We are situated in the picturesque town of Faringdon, an historic 16th Century market town steeped in history. The Old Crown has recently been beautifully restored by combining its historical charm with just a dash of Art Deco. Convenient transport links to destinations such as Oxford, London and Bristol and surrounding towns in the Cotswolds such as Burford, Bourton on the Water, Bath and Cheltenham. Shrouded in history, dining in The Ballroom is a memorable delight. Bespoke tasting menus inspired with seasonal local produce accompanied with modern culinary techniques enhance the overall experience. Curated by the multi award winning resident Head Chef, Samuel Squires, alongside him, talented senior kitchen staff team Daniel Catalano and Adam Forster. Staying within a 16th century inn, such as The Old Crown Coaching Inn is an experience to remember in one of our beautifully appointed rooms. You could choose stay in our sumptuous Courtroom Suite or one of other Superior rooms. You would also be able to enjoy cosying up in front of the inglenook fireplace roaring by the snug in our downstairs bar.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My mother 90 and my sister stayed in late December. I have been for lunch and dinner on several occasions now. My mother was extremely well looked after and they found the rooms most comfortable. They both enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. The team has worked very hard and the new bar and dining/ballroom are both impressive. Chef Sam Squires is exceptional . We went last week with friends for lunch, who had never been and were highly impressed by the level of service and delicious food. It is my go to place locally. Well done!

We went this week on comedy night which was packed with a great atmosphere in the bar before and after the show (which is on every month). Tapas style food beforehand was delicious - we had Korean chicken buns, fish goujons and a knockout cassoulet. We have enjoyed Saturday afternoon music in the courtyard and other lunches/dinners here - great food and vibe. Thank you.

I wanted to bring my girlfriend back to my home town to learn about my roots. I'd always been aware of the Old Crown of course, but had never visited. We stayed in the Court Room which certainly did not disappoint. It was warm and vary spacious, superbly furnished, and made for a brilliant weekend. The food was lovely and the staff charming. I will certainly return. it turned my black-and-white memories to full colour!

We were lucky enough to go to a wedding fair at the Old Crown Coaching in six months ago. It was so intimate and beautiful that we decided there and then that we would hold our wedding and reception there. From the very moment we chose our date, Sebastian and Isabel could not have made the organisation easier. Both my husband and I were second time around so we wanted things to be a little different. Every wish was answered and nothing was too much trouble. The young staff were enthusiastic, kind and genuinely seemed so happy for us. We decided, because of the weather, which could’ve gone either way, and the cobblestones in the courtyard, that we would like a marquee… not a problem Sebastian made this happen, so no twisted ankles on cobblestones and not an issue when a slight shower passed by. We really felt so lucky to have chosen this venue for our wedding and ceremony. The bridal suit is a must and, as a bride, waking up there having breakfast brought to my room and getting ready in such beautiful surroundings, was just perfect.

Wow what a hidden gem . The food was spot on blew all my taste buds away . The lady at breakfast was so friendly and chatty even recommended what to do for the day.so we took her advice and went to Oxford on the bus . On return we went to the bar for a drink the bar manager was so helpful and friendly. He even called us a taxi to take us to the Thames and arranged a return pick up after. We shall definitely return in November

Sunday lunch in the Ballroom restaurant. Excellent service and food. Well worth a visit. Fresh homemade breadrolls were amazing. Starters were trout and beetroot with whipped feta. Mains roast beef and chicken. Too full to have pudding but enjoyed a lovely bottle of merlot.

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the venue, the service or the food … and this was on a night when the menu was devised and cooked by the sous chefs. Go, I urge you! It’s the only way you’ll understand what I’m on about!

This is the perfect wedding venue. From the minute you arrive, as a guest the staff work as a terrific team and they make every single person who has attended the wedding feel special. What's more of you have an allergy or dietary needs, there is a member of staff on hand who ensures that you receive the correct dish. Everyone from the bar staff, waiting staff and the meeters and greeters, they all work in synch with one another. I had a suit jacket on and it was a hot day, so I took it off. A member of staff came over to me and showed me where I could hand the jacket. This is the level of customer service. I attended a beautiful wedding in this venue and it was enhanced by superb staff who really care about your experience. I would return here from Manchester in a heartbeat. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard at this wonderful wedding.

My friend lives locally so we had dinner at the tastefully appointed restaurant in the Ballroom on the Friday night. There were only two other couples dining that night, which was a shame as the food is excellent and the service enthusiastic, if a little unpolished. For fine dining, the menu competes with the best of London eateries but the prices are more reasonable - three courses for £45 at that quality seems a steal these days and you can buy a decent wine too for around £40. Presentation is attractive and you can have a drink at the bar at the bottom of the stairs before making your way to the Ballroom, so all in all a very enjoyable night out. This establishment deserves to do well!
