We are situated in Faringdon, an historic 16th Century market town. The Old Crown has recently been beautifully restored by combining its rustic charm with a dash of Art Deco. Convenient transport links to destinations such as Oxford, London and Bristol and surrounding towns in the Cotswolds such as Burford, Bourton on the Water, Bath and Cheltenham. Dining in The Ballroom is a memorable experience. Bespoke tasting menus inspired with seasonal local produce accompanied with modern culinary techniques. Curated by the award winning resident Head Chef, Samuel Squires, alongside talented kitchen team members Daniel Catalano and Adam Forster. Staying within a 16th century inn, such as The Old Crown Coaching Inn is an experience to remember in one of our beautifully appointed rooms. Choose to stay in our sumptuous Courtroom Suite or one of other Superior rooms. You would also be able to enjoy cosying up in front of the inglenook fireplace roaring by the snug in our downstairs bar.

Detailed Reviews
After not visiting the crown for many years we decided to return after hearing it had been taken over and refurbished.
We had booked a two night stay in the 'Court Room' As it was our wedding anniversary.
I had booked directly and had spoken to 'Sebastiaan' who was superb and nothing was too much trouble.
The building had had an extensive renovation throughout and had clearly been restored back to its former glory and then some!
We had last stayed here Ten years ago & Were thrilled the building had been given the attention it deserved!
When we arrived we were met by the barman Dale & his dad who were a superb team and showed us up to the stunning refurbished room that was incredible and had everything that we possibly needed.
On the first evening we booked a table in the ball room for dinner and the standard of Food & Service was second to none with the most incredible wine selection I have seen in many years anywhere.
Sebastian had reccomended a particular French red that he had perfectly paired with our main course.
The young waitresses that evening deserve a special mention as they were superb and efficent & are a real credit to the place.
We both would like to thank you so much for making our weekend extra special & Wish you all the success after the refurbishment and we look forward to being back again soon!

Stayed at The Old Crown courtesy of my son and partner for my early birthday celebration. We stayed in the Court room and felt like royalty. The room is huge with a very comfy four poster bed and two large sofas that sit in front of a huge fireplace. Beautifully decorated in a traditional way in keeping with the hotel and its history. All the little touches make a difference like the coffee pod machine, fridge etc. The bathroom is large with a very powerful shower and a jacuzzi bath.
The hotel as a whole is a wonderful place to stay and all the staff are so helpful and friendly. We had Sunday lunch with the family and the roast was delicious. Very generous portions, even the children’s. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can easily rate it as our best hotel stay in a long time. Definitely recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to stay on a Saturday night while visiting Clarksonland (previously known as the Cotswolds) and we fell on our feet by finding the Old Crown in Faringdon.
The place is a labyrinthine old inn dripping in history. We stayed in room 1 overlooking the market square., It has a high, beamed ceiling, a very comfortable king sized bed and a large TV which unusually has netflix, Amazon prime and Disney in addition to the usual channels. The ensuite bathroom had a powerful hot shower.
The main bar had a selection of real ales and premium lagers and, as Saturday night is live music night, was packed to the rafters with friendly locals enjoying the band. We staggered back to our room around midnight (we didn't have an evening meal).
After a good night's sleep, breakfast was served in the ballroom restaurant at the back of the building. We had the full English and it was as good any we've had - quality ingredients expertly cooked - the black pudding was outstanding.
I'm struggling to think of any cons. The carpark is a bit tight, though parking in the market square is ok on a Saturday night, oh and the radiator is a little small in the room, I imagine it could get chilly in the coldest weather. But really this place a little gem, great staff and great value for money.

This is a lovely old, rustic Coaching Inn that has unfortunately started to let itself down.
I appreciate that they have to take any business, from any avenue but it appears that that approach has slightly turned this Hotel into a cheap ‘transit accommodation‘ option, providing a bed for all sorts of transient builders and highway workers. No doubt benefitting from attractive corporate discounts.
The thing is, while this is not really an issue, although it can be distracting to regularly hear loud labourers congregating around the bar - making no concessions about their ‘colourful’ language, what puts many locals off most is, these ‘guests’ rarely seem to bother to change out of their (bright day-glo) work clothes, which kills the ambience of the place.
So please forgive me for being a snob, but it really lowers the tone of the place that sometimes looks and sounds like a building site tea room. My suggestion would be to apply a ‘No day-glo or work clothes’ rule after 6:30pm or so, to encourage people to have a wash and change after work, and thereby making the venue a bit more inviting again.

