Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We decided as a family to take morning coffee and lunch at the Lord Crewe to celebrate my sister in laws birthday, we walked into the bar it was not too full, only a handful of tables were occupied one reserved but of the unoccupied tables none were large enough to sit our party of seven, we found a table but there were only six seats we politely asked if there was another seat we were told bluntly ‘that’s all we have and were told if we couldn’t fit into that area we could always go elsewhere’…. so we did, I’m actually not sure how this place operates with customer service like we encountered this morning, Im not sure they will improve as I don’t see any replies to any of the reviews either, undoubtably they are taking its customers for granted we for sure won’t return either for food, or for hotel occupancy in the future.

Sadly we could only get a drink. I found the manner and tone of the front lady , off. Unhelpful and a tad abrupt. We hadn’t booked, si went back next day for lunch, on the understanding they served up to 5 pm. Again was met by same person , who again was off. Said you have to book in bamburgh ! I said thought we could come for a light bite - fish soup and a sarnie - no she had 100 covers no way could she fit us in. I mentioned in the height of summer we just sat outside ( no booking) and that would be ok - but it wasn’t - she said you always have to book, but we didn’t then when it was v busy. Would have been happy to sit out, lovely day. We went to the castle inn and enjoyed a fish soup there outside - Very accommodating even tho they were v busy !

Amazing place to stay. Lovely big room. Comfortable super king bed. Bathroom was sparkling clean and fresh. Service was excellent and staff really helpful and caring. The breakfast was delicious; perfectly cooked poached eggs on my eggs Benedict. Sunday lunch looked amazing with enormous Yorkshire puds, but sadly we hadn’t booked. We will definitely be back.

We dined at The Lord Crewe after reading a very upbeat article in The Telegraph. I cannot say anything about the accommodation as we only dined there one evening. Our experience lacked any smiles or welcome from either of the two ladies who seemed to be in charge in the dining room. The food was OK, but not exceptional but a welcoming attitude would have been less of a disappointment.

Visited during our weeks stay in Bamburgh. The Lord Crewe appeared busy on arrival however promptly seated despite arriving slightly early. Attentive staff however sometimes a little 'too attentive' at times which wasn't a relaxing experience. Good choice of menu, higher prices than other pub/restaurants. Pricier drinks than expected. My partner had chicken liver parfait - this was excellent. Mains - my partner had one of the specials 'Tuna Steak' this was on a bed of cold potatoes and salad. Tuna steak very highly seasoned with salt which later caused an upset stomach. I had the ribeye steak which very tender and cooked to my liking however also very heavily seasoned with salt and pepper which drowned the actual taste of the steak. Peppercorn sauce was very runny but good taste. For dessert we shared a Creme Brulee which was the highlight of the meal, lovely and smooth with a warm shortbread biscuit on the side. Overall we were slightly disappointed by our meal especially with prices being on the higher end.

Booked a table in restaurant for family meal at 7:15 on Thursday 24th August arrived early approximately 6:45 and ordered drinks at the bar we were told our table was still occupied which was not a problem we were happy to have a pre dinner drink in the Beer Garden. We then enquired about our table at 7:15 as was getting chilly in the beer garden only to be told that the table was not ready this was communicated via the bar staff who were being given instructions from person I assumed to be the manager who was in the bar but at no point acknowledge our presence and made no eye contact with us. We then bought further drinks and some of the party found seats in the bar area others remained standing. We waited a further 45 minutes during which time no member of staff acknowledge the fact that we were still waiting or came to give us an update on approximate time the table would be available what was concerning was that when we booked we were told that we would need to vacate the table by 9:15. By 8 0 clock with no update or explanation as to why we were still waiting my son and I went into the restaurant to the welcome desk to see what was happening the young man at the desk told us that they were at this point 8.10 getting the table prepared again the manager walked by no eye contact or apology for our delay. At this point we made decision to leave and eat elsewhere very disappointed and a family night although not ruined as we managed to get a meal elsewhere very frustrating and will never book again.

Lovely little find in Bamburgh. We had the fishcakes and the lobster and then shared a dark chocolate tart for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious and tasted really fresh. The staff were attentive and friendly. 10/10 would recommend a visit if you're in the area.

We travelled down from Scotland on Friday to have lunch with family. We were a wee bit late due to traffic but this was no problem whatsoever for the staff when we arrived. Food and drink spot on. All who served us were engaging, informative and charming. We will be back. We also noticed - which was nice to see in the current climate - that all staff from kitchen to table to bar seemed to be very happy in each others company ! A lovely day out in Bamburgh.

We have been coming to the Lord Crewe for many years, but it has been updated and is under new ownership since our last visit. I have no real complaints about our room (the Bamburgh) though it is above the bar, and not at all sound-proof, but I have plenty to say about the restaurant and manager. As our 7pm online dinner reservation had not made it through the system, we were told we could have a table at 7:45, which turned into a table at 8:00. The table was right beside the kitchen doors, which were swung wide open & closed every few seconds. After being ignored for a further 10 mins, we asked for menus and still we were told to wait. We eventually ordered 2 starters each - soup followed by a soufflé - instead of which we got one soup and one soufflé. Nearly an hour later we got the second soup and a soufflé which was undercooked and inedible. The manager refused to accept responsibility or apologise for the order mix-up, or for the delay, or for the undercooked souffle - having earlier refused to accept any responsibility for the mix up over our original dinner reservation, implying that it was our fault, even though he had a copy of it in his computer. Needless to say, we have cancelled our dinner reservation for tomorrow evening. The service from the manager was appalling - only the wine waiter seemed efficient and polite. This man has put us off ever staying here again.
