What a great place to stay. The rooms were spotlessly clean and breakfast was just what we needed to cure our hangover from the wedding party the previous day. Our Family had booked five rooms and everyone was very pleased. A few tips when you stay here. Read the messages before your arrival because it tells you exactly what you need to know for the check in process. Note down your time slot for breakfast and notify in advanced for special dietary requirements. There is a little fridge available in the community room for fresh milk for in your coffee or tea. Do not put any of your own drinks in… other guests might think it to be a free welcome drink. (Happened to one of us, lol) If you go for a drink at the William De Percy, (few doors down) mention you stay at the Butter churn for some discount. Make a reservation if you want to eat there as well. Last but not least. The owner and staff are all very nice and helpful. If there is anything you need, or are not happy with. Tell them immediately. They will do their best to help you out.

Just stayed at the butterchurn guest house for a wedding at le petit chateau. The rooms were absolutely fantastic, we stayed in Otercops. beds were very comfortable and the room was lovely and clean. There was plenty of plug sockets in good places which is always helpful for getting ready!
Lots of nice little touches around the B&B
We had the pleasure of having Clair making us a fabulous breakfast both mornings and she was excellent at catering for all our needs. Very friendly and helpful with all aspects of our stay. Food was lovely. We also met Nikki and Pam who were excellent servers too and had a good chat with us. Darren arrived this morning just before we checked out and was lovely also. He sent us a very thorough and helpful text to let us know our rooms were ready and how to get in etc

Would definitely recommend a stay at this lovely B&B
Very welcoming and homely!

We stayed here 1 night for a wedding in the area, as we had travelled for over 3hrs to get here we had arrived early, this want not a problem, we were able to drop our bags while the room was still being refreshed and cleaned.

The welcome from Claire was warm and nothing was an issue.

Access to the site is disabled friendly and secure! rooms spotless and comfortable, we didn’t want to get out of bed!

Breakfast was made to order with plenty of choice. However please be prepared to be up early, they finish breakfast just after 9am. Maybe a little later would be welcomed.

We have already decide that we will be back, this is an excellent Guesthouse to make a base to walk around the local area, there is a Pub/Restaurant 5min walk up the road so amenities are all here for a pleasant weekend away.

See you again soon!

Steven & Nik

The Butterchurn Guest House is a home from Home. Mark, Jane & Pam could not be more accommodating and felt like part of the family by the time we left. Mark and Jane have supported us with wedding planning, postponing due to Covid and wedding planning some more. No question was too difficult and no ask was too big either in the run up to or during our stay. In terms of cleanliness - the guesthouse is spotless from top to bottom. The rooms are a great size and can accommodate a range of group sizes (we had single guests and families of 5).

We booked here with our family for the weekend before our Wedding in Otterburn. The Butterchurn is a B&B i would trust with my family, guests and wedding guests every time - they listened and catered for every need and very clearly care about their guests wellbeing and well-fare. They go above and beyond with little touches such as printing out info sheets with local activities, providing us with local food options and by being consistently friendly, open and available.

I am so grateful to the Butterchurn for everything they did during our stay, and we will definitely be returning.

Thank you Jane, Mark and Pam x

We have just stayed here for the evening before we attend a friends wedding down the road. In fact, we’re still here sat in the lounge. Check out time is 10:00am but after speaking to the 2 lovely ladies who are running the place, they said we were welcome to stay in the room a bit longer and they’ll clean the other rooms prior to ours and then after that, we were welcome to sit in the lounge until we have to attend the wedding. The full English breakfast was amazing, I ate the lot, just hoping I’ve got room for the wedding meal now 🫣
My lad opted for beans on toast 😊
We stayed in the room called Padon. It was super clean. No complaints whatsoever. There’s a cozy little snug on the ground floor along with the shower and toilet and then upstairs there’s a single bed and a double bed. I wish it wasn’t a cloudy night as it would have been lovely looking out of the multiple skylights at the stars 😍
Will definitely be back for a few nights with the family to take in some of the sights and go walking.

