Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We’ve been planning on visiting Bamburgh for ages and had spotted The Lord Crewe as I have also been planning on visiting the original Lord Crewe in Blanchland. We had high hopes but the reality upon arrival was disappointing. The pub was very busy and the staff were rushed and there was a mixed lack lustre / slightly prickly reception. Where was the main manager? Is there one? We were told that the hotel is unmanned at night which was slightly disconcerting. There’s no parking, so as the village was incredibly busy we paid £8 to park in the big car park underneath the castle. It’s clearly been recently renovated and the downstairs areas feel soulless and characterless. You literally could be anywhere once inside. We stayed for one night and stayed in Armstrong. The room itself was nice and comfortable with all amenities however be warned! The room is at the back of the hotel directly above the kitchen extractor fans which didn’t turn off until around 10pm and went on again around 730am. They are very noisy. In addition, there is an emergency light above the door with a bright green light on it that literally lit up the whole room, we had to try and improvise a cover of a towel and a dressing gown sash to dim the light from green daylight to vague darkness. Before our evening meal we waited by the bar to have a drink - we gave up in the end as there were no staff and so went to our table instead. The food was nice, but nothing spectacular and the dining room was unexceptional. Overall it seems the hotel is relying on its location being so close to the castle and is also hanging on to the coat tails of the sister hotel in Blanchland.

Myself and my husband ate at The Lord Crewe last night. After being left standing at the bar for ages we were seated in the restaurant. We ordered our food and after a very lengthy wait it finally arrived. I ordered the tasteless goan curry and my husband ordered mussels which he said were good. At the end of the meal we sat and we sat with our plates still in front of us but we were just ignored. We finally gave up and went and paid at the bar. The service was terrible and it was far from busy. It was also very pricey for what was pub grub.

Have stayed here 3 times and it’s very comfortable. Went tonight and , as always the staff and food are very good but the ambience is destroyed by the inappropriate music! The restaurant could be transformed with more appropriate music both at breakfast and evening time. I do hope the management review the music choice!

My partner & I spent most of the day in this fabulous hotel, inbetween braving the crazy wet windy weather walking our dog on the beautiful Bamburgh beach. Such a warm & welcoming place to relax with a coffee. The menu is extensive for lunch & dinner! Which is why we chose to have both here! Dogs are welcome in the restaurant as well which is a complete bonus! The decor is stylish, cosy, warm & welcoming & the staff were incredibly friendly & welcoming as well! It really was the perfect place to relax & eat. The food was delicious! A really interesting menu with many choices. Will definitely be recommending to all friends & family to visit.

Staff were very friendly and attentive. Had lunch with my dog, done the three course set menu for £27.95. Food was excellent, the muscles were to die for and would have had another bowl of them if had the chance! Also enjoyed fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding.

Absolutely lovely stay at this gorgeous boutique style hotel. The bedroom was immaculate and very comfortable with an incredible view of the castle and nice touches on arrival. We also ate in the restaurant- food and service were outstanding.

We decided as a family to take morning coffee and lunch at the Lord Crewe to celebrate my sister in laws birthday, we walked into the bar it was not too full, only a handful of tables were occupied one reserved but of the unoccupied tables none were large enough to sit our party of seven, we found a table but there were only six seats we politely asked if there was another seat we were told bluntly ‘that’s all we have and were told if we couldn’t fit into that area we could always go elsewhere’…. so we did, I’m actually not sure how this place operates with customer service like we encountered this morning, Im not sure they will improve as I don’t see any replies to any of the reviews either, undoubtably they are taking its customers for granted we for sure won’t return either for food, or for hotel occupancy in the future.

Sadly we could only get a drink. I found the manner and tone of the front lady , off. Unhelpful and a tad abrupt. We hadn’t booked, si went back next day for lunch, on the understanding they served up to 5 pm. Again was met by same person , who again was off. Said you have to book in bamburgh ! I said thought we could come for a light bite - fish soup and a sarnie - no she had 100 covers no way could she fit us in. I mentioned in the height of summer we just sat outside ( no booking) and that would be ok - but it wasn’t - she said you always have to book, but we didn’t then when it was v busy. Would have been happy to sit out, lovely day. We went to the castle inn and enjoyed a fish soup there outside - Very accommodating even tho they were v busy !

Amazing place to stay. Lovely big room. Comfortable super king bed. Bathroom was sparkling clean and fresh. Service was excellent and staff really helpful and caring. The breakfast was delicious; perfectly cooked poached eggs on my eggs Benedict. Sunday lunch looked amazing with enormous Yorkshire puds, but sadly we hadn’t booked. We will definitely be back.

We dined at The Lord Crewe after reading a very upbeat article in The Telegraph. I cannot say anything about the accommodation as we only dined there one evening. Our experience lacked any smiles or welcome from either of the two ladies who seemed to be in charge in the dining room. The food was OK, but not exceptional but a welcoming attitude would have been less of a disappointment.
