Crazy bear Hotel

When booking the room I was not aware by your website that the Thai restaurant & Thai massage was fully booked until after I made booking which is non refundable (we need to know before we made booking as we would not have booked)
Our accommodation was off site (customers need to be informed & notified that there is NO room service when room is offsite). We where in a room offsite with no lighting on the grounds in pitch black & to make matters worse the room internet phone did not work. Paying over £500 for accommodation with 1 bottle of water no ice or fridge with nothing in the room to eat & no room service etc is below standard. As for the security with your offsite accommodation I must say is also below standard. I feel that your website is NOT informative enough. We should have a way of knowing that your restaurant & Thai massage is fully booked BEFORE you accept customers bookings.
I must stress that I feel that this was not value for money & we were greatly let down. Your staff were great especially Leslie who was very helpful.
This is the only 5 star accommodation that I have been to that does not have room service & I am amazed in 2020.

Stayed recently for my husbands birthday.
Booked over the phone had to ring and email to chase up confirmation.
Great location. Very quiet easy to find set back from main road.
Check in quick and easy shown to room 8 which was beautiful but dark. Very romantic and intimate though. Comfortable bed & huge copper bath in the room.
Lovely bar but very busy and hot in the evening.
Thai restaurant small and a little cramped, very warm, food was beautiful well presented. Good portion sizes.
Beware when accepting waiters offer for water as £4.95 for a bottle not offered tap water. Great cocktails good range of drinks on offer.
Good nights sleep apart from window on ground floor is directly on the path to other areas and smoking area.
Continental breakfast was OK poor choice of cereal and cold meats sat on a warm bar.
Major downfall due to darkness of room and length of curtains is finding previous occupants used underwear in the curtains. Very apologetic reception staff and promptly dealt with. Bar bill and service charge taken off however this was only around 6% of cost of the room. Suppose we could have found worse!

We booked a one night stay in a suite through Groupon for my husbands 50th birthday, we've visited the bar / restaurant quite a few times over the years but never stayed.

We were allocated a garden suite 23 (a few mins drive up the road), we were taken there by staff in a car, out of 3 trips one person wore a mask, car could have done with a very good clean. We would have preferred a room with a bath but no big deal, the air con was very welcome. In the Groupon deal we had a glass of champagne on arrival & a free cocktail both of which were nice. There was a card wishing my husband happy birthday in the room, nice touch.

We ate in the English restaurant, food was very nice, although both tables either side of us seemed to have complaints. We ordered the 7 course taster menu at £62.50 each, the waitress advised us we would need a side to go with this so we both ordered chips. This meant that with my aubergine pasta course I had a pot of chips, completely unnecessary up-selling.

The mens toilets in the restaurant are really starting to look tired now, the wall paper below the hand drier is black with mould and could do with replacing.

Breakfast was nice, we had continental served in the bar.

I'm still unsure about the £20 ish charge for the wine on our bill when we had a free bottle in the deal, it was explained away at check out. The other slight shock was the 13.5% service charge (our fault for not noticing it earlier).

Overall nice stay for a special occasion but really glad we had it on a deal.

Ok it is pricey, but I got a great deal through Groupon to help easy the pain on my bank balance.
Upon first laying eyes on this hotel I was as crazy as the bear it’s named after. To check in on an old red double decker bus was such a great unique welcoming!
Gorgeous looking building, small but homely bar area which was well decorated in keeping with the “quirky” theme surrounding the hotel.
My room was in a separate building but had use of a chauffeur driven car to ferry us to and from the room whenever I required. I had a deluxe room which was dressed in crushed velvet, immaculately cleaned and presented, with a bottle of chilled champagne awaiting my arrival.
I had the Thai signature menu and I don’t think I’ve ever eaten food as nice as this! The staff were polite, friendly, attentive but not over crowding. The grounds were a beautiful sight to behold and I wish I could afford to visit frequently! I will definitely be returning for another Crazy Bear experience.
Fully deserving of a 5/5 rating!

Probably the worst stay I have ever had. I think when you are paying so much for one evening expectations are high and I was nothing but disappointed.

Staff were careless and didn’t make us feel welcome at all. We had to find our own room with no help from staff.

The room was absolutely tiny and nothing like advertised in the pictures. The mirror was inconveniently placed and the overall layout of the small room was just awful.

The bathroom absolutely stunk it felt dirty and again very small.

Loud music around the gardens was blaring unnecessarily on a slow Sunday evening, and when we asked them to turn it off the managers response was basically “no”. I had the worst nights sleep. We felt so unwelcome and lost.

The Thai chicken starter was dry, lamb main was okay but again not great, desert was nothing special.

We had breakfast included so usually at most hotels that includes continental and then hot breakfast (bacon sausage egg etc) that was not the case here. Cereal fruit and yogurt only. Additional charge if you wanted what you would usually expect for breakfast.

Absolutely gutted with our stay, and would never return or recommend. Please do not waste your money there are much nicer hotels where you can get real value for your money.

We felt completely ripped off, the place felt it needed a bit of love the staff need a course in how to provide customer service and make guests feel welcome. Reception was an attempt to be quirky but just felt small and dirty.

Spend your money elsewhere !!

