Lovely and quirky. Large rooms with all the home comforts. Breakfast served a five minute walk away in the owner’s deli, opened early for guests only. Great food. Accommodation ( when you find it!...down an alleyway) situated close by to the harbour which has ample 24 hour free parking. Superb micro pub opposite. Would definitely stop here again.
Captains Quarters are in a lovely part of Berwick with independent shops and the famous walls and quayside on the doorstep. Elizabeth, the host, gave us a choice oflovely rooms - and we found our room to be wonderfully spacious, uniquely decorated and very comfortable - great shower and access to fridge, teas and coffees and a microwave (particularly useful as all the good restaurants were fully booked - worth booking in advance if you can). We had breakfasts at Elizabeth's Deli, just up the hill, which were fabulous (fresh cooked Northumberland full breakfast or freshly baked continental, with freshly squeezed orange juice and cappocinos - highly recommended). The host, Elizabeth, is busy (rises early to bake for the Deli) but was available on her mobile and responded really quickly to any queries and made sure we felt at home. We have really enjoyed our stay here in such a beautiful house - thank you!…
Room seemed lovely - thoughtful touches, private bathroom. Host rang day before to insist that we checked in before 7pm as she "was going out" - seemed a little odd but we put it down to quirks of a small B and B. When changing before bed, we found we had no towels, and milk in fridge was out of date. Host wasn't contactable via doorbell or ringing the landline number supplied in booking. We raised this the following morning and were met with a tirade of abuse via text and phone call; accusations of lying, being money grabbing etc. Claims mobile number was written on a door (not seen by us). A shame; these were minor things but being shouted at on phone really ruined memories of the place!
We enjoyed a great overnight stay in this Guest House in the heart of Berwick, while cycing the Coast and Castles cycle route. Our bikes were securely stored inside overnight. The room was huge and very comfortable. We enjoyed hot showers in the clean, modern bathroom. We didn't meet the owner but were warmly greeted by a member of the staff from her town centre cafe, where we enjoyed a good breakfast the following morning before continuing on our journey.
We stayed here on Friday night after having to cancel our March booking through Covid. The owner had told us that we could use our booking anytime over the next two years so we took her up on it as soon as we were allowed to travel. This is our fourth or fifth time here and it is just gorgeous. The rooms are huge and luxurious, full of quirky little things that are delightful and make you feel at home. Lizzie was tremendously welcoming, and it was great to feel almost normal again. We will definitely be back this year!
