Having walked past The Walls guesthouse on the Edwardian walls in Berwick many times over the years, this was our first stay at the beautiful historic home of Stephen and Louise. It is unsurprising that the guest house receives many outstanding reviews and is the recipient of many awards, most recently the VisitEngland ROSE award 2023 while we were in the middle of our 7 night stay. The VisitEngland website states: “The ROSE Awards recognise the accommodation providers across England who give visitors the best customer experience. They celebrate the establishments, irrespective of their star rating, style or type of accommodation, where the owners, management and employees provide world-class service to their visitors.” The award is made to just 100 providers, nationally, each year. It is difficult to better or amplify the tag “world class” but our experience was simply “out of this world”. Stephen and Louise really did go above and beyond to ensure that our quality time was enjoyable in every respect. The quality and comfort of the accommodation, coupled with a beautiful cooked to order breakfast each morning, surpassed anything we have experienced in the past. This even included the owners doing a twenty mile round trip to source the freshest fish from Eyemouth in Scotland to cook specially for our breakfast. Beyond that, Stephen and Louise could not do enough to ensure that our stay was relaxed and very comfortable. As a couple, they work tirelessly together to ensure that their guests are looked after, whether they are there for one night or several. There are three guest bedrooms and the unique layout of the house ensures total privacy as well as a very well resourced guest lounge and discrete dining arrangement. The view from the bedrooms across the Tweed, with the three royal bridges, stretching above the tidal river and its scores of resident mute swans, is one of the finest in the town. All of the accommodation’s amenities, from quality toiletries and bedding to comfortable furnishings, complimentary refreshments and a well stocked honesty bar are an endorsement of the huge attention to detail afforded by the owners. You could not ask for more. The care levied on guests was respectful and professional at all times. Stephen and Louise were anxious that visitors should enjoy their home, the town and the region’s many attractions to the full. We have immediately booked another week long stay next year, believing that one could not find any accommodation in Berwick upon Tweed that could come close to The Walls. It is in a league of its own. We have always loved Northumberland (with some 30 years of holidays in the county) and we have a particular affection for Berwick. We now regard The Walls as the place that we want to be our home whilst visiting in the future. …

We stayed at the Walls for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The location of the B&B is ideal, just a 2 minute walk onto Bridge Street, which has some lovely bars and restaurants. The house itself is a beautiful property and we were made to feel very welcome. We stayed in the Walls room, which was very spacious, comfortable and immaculately clean. Our breakfasts were delicious - being vegan I appreciated the dairy free spread, alpro yoghurts and oat milk. Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Walls and we’ll definitely stay again in the future!

We had a 3 night stay in this wonderful B & B, the second time this year we have stayed here. Stephen and Louise are amazing hosts who really look after you from arrival to leaving, it was lovely to sit in the lounge in the evening, having a drink from the honesty bar with a log fire blazing in the wood burner. The rooms are super clean and comfortable and there were little treats left for us too, Stephens breakfasts are to die for! Berwick is a nice historic town with plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy, we had an Indian meal, a Turkish meal and a traditional English one. There is a lot to do and see in and around Berwick and we also took the train to Edinburgh for a day which was a nice thing to do. Thank you Stephen and Louise, you deserve more than five stars and we hope to see you again soon.…

Absolutely beautiful B&B, the breakfast was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. The rooms were comfy and well catered for with Sky TV ( caught up on a couple of films!) and the views I'm sure ( it was raining when we were there) would be amazing in the sunshine. The guest lounge is SO comfy, with lovely sofas, a wood burning stove and an endless supply of chocolates - what's not to love!

Everything about our single night stay was first class. Stephen and Louise really have thought about every detail to make your stay as welcoming, enjoyable and relaxing as possible. Too many to mention but highlights were the award winning breakfast, the very reasonable honesty bar in the guest lounge, comfort levels, cleanliness, friendliness and engagement of our excellent hosts. We, like many other guests who have stayed prior, will be back!

This is without doubt the best B&B we have ever experienced, the room is 4/5 star hotel standard and the service and food at breakfast is superb. Hosts are wonderful and we have never had a better nights sleep when staying away. Absolute gem.
