on our way North.

The room was functional but a little shabby. It was otherwise as described.

The bar is large and there is a separate restaurant if you would rather not eat in the bar. The night we stayed there seemed to be a lot of locals eating.

Our dinner, taken in the restaurant, was good and the breakfast (included in the price) the next morning was excellent.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a room at the front and were not disturbed by traffic noise. There is an off road car park at the back of the pub and a garden where, in better weather, we would have been able to consume our drinks.

Stayed at the farmers arms july 2nd for 2 nights a treat for my husbands 70th birthday.
The room quite large but when you opened the door there were 2 steps down into the room but no warning notice on the door so consequently l fell into the room onto the wardrobe. Room very basic pillows flat as pancakes husband weng down to ask for a couple more pillows to be told they had no spare so very restless night as l cant sleep flat due to health issues, we went out and brought 2 pillows the following morning. Shower very poor plus again steps to get in and out with no bath mat to step on dangerous. The noise from the road was horrendous abd ubabld to clise the windiw. Breakfast is pre order l enjoy a continental breakfast but a few boxes of cereal abd an empty jug of orange juice doesn't make a continental breakfast. Hubby had full English which was ok. Sunday morning went down to breakfast saucers on table no cups no sideplate for toast no jams 1 knife 1 fork so had to use same knife if you wanted ham on tiast table very sticky. On the goid sude the young staff on duty were lovely and very helpful and the evening meal Saturday evening was nice. To sum up not impressed at all abd would not recommend

We had a family meal here 7 of us and although the staff were helpful i'm afraid the food was very tasteless & whatever they fry stuff in was very sickly. Such a shame after a great make over but unless they up there game we wont be back. Sorry

What can I say. 1st time in a pub since lockdown began and it couldn't have been better!! The staff were so welcoming, it felt very warming and safe and exactly the pub atmosphere you could wish for. The food was amazing too. Highly recommend the steak, ale and mushroom pie or the chicken parmo. We will return for sure

Chose the Farmers Arms for convenience - just off the A1, midway point of our journey and ideal, we thought, to stop over for a pub dinner and good night's rest. The on-line photos belie the actual appearance and fabric. There are only a few bedrooms above the pub, accessed via a staircase at the rear. The rooms are of reasonable size but very basic and would benefit from updating. The road outside is busy and noisy and the windows, even when closed, do nothing to abate the sounds of passing traffic. We arrived just before 9pm and were told the kitchen had closed so no dinner threatened but resolved by a 20 minute trip into Richmond (so much for the convenience). Staff very welcoming and friendly (best thing about stay). Breakfast has to be ordered night before, including time you want it. Full English was passable but not otherwise memorable - lacked staff resource and was therefore a bit shambolic but we mostly had to help ourselves (including finding missing cutlery and glasses).......but we survived. £70 per night per room a bit steep, given quality and delivery, so I would not recommend.

So, another quality meal at the Farmers Arms. We often come for Sunday lunch and are never disappointed 👍
The staff are some of the friendliest I've had. Sharon, Millie, Grace and Beth ensured we all had what we needed and were courteous through out the day. We didnt get to meet the chefs but the standard of food is extremely high for the low cost of the meal. I cannot recommend this place enough and will certainly come again.

It was our second visit as we had called in on the way upto nearHexham and been impressed a week ago. Now on the way home, it was just as good as we had remembered. There are some interesting dishes on the menu but also some classics like the fish and chips I had. The portion sizes are huge, be warned. My fish was cooked to perfection in a light tasty batter - it had been skinned, unlike the fish I received recently in a local establishment. The chips were proper chips - hand cut, crisp outside and squidgy middle.

We had eaten in a supposedly very upmarket establishment the day before. That had made booking with a small dog a necessity. It had been pleasant enough but the food had been only ok. The chips there had been advertised as being home cooked. They might have been cooked there but they were certainly not home prepared. They prided themselves on Michelin mentions and the prices reflected that. We wouldn’t bother to go back to the other one but we would certainly go to this again. Small things matter - crisp skin on the fish in my husband’s meal, presentation rarely found in a pub. And someone behind the bar who went out of his way to help a disabled chap who was leaving.

The Farmer’s Arms deserves recognition. This place has excellent service, wonderful food with real attention to detail and you couldn’t wish for a more down to earth attitude. Prices reflect the quality of the ingredients and the skills of the chef(s).

This was our first visit to The Farmer's Arms and it won't be our last. The pub is very well decorated, the staff are very pleasant and the food was excellent. There was a lovely selection of vegetables (all cooked to perfection), a huge Yorkshire pudding and I've never had so much meat put on my plate at a carvery. The price was very reasonable as well (£8.95), especially for a Sunday.