Would highly recommend to anyone

Very comfortable beds with nice bedlinen. Nicely lit, and well designed. Tea and coffee making facilities with proper milk in a little fridge in the lounge area.
Well run guesthouse, with delicious breakfast, presented with a smile. Highly recommended 👍

Absolutely lovely guesthouse! Had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable including tea/coffee/biscuits in the room as well as a full length mirror and light up mirror in the bathroom, which was perfect for getting ready for the wedding we were attending at Le Petit Chateux. Located perfectly for weddings there due to it being about a 1 minute walk down the street (and even manageable in heels!)
Beautiful breakfast and very friendly staff/management. Couldn’t fault the place and would definitely recommend.

Good Size Room, Clean, Fresh, Warm, Good Breakfast, Well Run, Fair Value

The room was a very good size, warm and well appointed. Nothing was in need of updating. Heating was effective and was on when you needed it and fully controllable.

Cleanliness across the board was first rate. Not a mark or odour, everything spotless.
Shower good size, worked well. Communal areas also very nice.

Staff were friendly, accommodating and effective.

Breakfast was the right amount and to a good standard, good quality sausage and bacon.

Beds good quality frames, firm, sprung mattresses, subjective but on the whole comfortable.

Value proposition is fair to good. It's not priced like a budget hotel because it isn't one and is a substantial step up, but it isn't overpriced either especially for a functional family sized room. It's a good standard for a reasonable price given breakfast is included. Feels like this is possible because it's clearly very well run.

Minor constructive criticism: Sound proofing and privacy might have been an issue but for us was tolerable. Clock bell, traffic and wedding passers by all clearly audible despite properly maintained double glazing. Our room was at ground floor and right next to the road. If you're a light sleeper or don't like to be overlooked during the day you might struggle at busier times. Sound from the bell every hour could get tedious after a while, but I actually found it quaint. Traffic and passers by were more audible than you would want but thankfully infrequent on this occasion, so overall this did not negatively impact our short stay. If you're staying longer perhaps ask for a room less affected - assuming there are some. Being adjacent to a very busy wedding venue you're somewhat at the mercy of the guests in this regard, so it's probably pot luck and something to raise if you're sensitive. As significant as this could have been, it was still a very good room on its other merits.

Overall: Very good. Would stay again.

Fantastic stay at the Butterchurn last weekend. Booked 2 rooms as we were attending a family wedding at Le Petit Chateau which was literally 2 mins walk. Staff were so accommodating and had the rooms ready an hour earlier than usual check-in so that we could get a quick change and off to the wedding. Beautifully decorated and comfortable bedrooms, the whole guest house was immaculate. Breakfast included a selection of juices, cereals, fruit & yoghurts etc followed by choice of hot breakfast which was cooked to order-and absolutely delicious! Such pleasant and hardworking hosts, we will most definitely return, thank you again.

We were attending a friends wedding in Otterburn and this accommodation was recommended as there were three of us so we needed a room to sleep us all together if possible for two nights. The price was very reasonable for our room, especially when we saw how lovely it was. We couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant stay.

Even before we arrived, I had contacted Jane for some advice as I have an eating disorder and as such wanted to be well prepared for travelling. Jane couldn’t have been more understanding, compassionate and helpful. She went over and above to make sure I had a plan of how and where I would eat throughout my stay. This meant the world to me personally.

On our arrived we received a lovely warm welcome and were shown to our room. It was large room with a big bathroom. Perfect for the three of us. There was a double bed and two singles. All were beautifully presented. The room was cleaned to a really high standard. I also have OCD so this was really pleasing and meant I could relax comfortably throughout our stay.

There was a great selection of breakfast options available between 8am and 9am. Both hot and cold options available for both food and drink. The service was speedy so you didn’t have to wait long at all. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room also which come in handy.

We were given our own key to access the building which meant there were no time constraints for coming and going which was perfect for us.

I honestly couldn’t recommend this accommodation enough. The service was amazing and so friendly. Jane was only too happy to help with anything we asked - including taking photos of the three of us before the big day! We’d also asked for an extra mirror to help the three of us when getting ready and Jane provided this no problem. We really appreciated this as there was only one in the main room and one in the bathroom which we didn’t want to have to fight over! Ha.

I’d love to be able to visit again but it is unlikely I’ll be in the area again. However, if I ever am I would definitely stay again. It was a lovely, comfortable stay.

Thank You for your wonderful hospitality.
