The Walls is a wonderful bed and breakfast with the added bonus of being situated actually on the Elizabethan wall separating the quayside from the town, which ensured wonderful views across the river. Steve and Louise are welcoming, attentive and expert hosts. Our room was large, very well equipped and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection of cooked dishes, cereals, spreads and gorgeous freshly made bread.

This was our second stay at this B&B and the quality and service were as consistently good as our first stay. It was as popular as the lat time we visited, as we could not book the dates we wanted 9 months ago so had to adjust our holiday arrangements so we could stay again. The B&B is in a nice quiet location on the town walls looking over the River Tweed. We had a lovely room facing the river that was well equipped. The B&B has a lounge downstairs with a drinks fridge for residents use. The fridge was well stocked with small bottles of wine, beer/lager and soft drinks and operated through an honesty "box". Prices were excellent. Breakfast was again very good with a great choice of options. .The Northumbrian hot breakfast included locally sourced bacon, sausages and haggis. They also serve local Craster kippers and cater for those with special dietary needs. The hosts - Stephen and Louise - are a mine of information and ensure guests are well looked after. We will certainly stay again in the future.

Stephen and Louise are excellent hosts. I felt very welcome at The Walls. All guests were lovely to chat to too at breakfast. The food was delicious. I had the Northumbrian Platter and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ensuite shower room looked like it had been installed the day before—it was very nice—and all the toiletries were high quality. Lots of choice on the TV if you fancy a quiet night in. The B&B is is very close to where all the action is down at the quay.

My husband and I visited Berwick upon Tweed for a long weekend with our friends. We had a fabulous time, the icing on the cake was our stay at The Walls Bed & Breakfast. The beautifully decorated rooms were immaculate, and the view spectacular. We found the attention to detail impressive, tasty biscuits, to enjoy with a cup of tea, a dark face cloth for make up removal, lovely warm fluffy towels and a bed so comfortable... We enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast each morning with an endless supply of coffee. I would have no hesitataion in recommending the accommodation, and look forward to returning.

Following our first stay at the Walls in 2023, we immediately booked to return in 2024. Our review then was full of unpatronising praise and gratitude for a wonderful experience and we had been looking forward to our recent stay ever since. Our first hand knowledge of the luxury of our accommodation was a real plus and we were delighted when Louise opened the door to us to welcome us back with a tangible warmth that conveyed a genuine pleasure to see us again. The hospitality, thereafter, for the week was absolutely sublime. Stephen and Louise looked after us and the other guests with a real interest in how we were using and enjoying our time with no shortage of recommendations for other things to consider and a really informed knowledge of the streets and buildings of Berwick which we so much enjoy seeing. I think it would be impossible to find a better B&B anywhere let alone just in Berwick or the North East. The three bedrooms all have discrete access and breakfast start times are staggered to ensure privacy and personal attention. Beyond that, breakfast was beautifully prepared to order each morning and really set us up for the day. There are so many little touches in a perfect location that mean that you want for nothing here. Needless to say, whilst we were only part way through our week’s stay, we booked ahead for another week next September. Can’t wait. Thank you again, Stephen and Louise, for your unsurpassable hospitality.

Louise and Stephen are wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome. They gave us lots of useful information about the history of the area, the buses and good restaurants. We stayed in the Swan room, which had a very comfortable bed and pillows, and it was peaceful and quiet. We didn't hear anything from the other guests; the room looked out over the footpath along the top of the walls to the harbour and there was no noise from passers-by (I think there were none as Berwick is very quiet at night!). The breakfasts were delicious; there was freshly-made fruit salad on our table when we arrived, and there was a choice of all sorts of cooked breakfasts from a full "Northumberland" breakfast, to Eggs Benedict/florentine, avocado on toast, etc. The bread is bought every day from the local bakery and makes very nice toast, with a choice of local jams, marmalade and honey, or Tiptree jams etc. We would definitely come back to the Walls again if we were going to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

We browsed hotels, B&Bs and cottages in the Berwick upon Tweed area before settling on the Walls, based on reviews and location. We are extremely glad we did! We only stayed for 2 nights, but they were a fabulous 2 nights.

The room was really comfortable and spacious and there was nothing missing, plenty of seating and stunning views of the river and bridges. The bed was superb, really comfortable and massive (super king), The bathroom was lovely with a brilliant large shower and furnished with White Company toiletries. We slept wonderfully well - especially with the wooden shutters and curtains drawn.

