Had a reasonable Sunday dinner here, good value, pleasant surroundings. I would recommend it. Just lacking abit of atmosphere, but that was because it was very quiet. Parking available in the hotel car park but also public car parking behind the hotel which is free after 6 and on Sundays

This hotel served its purpose for a short two day break as it is dog friendly. We arrived at the time that the receptionist was clocking off so it was a rushed arrival and we had to change rooms which didn't seem to go down well. The little beer garden was table service and very nice and busy. The restaurant was empty and quiet but service and food was good. The hotel is clean and looks newly decorated. The beds are comfortable although large but with very small pillows. The furniture is very dated and not in keeping with the hotel. Parking is fine although the hotel is difficult to find as it is on the high street and quite easy to miss! I did find it expensive for two midweek nights especially charging £20 a night for a small dog, other hotels are cheaper and more accommodating.

We booked a cheapy Groupon weekend to this hotel which we visited about 5 years ago.

We had a great weekend, first impressions always count with me and the Receptionist went over and above to brief us on the rooms, meal times, hotel and Worksop.

The rooms had recently been refurbished and had huge bathrooms (304/5).

The food in the restaurant was truly excellent, cooked to perfection and very reasonably priced. Compliments to the Chef who obviously knows what he is doing.

We will be returning.

I booked this stay through a Groupon deal. Upon arrival, my husband and I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist named Karen who was very polite and helpful. Our room was very spacious with a king size bed and the bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished as it was lovely. On the evening, we thoroughly enjoyed a 3 course meal that we had booked in the restaurant. There was also a good choice of breakfast choices..

My friends and I had particularly chosen this place as we’d noticed they offered a vegan BLT on their lunchtime menu. We’d all bought drinks whilst reading the menu, I knew what I wanted! The server came back to notify me that it wasn’t available. He could only offer the Penang curry from the main menu (£12:95) then, as an after thought he offered a jacket potato without butter as a main!
The curry was bland and cold. My three friends were all happy with theirs, two having filled baguettes (£7:95) which came with a nice side salad. The other friend did have a jacket potato and filling.
I paid over the odds for a poor quality lunch. The apple crumble with vegan cream was perfect!
Disappointing lunch.

The room I booked was an executive double, the room was as though it stepped out of 1975 and looked nothing like the advertised photo. I rechecked there was not another executive double, but there wasn’t only that photo. The bed appeared to be a super king size but it turned to be two 3ft mattresses pushed together which resulted in a very defined ridge in the middle of the bed which caused a sleepless night, added to the fact there was no provision to control the room temperature. I didn’t book a Travelodge as I thought I’d found a nicer room for my money - how wrong was I? I didn’t complain as I was very late to meet family and dumped our bags and left; fortunately we slept there and that was it.

On the plus side the hot water was plentiful and the bath was clean and was nice to use at the end of a hectic day. We skipped breakfast as the room decor had put us off.

Advice to hotel: don’t advertise what you can’t deliver.

Stayed one night and had dinner in hotel - from a wander down the main road next morning I suspect the hotel is probably the best place to eat.
The hotel is convenient for the town centre and has adequate parking to the rear - drive round to the road behind to access. We thought the hotel gave excellent value for money, our room was good for the price. Bed was comfortable, lots of tea, coffee etc sachets, bath and shower. We had breakfast next morning, both cooked and Continental items available from the menu, just paid for the items we wanted so could chose how much we actually wanted. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Facilities are good but price now 50% higher than when I last stayed at the Lion Hotel in March this year, the value for money is not as good.

Note: If you need a morning wake up, then beware there are no telephones in the rooms to allow a load wake-up. Only a knock on the door was offered which I managed to sleep through!

Better than your usual pub grub, think of it as fine dining pub meals. 😋
Service was good, but a male waiter was a bit too familiar and “joked” about a curvy friend ordering a lot of food! This embarrassed my friend and caused upset which stupid of him.
Food was delicious and puds ( cheesecake) was presented with such flair and finesse, Gordon Ramsay would have been happy

Worst fish and chips Iv ever had lukewarm food fish looked like the oil needed changing. We was a party of 10 and 8 of us had finished food before the last two came out. One ordered medium steak that was well done. Over priced for what it is. Will never eat there again shockingly poor quality

how near to the goose fair is the hotel please?
Answer from Gemma Gordon
Worksop, United Kingdom2 contributions2 helpful votes
Hi Lynda, We are about an hour drive away from the Goose Fair, but the Fair can get really quite busy, and it can be hard to park. There is also a train straight from Worksop to Nottingham, and you can walk to the station in about 15 minutes. Please phone me at the hotel if I can do anything else for you. Best wishes, Gemma