Good afternoon, Scotia. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad you like the property. I cannot say I disagree with some of your comments. When we bought the Hotel in 2021, the property was in a state of disrepair with rooms at a price that would suit the cheaper end of the market. Having spent most of last year extensively refurbishing the entire property, our offer now targets the premium business and holiday traveller. Our rooms are three times the price of a budget hotel a mile or so from our hotel. Which is not the market we are looking to attract or one that would warrant our state-of-the-art kitchen, Wine Bar and Ballroom Restaurant alongside an extremely experience team of chefs, mixologist, maître d’ and waiting team delivering a fine-dining food experienced to complement our beautiful rooms here at The Crown. To the front of the property, we have our less-formal public bar. Our prices in here are again higher than other businesses in the Town. Which is done so as we want to attract the clientele that would match the family friendly hotel atmosphere we are looking to achieve. However, there are times where the noise, language and dress-code fall short of what we are working so hard to achieve, and what we have already achieved so far. Once again, I would like to thank you for your review. It is reviews like yours where we can learn where we have fallen short. We have had a productive staff meeting this morning, with further policy changes to be implemented to prevent even the occasional atmosphere which you experienced. Best wishes, Sebastiaan Evans.

I recently travelled to Oxford to play golf with friends. I stumbled across this absolute gem of a hotel which I understand from the owners has only recently been completely refurbished and is a complete transformation of the old tired hotel that it was.
I stayed only for one night but couldn’t fault anything. The room, food, staff & service was exceptional.
I plan to re-visit again very soon with my wife!!!
I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody who is planning on staying in or near faringdon or even if you are just looking for somewhere to dine I would thoroughly recommend the restaurant as the food was very high end whilst being very reasonably priced, topped off by being set in a luxurious setting….👍🏻

My friend lives locally so we had dinner at the tastefully appointed restaurant in the Ballroom on the Friday night. There were only two other couples dining that night, which was a shame as the food is excellent and the service enthusiastic, if a little unpolished. For fine dining, the menu competes with the best of London eateries but the prices are more reasonable - three courses for £45 at that quality seems a steal these days and you can buy a decent wine too for around £40. Presentation is attractive and you can have a drink at the bar at the bottom of the stairs before making your way to the Ballroom, so all in all a very enjoyable night out. This establishment deserves to do well!

This is the perfect wedding venue. From the minute you arrive, as a guest the staff work as a terrific team and they make every single person who has attended the wedding feel special.
What's more of you have an allergy or dietary needs, there is a member of staff on hand who ensures that you receive the correct dish.
Everyone from the bar staff, waiting staff and the meeters and greeters, they all work in synch with one another. I had a suit jacket on and it was a hot day, so I took it off. A member of staff came over to me and showed me where I could hand the jacket. This is the level of customer service.
I attended a beautiful wedding in this venue and it was enhanced by superb staff who really care about your experience. I would return here from Manchester in a heartbeat.
Thanks to everyone who worked so hard at this wonderful wedding.

Having just returned from an amazing weekend break at the Old Coaching Inn I just wanted to recommend this wonderful gem.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were promptly shown to our room which was lovely . The decor was very tasteful and definitely still in keeping with the old building. Our room was spacious , well equipped with various tea / coffee’s and a coffee machine .The bed was really comfortable and the linen and towels were off a high quality .
The bathroom had a shower and was spotlessly clean as was the rest of the room.
We decided to have a drink in the bar with the locals and we were made to feel very welcome.
Dinner in the restaurant was truly amazing. The quality of the food, taste and presentation were second to none - compliments to the chef. Breakfast the following morning was one of the best I have ever had .The stay has made even better by the members of staff we encountered.Liam seemed to be everywhere, whenever we needed him and he made us feel very “at home “ Nothing was too much trouble for Caitlin and Jasmine even played the piano as my partner asked if anyone played .Jasmine you were amazing and you made our stay a very memorable one.
As the title says Wow and I can honestly say it was .Thank you again Liam and see you again soon .

