Ferryman’s Cottage is set within our grounds here at the Beetle and Wedge. Whatever the occasion may be, we have created the perfect retreat for anyone looking to treat themselves to a few nights away. The cottage has recently been renovated, creating a relaxing, and comfortable environment. Each suite has been given its own style by carefully selecting colors to complement its quaint setting while giving our guests an attractive but slightly quirky place to stay. The cottage has two ground floor bedrooms with private shower rooms that are dog friendly and two first floor bedrooms that have private bathrooms. All our rooms boast beautiful traditional furniture and the comfiest of bedding and equipped with Nespresso coffee machines, kettle, and a fridge with a selection of soft drinks. Just like The Beetle your experience with us is paramount and we do like to be slightly different. We can accommodate a range of any special requests you may have which will all be personally handled while you are with us.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Comfortable rooms, lovely location right by the river, great food in the resturant and really attentive and helpful staff. But please... add a couple of quid to the room rate and get some decent toilet tissue!

Just stayed a couple of nights here. Very welcoming and our room was lovely. All of the meals in the restaurant were excellent. Service was exemplary. Great walks along the river which is on the doorstep and so our dog loved it too!

We were at the Beetle & Wedge for the 3rd or 4th time last New Year's Eve. We'd been before for dinner B&B and really rated the accommodation and food. On NYE 4 of us checked into 2 of the 4 rooms. The rooms seemed nice enough when we checked in (we had a couple of drinks before dinner in the other room so didn't spend much time at all in ours). The dinner and celebrations that night were great. Food was excellent as usual. And they even sang happy birthday when they brought out a cake that my father in law had made. During the night I literally couldn't sleep at all because the stink of the room was nauseating. It smelled like the sewers. It was really overpowering. Even my husband noticed, and he can barely smell a thing on the best of days. So, the following morning, I felt really rough, and it wasn't due to celebratory drinks the night before! I complained about the smell to the staff and was told that they knew there had been an issue before in that room, they'd got a plumber in to fix the problem, and had HOPED that it was fixed. So they weren't certain that it had been fixed at all. And then they said that the bookings for the other 2 rooms had been cancelled, so why on earth did they put us in that room when they had 2 others available. They didn't even really apologise, let alone offer any sort of discount on the bill, or a good will gesture. Felt pretty let down, and disappointed in the end. Especially as we were there for my birthday celebrations, having missed out on a big birthday the previous year due to covid. As it's far from home, we would never go there without booking a room. Pretty sure we won't be risking doing that again. Such a shame, as previously it was one of our favourite overnight breaks for the two of us, and family get-togethers.

From arrival to departure I had a wonderful stay. The room was really clean and had everything you might need and all high quality. The Beetle and Wedge is a fabulous pub/restaurant and I had both a delicious dinner and breakfast with lovely views of the river. I was staying on my own and all the staff were really friendly and attentive which made my stay more fun. Thanks to you all.

Booked a nights stay great suite, evening meal was first class even though I was asked to move my car from the parking space outside the accommodation due to the arrival of a car club. First class night sleep ready for breakfast booked in for 0830. Arrived 8.35 two tables there already one of 6 and one of 2. Still hadn’t received the breakfast at 9.30 so had to leave, the young staff member was busy drinking coffee with her colleague in the room below. So very disappointed we had to wait so long and then end up with nothing, not good enough Victoria. Unable to have a coffee as the machine was broken, along with no plug in the bathroom basin…for the price of the room really poor I’m afraid to say. Will not stay again, attention to detail must be the watch word if you wish to have repeat business

Family of 4 staying in Willow and Olive suites. Very comfortable rooms. Willow especially has lots of light and an airy bathroom. Freestanding deep bath and good water pressure for the shower. Bed is soooo comfortable with fresh quality linen and pillows. Hospitality tray and fridge. All good. Breakfast is recommended. Lovely team, all helpful and friendly. Perfect to return to after a wonder dinner at Beetle and Wedge.

We moored up here on our boat on Tuesday and had a fab dinner. The scotch egg starter was amazing with a very interesting and unusual coleslaw followed by an incredible beetroot risotto. It was a great menu and my friends had an equally good dinner. Mac n cheese side dish was excellent. The staff were friendly and fun and we stayed overnight on our boat so excellent little stop over as the pub is right on the waterside. I couldn't fault the place at all and if I lived nearby I would be sure to come back.

We booked for dinner for the two of us. And arrived by boat at 6:00 pm. The entire river frontage was taken up by a plastic cruise boat. So we came alongside and asked - politely - to raft up outside [as is the universal custom]. And were refused; abruptly. So, with some difficulty, we moored nose-to to the end of the B&W frontage. Then, early on in the meal, were told that another plastic cruiser alongside was also objecting. So we had to break off our meal to re-moor, further downstream. The staff member we spoke with admitted that "he was not a boating person". Nor, it appeared, was anyone else there. The food - when we got to it - was good, though not memorable. But the evening was spoilt by two boorish landlubbers. And by the B&W's reluctance even to inform them about standard maritime custom. We'll not be going back to the Beetle & Wedge by boat.
