Charming 16th-century country inn has exposed stone walls, original beams, low ceilings and open fires. Run by the Kershaws since 1985, the inn was originally a farmhouse and has been refurbished to a very high standard. Using only the finest and freshest locally sourced produce and ingredients some of the house specialties to savour are simply cooked fresh fish, game and mushroom pie and slow roasted Northumbrian lamb.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Property's Favourite Review
Two of us stayed here for one night of a 3 day cycling tour of Northumberland. It's just a 2 mile hike from Kielder dam. We had tea and it was lovely. The staff were very friendly and efficient with some imaginative sales patter from one lad about drinks ideas. Breakfast was excellent and the room was lovely. Thanks very much everyone.

Lovely friendly welcome with great food and service. Cold room on arrival but heating immediately started by manager on request. Typical friendly, helpful Northumberland service where nothing seems too much trouble. Cosy pub to which we shall be returning. Thank you

Excellent stay, great staff and superb food. The room was lovely, nice to have Yorkshire tea in the room, the shower was excellent and everything was set out well. The room was small, but lots of storage space. We took our bikes and the area is great for riding around the reservoir.

What a fantastic stay 3 day stay we had recently celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Our bedroom was so lovely with an extremely large en-suite. The restaurant food was delicious, having eaten 3 courses every night chosing from a most inviting menu. Well done to the chef and all concerned - we will be back!
