For years we've been using Sykes Cottages and visiting all corners of Britain. On the chance recommendation of the bloke who does a neighbour's garden we booked Lapwing Cottage on Ross Farm between Bamburgh and Berwick. It was fantastic , the cottage had everything required for my wife and I plus (for a couple of days) my daughter ,her husband and two of our grandchildren . The lawn practically surrounds the property so we could follow the sun throughout the day. Our 3 year old could run around to her heart's content whilst we chilled out after doing all the touristy stuff. There is also a kids area with climbing frame ,sandpit and swings for the little uns. Ideally positioned to visit all places of interest like Bamburgh castle and Holy Island and less than half an hour to Alnwick , Berwick , Seahouses etc. Ross beach is beautiful if you've the ability to walk just under a mile on varying terrain . We walked down one morning and had the beach to ourselves barring Rachel the volunteer for the bird sanctuary. Can I add that David the guy who looks after the area is a top man , really friendly and helpful and I must apologise to him for not putting the bins out on the correct day . I'll do better next year which we'll definitely be booking, as soon as work lets me know what I'm doing . Highly recommended.

We stayed in Shepard’s cottage. Excellent accommodation. Large, clean, well equipped, comfy. Gated front garden and back. Great for our dog and toddler. Lovely setting. We would recommend and will definitely be returning! We were great with a lovely bottle of red too, thank you.

Great week stay here. Shepards cottage was very spacious. Bedrooms were all big. Living space was huge with high vaulted ceilings. Kitchen well equipped. My dog lived it, cottage is just so big. Front and back garden enclosed. Such pretty grounds. Would highly recommend.

This place is amazing and unique. Every home comfort included including dish washer, washing machine, excellent wifi service. Secure, offroad parking on location with access via electric gates. Isolated enough to have peace and quiet. Close to Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses and the Northumberlad coast.

This tower is amazing - fully deserves its 5 stars. All mod cons, the layout intelligently thought out.thought ,and my wife and I, both in our late 70's had no difficulties with all those steps at all The surrounding coast and and landscapes - breathtaking. Our only disappointment? The grey squirrels have taken over the Washington area. When we were last in this area 15 years ago, we saw many red squirrels - this time - none!

This was our fourth visit to the cottages and they are in a lovely location, the wildlife and walking trails are wonderful, we’ve seen nesting birds feeding their young when visiting in June and July and loads of seals in September. There’s nowhere quite like it for beaches, castles and big skies and the night skies are amazing too. The cottages are clean and very well equipped with lovely gardens and close to Belford where there is a co op and chip shop. The Swan at Warenford serves wonderful food, as does the Joiners Arms at High Newton by the Sea and the Ship at Low Newton by the Sea. Lindsfarne (Holy Island) is a must see, and numerous other castles in the area are well worth a visit.

Our fourth visit, like many who have discovered these wonderful properties we keep coming back. Exceptional location , close to the most beautiful places to visit on the wonderful Northumbrian coast, whilst enjoying a tranquil rural setting. With the incredibly beautiful Ross sands literally on the doorstep and the added advantages of access to the stargazing observatory and private bird hide this place has a lot to offer. The maintenance of these properties is superb, with spotlessly clean interiors, top quality appliances and an exceptional level of comfort. Everything you need for high quality self catering is here. Every detail has been well thought out and the experienced team at Ross and Outchester deal with any issues promptly and professionally with a smile. The beautiful grounds are expertly maintained by David, who is a pleasure to deal with. This time we enjoyed using the new stargazing hut at Ross. David showed us how to open the roof and use the telescope and we chose a clear night to get some views of planets as our first attempt at astronomy. We love the wildlife at Ross, from the hares that run around the fields full of wild flowers, to the wonderful sparrows thriving outside our window. The bird hide is a special treat for us, with exclusive views over a little corner of Budle Bay. Fresh oysters are available from the farm as Lindisfarne Oysters are harvested here. We hope to keep returning to this wonderful place, as it has become a favourite location for us. Highly recommend for a relaxing holiday in this beautiful area

We have just returned from a fabulous week at The Ducket. We were so impressed with it. The refurbishment of this listed building has been well thought out. It is very clean, cosy and has everything you could possibly want - even binoculars and a telescope are available. It is quite remote and the views from the top floors are amazing. There are some great walks in the area and Budle Bay is about 1 mile away - great for watching the birds on the mud flats. We also saw Roe Deer each evening in the adjoining fields. We would love to stay here again next time we come to Northumberland.

Great location, 20 minutes walk from Ross Back Sands Beach. The beach is beautiful and deserted. Great for bodyboarding, surfing and kiteboarding. Cottage very comfortable. All home comforts provided. Lovely spacious enclosed garden for children and puppy! 15 minutes drive to Bamburgh with castle, pubs and cafes. Dave (caretaker) very friendly and offers stargazing telescope and family canoe free of charge. We didn’t use due to storm Francis and very wet weather for the majority of the week. Despite this, we were very comfortable and had a lovely holiday. Recommend the White Swat at Warenford for great pub food.

We stayed at Ross Cottages in August 2020. Our cottage (Skylark) was clean, very spacious and well appointed with plenty of cutlery, crockery and a good selection of self catering equipment (including a separate freezer). The cottage and garden were beautifully maintained and very peaceful. Location was perfect for Ross Back Sands Beach, a new discovery after very many years holidaying in Northumberland. The walk was an easy 15/20 mins for adults and older children. Communication was excellent, and an item left behind was quickly returned to us. We’d highly recommend, either as a base to explore Northumberland or for easy access to a beautiful and largely empty beach.
