Charming 16th-century country inn has exposed stone walls, original beams, low ceilings and open fires. Run by the Kershaws since 1985, the inn was originally a farmhouse and has been refurbished to a very high standard. Using only the finest and freshest locally sourced produce and ingredients some of the house specialties to savour are simply cooked fresh fish, game and mushroom pie and slow roasted Northumbrian lamb.

Detailed Reviews
On our first visit to Kielder we chose the family-run Pheasant Inn because of its close proximity to Kielder Water and the Observatory. We were not disappointed. This well-managed establishment lived up to all our expectations. A quiet well appointed comfortable and clean courtyard room, friendly and efficient service, an extensive menu of freshly prepared food served reasonably promptly in comfortable surroundings. All the required Covid protocols were clearly adhered to with plenty of hand-sanitisers available and staff wearing protective face coverings at all times.
A big "THANK YOU" to owners Robin and Angela for making our anniversary such a pleasant experience.

We stayed here with a couple of friends using it as a base for an evening visit to the 'Dark Skies Centre' at Kielder. The owners of the Pheasant are used to people going there so arriving back at the Inn in the early hours of the morning wasn't a problem. Our room was on the first floor of the extension and was very warm and comfortable. We had excellent evening meals from their reasonably extensive menu which also had a good wine list!
The breakfast was more than substantial with a wide range of choices from full cooked through to continental style so you could have as little or as much as you wanted.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the service was very good.
We all agreed that this hostelry is an excellent place to stay if visiting the Dark Skies Centre or as a base for a more extended holiday in the beautiful Northumberland National Park.

Booked this at short notice as the lockdown restrictions were lifted. Couldn't have picked a better or safer pace to stay for 3 nights.
The Pub/Hotel is super nice and the staff were all terrific. They are taking hygiene and social distancing very seriously here but that didn't prevent them from serving up some excellent food and drinks.
We stayed in the self catering cottage (very nice and very comfortable) but ate in the restaurant each night and the food and the service was first class. As this was there first opening nights after lockdown it couldn't have been easy for them but they did a great job.
It's the perfect place to explore Kielder and all it as to offer as well as visit places like Hexham and Morpeth.
Parking is good and it's really very very quiet with nothing to bother you other than the hooting of owls and bleeting of sheep.
Great place, loved it.

As always people have different expectations and opinions but paying £130 per night for a B&B you expect to be able sleep, have concerns about room to be attended too and not feel restaurant food prices are more expensive than, in my opinion, is reasonable e.g. to pay £19 for 6 crackers and four thin slices of two cheese types as a “Northumberland Cheese Board” is not good value, neither is paying £19+ for a dresses crab salad that was very much a small crab, a small mixed salad and two new potatoes cut into 4 halves! Our toilet seat was very loose, reported, following day still not fixed and no feedback to us from staff, when chased up all I got back was that it was passed on! Low hum noise in room stopped a good nights sleep being had, reported and no feedback as to how it was being addressed. We left early after two nights from a 3 night stay as to face another night of not getting a good sleep was not tempered by the thought of good value food to overcome the sleepless nights. This was my experience and hopefully not for others to face the same.

The pub is a traditional country pub. Until you check out the menu. It is far more than pub grub!. This is top restaurant quality. The service for breakfast and evening meal is warm, friendly and extremely welcoming. The view from my room overlooked Falstone, forests of trees mid autumnal colours. What a view. The bedroom very comfortable with every facility. Coffee and tea providing a good choice. WiFi very good and consistent. The bathroom had a good shower always warm. The towels were very soft and fluffy. The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. Ample parking. The night sky from the grounds of the Pheasant was full of stars. So you don't have to walk far to see the nightly. I wished I could stay longer. There are no faults. Absolutely superb. I will be back.

Booked a table for lunch on a miserable day while we were away. This was actually our first meal out this year!!! We were a little nervous but sanitizer on entry and lots of space put us at ease. Staff were really friendly. The food was absolutely lovely. Puddings were melt in the mouth amazing. Really enjoyable meal that brightened our day.

Visited today after a lovely bank holiday trip to leaplish at kielder. We were booked in for lunch, 55 adults and 3 children. Our child is only 1 and half and required a high chair which we were told to bring with us on booking. That should have beena warning sign on their views about children visiting!
Whilst sat at the table waiting for our food our 1 year old became excited (and did let out a few squeals) at seeing his cousins - the two older children in our party. Sadly, the waitress came over and stated the owner had asked to us to leave until our son "calmed himself down." Shocked at the lack of tolerance, we considered leaving, feeling rather embarrassed, angry and upset.
Awkward.
The table next to us sympathised which made us feel a little better.
The restaurant was deathly quietwhich didnt help our vocal child, no music and certainly no atmosphere.
However, when the food arrived I have to say it was very nice.
Shame about the awful pint of Guinness.
It's difficult enough dining with a small child - thanks - we wont be returning!

We stayed in the self catering Garden Cottage, adjacent to the Inn. This was our second stay in the cottage and enjoyed every minute despite the slightly inclement weather!
Excellent facilities - two bedrooms both with ensuite and an open plan kitchen/lounge with log burner (which we appreciated in March!). Dishwasher and washing machine, fridge freezer, oven, microwave & hob all fully functioning. Just installed is an EV charging point on the outside of the cottage flank wall. The added advantage of the location adj the Inn is of course the option of eating out in the evening!
Also Kielder Reservoir is only a 3 mins drive up the road and approx 20 mins drive to the Dark Sky Observatory at the northern end of the reservoir.
Highly recommended.

Everything was fantastic, and beyond our expectations. We stayed overnight on a journey to the north Northumberland coast and had such a fantastic experience we didn't hestitate to stay again on our reverse journey. The family run Inn is situated so close to Kielder Waters and Forest Park with wonderful views of breathtaking beauty. Both rooms we stayed in were of a very high standard and very quiet. The owners and staff were very attentive and welcoming, making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The range of excellent food and beverages was greatly appreciated. Thank you so much to you all for going that extra mile ...

Just back from a 2 night stay at the Pheasant Inn.
Despite it having a fairly remote location, the Inn was busy with a fairly full car park & the restaurant being popular in the evenings.
The room was comfortable & extremely quiet, which we enjoyed, being light sleepers.
We had dinner there both nights. Comments from previous guests on the excellent food are accurate. The meals were delicious, & reasonably priced (as was the wine list).
Breakfast was served at the table & was good normal English fare, with incidentally, the most delicious croissants!).
Staff were pleasant & helpful.
All in all a pleasant visit.