Just back from a weekend break at the Old Crown.
Firstly, the good bits; our first night was in the Court Room. A very spacious, well-appointed room. Comfortable bed and linen. A great room. We ate the first night in the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. I had the scallops followed by the cod and my wife had the mussels and cod. Really tasty and well presented.
The Bad: for our meal I ordered a £40 bottle of wine which the waitress just opened and plonked on the table. Didn’t check to see if it was the correct wine or offered us a taste or pour the wine.
Next morning we went down for breakfast at 08.45 but found breakfast was not served until 09.15. At 09.15 we returned, said “Good Morning” to the waiter and sat down in the breakfast room. We sat and waited nearly 15minutes but no sign of getting served. Eventually we got up and left for the delightful deli next door, where service was cheery and prompt.
The Ugly: our second night we had to move rooms which we were aware of on booking. We were given the “Deluxe Room” No.1 There is nothing deluxe with Room 1. No wardrobe or chest of draws, view of a brick wall. The ensuite is a cupboard, barely room to turn around. The room overlooks the square and you are kept awake till v. late with noise. We were just getting to sleep when the staff retired upstairs – you can hear every movement.
In the morning went down at 09.15hhrs, to the breakfast room, only to be told breakfast was being served outside in the courtyard! Had to return upstairs to get a coat and jumper. Seems the staff are too busy getting the room ready for lunch. Paid our bill but neither the manager or staff asked if we had enjoyed our stay or even say goodbye.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback after your recent stay at the Old Crown. We appreciate your detailed review and are pleased to hear that you enjoyed certain aspects of your stay, particularly your experience in the Courtroom and the quality of the food during your first dinner. However, we are sorry to learn about the issues you encountered during your stay. Your comments regarding the wine service have been noted, and we will ensure our staff receive additional training to improve their attention to detail and service standards in this area. We were fully booked in the restaurant, with a band on in the Crown Bar and a courtyard full of drinkers on a busy summers evening. It is very hard to nail things 100% of the time, but I hope you can see from our past reviews that our service is usually impeccable. We also apologise for the confusion and delay you experienced at breakfast. The breakfast was served in the Wine Bar and Courtyard as our restaurant was fully booked the night prior for a tasting menu party of 90, which included a band. After the party finished, we simply did not have the manpower to put the room back in time for breakfast. Given it was a sunny day, the courtyard seemed like a pleasant alternative. We will work to ensure that such situations are better managed in the future. Regarding your second night in the Deluxe Room, we regret that it did not meet your expectations. This room is a step up from our standard doubles, featuring a king-sized bed, and is priced significantly lower than our Suites or Executive rooms. We offer rooms ranging from £80 to £350 a night. Having stayed in the Court Room the first night, we understand the difference between the two would have been noticeable, but so is the price. When you booked, as stated, we did mention the difference, however, as we were fully booked, that was the only room available on your second night. Lastly, we are disappointed to hear about the lack of attentiveness from our staff upon your departure. Providing a warm and courteous send-off is crucial, and we will address this with our team immediately to prevent future occurrences. Thank you once again for your feedback. We hope you will consider re-booking with us in the future to provide you with the exceptional stay that we typically deliver. Best regards, Sebastiaan GM

Great food, great presentation, great service, very clean place. Badly overcharged over Sunday lunch which has set prices. No real front of house / management around. Refunded, but not the tip which is a set percentage service charge of the original amount, until challenged. Mistakes happen but how it got so wrong makes you wonder. Again, food particularly great, and service great.
Told no dogs categorically but then two or three dogs came into the room which is rather annoying! They were well behaved but, felt quite let down! Which is the policy? Again probably showing no management around.

Hi mark, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad you enjoyed your Sunday lunches, but apologise for the error with your bill. Regarding dogs, we had a discussion last Sunday morning, to allow dogs into the restaurant that lunchtime. As we had two large tables who had booked the bar area (dog friendly), and would have filled the entire trading space, leaving our locals no space to pop in for a drink. We are new, and have been trialing our policies to ensure they work best for us, and our consumer. I would personally like to apologise for your feeling of lack of management, I was on the Wine Bar that Sunday and only heard of your bill confusion when you came down after your meal. It was an unfortunate mistake regarding the bill The staff member who put your starters on chose them from the wrong section of the till (which had prices associated to them), rather than choosing from the set menu category (priced at 0), as courses and price is added by the till at the end on Sundays. I’ve put in steps to ensure the same mistake is not made in the future. We hope to welcome you back again soon. All the best, Sebastiaan