Breakfast though was something else. I genuinely mean this when I say it is probably the best breakfast I've had in any B&B or hotel that I can remember. Starting off with a brilliant fruit salad, hot drinks, cold drinks, cereals, then moving onto an extensive cooked menu, the quality of which was outstanding. Lovely local produce, extremely well cooked. Stephen is more than happy to chat and knows a great deal of history about the area and Louise is also a great host and obviously brilliant cook.

Check in and check out was painless, the car parking not an issue as there is a free (for 24 hours at a time) car park outside and the honesty bar in the lovely guest lounge is a great touch.

We will definitely return! If you're eating in the evening - a huge mention to Audella just behind, but that's another review ...

from the moment we entered the property it was clear that this was a B&B that took care of the little details that make it a pleasure to stay there. The room was large, warm and comfortable. The view from the windows are of the river and close enough to watch the birds feeding. The TV was massive. The food for breakfast was excellent. Stephen and Louise are friendly and easy to talk to.

We stayed three days in family room on the first floor in the first half of August at The Walls.
The two adjacent family rooms provided enough space for my partner, my daughter and myself. They are traditionally decorated. We missed a bit of storage place as we had a lot of luggage. We especially enjoyed the high-quality mattresses of the beds that gave us a good sleep.
The view from the family room to the mouth of the river Tweed into North Sea gave us the feeling as living almost at the coast.
The bathroom was large and nicely clean. The sink for washing the hands or brushing the teeth was rather small. If you generously splash your hands you may need to dry the floor. However, this was well compensated in our view with large modern shower that was working very well.
A highlight of our stay was the breakfast that was served on the lower levels of the building. All juices and breakfast cereals were fresh and tasty. My partner and my daughter enjoyed the traditional breakfast. I myself ordered kippers / smoked haddock in advance for the second and third day, respectively. These dishes were delicately cooked.
We like rambling or walking along the beaches, observe washed up seaweed, shells, small creatures, birds, etc. Stephen and Louise provided us excellent information about these topics, and we enjoyed walking along the pristine, sandy, and breezy beaches south of Berwick.
Last not least, we think that The Walls offer a fair price / value for a stay at a Bed & Breakfast in Northumberland.

I have to say that the Walls in Berwick-upon-Tweed exceeds any place that we have stayed while traveling. And, believe me, we have stayed in a LOT of places over the years, mostly in Scotland, but also in Northern England as well.

From the greeting, to the comfort of the room, to the amazing breakfast, everything was just perfect. And, the price was the lowest of any establishment that we stayed on our 2 week recent visit to the area.

The downside was that there was only one night available for our stay. How disappointing!

I'm not really sure about the parking during the week, but we were able to easily park along the river, just below the wall to the B&B, at no cost. But we were out and about by 10:00 AM on a Monday morning, so I'm not sure what happens during the regular work week. Regarding the room: The bathroom was quite roomy with a lovely, relatively new, shower. There were fluffy towels, washcloths, a hairdryer, and shampoo/conditioner and body wash for our use.

A hospitality tray featured coffee and tea, but also home made truffles as well as cookie treats for us to enjoy. Outside the room in the hallway, there was a keurig like machine if one wanted more of a cappuccino like coffee to enjoy.

Breakfast was downstairs in a special room where we were waited on as if we were very special guests. We were treated to fresh fruit salad and fresh made bread, yogurt and cereal if one chose. I had a hot muffin with scrambled egg and bacon, which was quite tasty. And, the coffee was quite flavorful, apparently coming from a local coffee roaster.

This place was like a dream come true. I highly recommend staying here if you get the opportunity to do so.

Thank you so much for your comprehensive review and for your kind and very generous remarks. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and only wish that you could have stayed longer. To clarify the position with car parking, parking during the peak season can be a challenge during the day but there are usually plenty of spaces overnight. For those staying multiple nights, we can if necessary issue a parking permit that allows you to leave your car in the residential areas for as long as you need to. We would love to have the chance to welcome you back to Berwick in the future.

I just wanted to add that the owners are lovely and the property is beautiful; I thoroughly enjoyed both of my stays. I live in the USA and certainly didn't bring any pets to the UK. I have no specific information regarding pet-friendliness; however, if you can arrange a visit, I'm sure that you'd be very pleased with your choice.
