We took a last minute trip for a surprise getaway for me and my wife. We took a bit of a chance on The Cookie Jar and the most expensive room. The Chapel. Absolutely blown away. I've stayed all around the world in some of the best hotels but this could very well be the best yet. Its running our volcano view hot tub room in Santorini close. We didn't want to leave the room. They almost had to get us legally evicted it was so good. Comfortable and beautiful furnishings. Exceptional design that utilises the history of the building. Subtle and indulgent. The shower next to the free standing bath. Waking up to the beautiful stained glass windows. Finally dragging ourselves away to enjoy the incredible breakfast then finding out when we left the hotel that it was yards away from Alnwick Castle (we had arrived in pitch black night). I feel like words aren't doing this place justice. Bravo to the owners and the amazing team and hotel they've you have put together. An absolute jem of a find and not a volcano in sight.

Wowsy, wowsy - what can I say - thank you, thank you. I am so pleased to read your outstanding review following your stay with us - I am also delighted that you took your chance to visit us. The Chapel is indeed, very special and it is lovely to read how much you both appreciated the detail. Also thank you for mentioning the team - I am blessed with staff who really do care and enjoy looking after our guests. Loving "absolute gem" - please do come back and stay with us again. It is a lovely relaxed hotel with big spacious rooms. Great location near the centre of town but is also nice and quiet. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Very close to the Castle and other places you'd want to visit.

Beautiful boutique hotel next to the Castle. Room are spacious and comfortable spotlessly clean with coffee and tea provided. A lovely touch is the home made jar of cookies. I loved the low level bathroom night light. Luxury toiletries are provided. I also loved the décor of the hotel The staff are helpful and friendly. I cannot comment on the food as we don't eat breakfast so didn't have it. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend. Like someone else said just be careful parking on the cobbles as you can catch your front bumper as my husband did!!!!

The Cookie Jar is a lovely boutique hotel. Our room was spacious, very clean and with a large, comfortable bed. The decor is very nice, with some clever touches, and I liked the low-level light in the bathroom. There were a couple of niggles with the room: there was a blocked-up door to the next room, and I found that I could hear the "neighbours" all too clearly, especially when they were watching what seemed to be a really funny television programme! This made me a little paranoid as to how much noise we might be making. Also, we found it difficult to get the temperature in the room right - we were very hot the first night, despite opening windows, so we adjusted the radiators, but it was still warm the second night; maybe we would have got it right on the third! Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment for me. There was a good selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurts and juices, and a number of options for a main course, but my English breakfast was lacking the first day - overly herby sausage, disappointing (and very thinly sliced) black pudding, thin rasher of bacon, messy poached egg - and the next day my smoked salmon was dry and hard, as if it had been left in the open overnight (it might be said that I should have asked for it to be replaced, but I don't like to start my day with complaints, and I have the same reluctance to "make a fuss" as I do to complaining about 12.5% service being added to restaurant bills!). We had planned to eat in the hotel Bistro on our second evening, but the quality of the breakfast put me off, which was a shame. The hotel is in a very good location, on a generally quiet street (although we were wakened on our second morning before 6.30 by a street-cleaning machine!) but within easy walking distance to most of Alnwick's attractions. The public areas of the hotel are clean, bright, quirky and comfortable, and overall it has a very comfortable and welcoming ambience, and staff are friendly and helpful. I'd like to think that the things I didn't like were down to bad luck, and maybe we'll try the Cookie Jar again.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review - a real mixture! The room which you stayed in did originally interconnect to the room next door - however the reason we no longer have them as interconnecting was a noise issue - since we made this change, I can honestly say we have had no negative comments re noise. I am sorry that you could not get your room to an ambient temperature - all guests are very different on this front - we do provide fans in all guest bedrooms - I am not sure why the temperature did not reduce when you turned the radiators down .......this should have happened. Breakfast - again, I apologise that you did not enjoy your breakfast on either morning - I understand that you maybe did not want to make a fuss however we would like to have had the chance to make things better. Had we cooked you a second breakfast - hopefully you would then have had the confidence to dine with us. The egg issue is an interesting one - we get our eggs, obviously free range from a local supplier less than 10 miles from the hotel - I had a conversation with him only this morning re the quality of the eggs - I did not know that firstly, one has to worm their hens and secondly - after they have been wormed - it then can affect the quality of the eggs - hence why you may have had a messy egg - again, I am sorry. I am pleased you found the Hotel to be comfortable and the staff friendly and welcoming - and that you would consider a return visit. Regards Debbie

We have found a great hotel in a lovely town. Warm welcoming staff, beautiful big room which was spotlessly clean. Super nights sleep in a comfy bed. Furnishing is of a high quality and the dinner and breakfast was excellent. Our stay was faultless! We will be back and will highly recommend to others.

We stayed here on the last night of our "Scottish" holiday on the way home and it was the best night of the whole trip. We had a large comfortable room with a large bathroom in a fascinating old building with really friendly staff. We had a delicious meal and an excellent breakfast and greatly wished we could have stayed longer. We would love to go back and would highly recommend this hotel and this lovely town.

A great little boutique hotel superbly located near the Castle in Alnwick. Impeccably clean with lovely friendly service, the rooms are well designed and equipped (we stayed in the luxury class room Dunstanburgh) and there are other equally nice rooms of different sizes. Excellent breakfast every morning and a good quality evening meal offering. Staff are lovely (thanks Izzy and all the team in the restaurant and housekeeping). Parking is generally OK on the road but beware if you have a low spoiler at the front!. Overall highly recommended!

A beautiful small hotel, decor and design is top drawer. Wonderful staff, everything done with care and attention. The hotel boasts a super small lounge area for pre and post meal drinks, and a sophisticated dining room. Menu is a clever mix of seasonal fare, and accompanied by a well thought out wine list

From the moment we arrived at The Cookie Jar we were made to feel so welcome. It’s not very often that you feel that you’re almost staying with friends. All of the staff were so helpful, suggesting places to visit along the coast and recommending places to eat. Our dog Marley was also spoilt as well. The breakfast was superb as was the evening meals we had. Thanks very much to Debbie and all the team who made our stay so wonderful. We look forward to coming back soon!!
