Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really enjoyed our visit to the dirty bottles, great atmosphere in this very old pub, read about the story of the dirty bottles in the window and the mysterious death of the last man who touched them. Great staff on hand to give advice on food. The food was excellent with a great selection of real ales call in give it a go. Book a table to avoid disappointment

Lovely old pub with really nice, comfy rooms, central location, very close to lots of castles with plenty to do. Breakfast was great but not very impressed with the evening meal, meat was very dry and overcooked. Staff ok but not great sunday morning when we tried to hand passes back for refunds, reluctant to open the door and just laughed at us through the window when we were knocking. Would go back due to rooms and location.

Came across this on a wet evening and found it to be warm and friendly. Great food and fantastic prices. Portion sizes were plenty and lovely atmosphere within the setting. Between the 4 of us we had 2 roast meats and 2 smokehouse off the menu and no one was left disappointed.

Visited twice, once for drinks & once for food. Staff were lovely throughout both visits -- despite being busy all were smiling & polite. Food was great, reasonably sized portions & well made. The inside of the restaurant & the bathrooms are decorated very nicely, there's a very cozy atmosphere. 10/10 experience - would 100% recommend!

It was nice to find a dog friendly place to eat for lunch in the town. We were surprised at the portion sizes, we were actually going for lighter bites but the portions were so big! Lovely food & great service and we thought the prices were fair too. The history of the building was very interesting!

The whole team at the Dirty Bottles helped to make our daughter's 21st birthday celebration perfect. The service we received couldn’t have been better. I arrived to find the table all set up and as the family gradually arrived, we were offered drinks in a really friendly and relaxed way. At no time during our meal did we feel rushed or pressured. The team waited until everyone had arrived and got settled before bringing out all the correct pre-ordered starters. Then with just the perfect timing, brought out our main courses, checking with us regularly whether we wanted more drinks. We had puddings and coffees again in a lovely, relaxed way and at no time felt rushed. I am really grateful for such fantastic service and everyone really enjoyed their food. The cocktails were excellent as well. Highly recommended!

We stayed at Hallow and Crux and had breakfast at the Dirty Bottles which was lovely. Check in was easy, staff friendly and we had drinks at the bar which were lovely. Definitely recommend and have told everyone how nice it was. It was central to the town and we loved it.

During our break we visited here twice and both times were great! Great food and drinks. For our second trip we pre-booked the seafood we platter which was huge for the price we paid would highly recommend. If we ever come back we would definitely visit here again.

Nice family room where we stayed 3 people one night - but would have love 2-3 nights. Super location with walking distance to everything - and Alnwick castle is amazing! Really enjoyed the atmosphere at dinner and lovely breakfast. Good value for money.