We've been to both Stadhampton and Beaconsfield and would recommend Beaconsfield far more due to the luxurious rooms, restaurants, fantastic service and location. Beaconsfield has so much going on around it and the deco is amazing. Breakfast and the restaurants are beautiful. Stadhampton is quite far out and the rooms aren't close to the main hotel. Also paid £5 per bottle of water and a hefty service charge. Most of the food on the set menu you have to pay more for, we spent £14 on 2 small bowls of rice. Most of the staff were lovely, particularly the reception staff, the rooms were great there too tho. Stadhampton also give you a coffee machine whereas there are no drinks in Beaconsfield. Would recommend as a one-off holiday if reduced price on Groupon/wowcher. Would never pay full price tho as it wouldn't be worth it (premier inn give you the same soap strapped to the wall & a simple shower, only with a bigger, quieter room and drinks facilities), nothing compared to the amazing hotels the UK has to offer for the same price

Good value Groupon deal (£275 for 2 adult one night stay in a basic (original) room with signature Thai menu, bottle of champagne and continental breakfast). Great value break. Food was amazing, location was wacky (as expected) and a great little “zoo” of lamas, pigs, chickens and goats next to the farm shop. It was really the service that let it down. The staff seemed unhappy (we witnessed a rather aggressive manager/owner stripping off a gardener which, if typical, might be a reason for unhappy staff). Just lacked a certain care and attention with a continual need to seek assistance. Not shown around, found it difficult to find lunch, 1pm arrival too early to receive the glass of champagne enjoyed by others a little later and nowhere to sit inside the hotel (lounge closed), only outside (we were advised that inside would only be opened if it rained !).Red wine served at lunch, despite ordering Chardonnay, returned it and had to remind the waitress to replace it. Egg put on ceaser salad rather than Nicose salad. Room was very compact, no chair, bed up against window. Don’t get me wrong, this being a Groupon booking, it was exceptional value but there’s no way it’s worth the £500 plus plus that a direct booking would cost. In this day and age, service is everything and at these prices, needs improvement.

We had 6 guests stay in either the suites or double rooms following our wedding day and every single room did not disappoint. The staff are lovely and really look after you. The rooms themselves are wonderfully quirky, clean and luxurious. The hotel itself has seen investment over covid with new furnishings creating lovely places to chill and enjoy. Food and drinks were well worth the money - we were told it was the best food people had ever had at a wedding!

We paid £360 through Voyage Prive for a suite, a glass of champagne on arrival, a bottle in the room and dinner in the Thai Restaurant. The check-in in the red bus is quirky and cool, but the reception is full of bits of paper stacked up and scattered across the desks — it’s a bit messy and unprofessional. The girl who checked us in was lovely, but was wearing super casual clothing. We thought it was weird the staff weren’t wearing uniforms at a five star hotel. We stayed in Suite 4 which had an amazing infinity bath that filled from the ceiling — this was definitely the highlight of our stay. The room itself was small and a little tired, we had paid extra to stay in a suite and we didn’t think the room matched this description. The sink in the bathroom didn't have a tap and just squirted from a small (and slightly rusted) hole under the mirror. The dinner at the Thai restaurant was really good, some of the best Thai I’ve had in the UK, but we felt the wait staff did try to upsell us on the drinks and sides (which weren’t included in the meal). With drinks and one side, we’d spent another £85. Cabs to and from the station cost £60, plus the tickets from London Paddington were £40. Total cost was £545 for one night away an hour outside London. We simply didn’t think the rooms, facilities or experience matched this price. We could have spent a weekend in Lisbon or another European city for the same spend! Disappointed.

Don’t believe the hype about this quirky place , it’s so over rated and over priced , the kitchen is like Faulty Towers . Complete joke this, we ordered our evening meal at 7.15pm , it was 2 hours before the main course was served . The Lamb cutlet was awful so plate returned to kitchen for Leg of Lamb . Eventually the Leg of Lamb was served , this was no better and very fatty and tasteless , the roast potatoes were triple cooked / re-heated burnt , the yorkshire puddings were like lumps of concrete , no gravy was served and  no hot replacement cauliflower cheese  side dishes were re- served .By now it was getting very late so my wife returned her plate, and my plate was returned only partially eaten .
We were both extremely disappointed with Dinner . The meal was not enjoyable at all and completely spoiled our stay .
We can not understand with the reputation the Hotel has and the high standards why they had no controls in place for food to be delayed this long and more worrying the quality .

Breakfast is a rip off : only continental included minimum of £14 for any hot cooked breakfast dishes or more .

Drinks are a rip off £16 for a G+T : they want £25 corkage if you are found bringing your own wine into your room .

One of the waiters wore same clothing 2 days running he was scruffy ; stains all down his trousers .

We complained to management but they didn’t even give a the courtesy of a reply .

For us we would rather stay in a modern minimalist hotel such as Malmaison and save our money . Suffice to say we won’t be returning ever again to Crazy over rated Bear

Not sure which one we stayed in but they have a number of cottages in the village, the one we stayed in was out the front door, walked up to the main road and then on the right, it was only 1-2 minutes walk. Aircon didn’t work and got eaten by what I hope was mosquitoes and dread to think it could have been bedbugs but there is lots in the news about it.
