We stayed here for 1 night en route to travelling to the South, it is wonderful. Very quiet, no mad crowds and a great base within easy driving distance of the cotswold gems.
The accommodation was great, immaculately clean, comfortable bed, good tea and coffee, decent WiFi, good wardrobe space and bathroom/toilet all good, no issues.
The staff, so attentive, ultra friendly and welcoming, they can’t do enough for you. All with big cheery smiles, they make you feel great and at home.
The food, wow ! We ate here for dinner, fillet steak and accompaniments for me and venison wellington the size of a Cornish pastie for my wife. Starters were mushrooms in blue cheese sauce with artisan bread for me and salt and pepper squid for my wife. We shared a white chocolate cheesecake. This was washed down with two bottles of house Rioja. The price came in at over £100 so not cheap but so worth it. It was all delicious and cooked to perfection.
When we asked could we take the remainder of our wine back to the room we were asked did we want fresh glasses for that. The little touches make all the difference.
Breakfast also amazing, full English for me, poached eggs and bacon on toast for my wife. Selection was good, pastries, cereals, yoghurt, smoked salmon if you fancied it.
Tables were setup in the restaurant excellent with loads of space between each table given the current concerns with Covid-19.
All in all, we loved it, continuing our journey with a full heart and an even fuller belly.
Well done guys, great place, we will be back !

When you travel alone you notice more.

What I saw was a strong team with a clear direction both inside and out of the kitchen, including the housekeepers. They understood what their customers need, and they not only met, but regularly exceeded my (high) expectations.

The food is exceptional..... I had steak for dinner twice and it cut like butter (it was as good as Dexter beef or Argentinian steak) I tried three of the many accompanying sauces and they were heavenly.

Unpretentious, value for money and friendly (not invasive) service.

I feel like I shouldn’t be writing this review because I don’t really want anyone else to know how good the pub with rooms is, but I think it’s only fair to acknowledge a business that genuinely works hard to provide wonderful food from an interesting menu and a first class service. The rooms are more than adequate, very clean and all are located around a quadrangle of grass.

Oh, by the way, lots of places say they’re doggy friendly and really aren’t! Everyone at The Bird in the Hand is sincerely Doggy Friendly. Bruce, my border terrier, loved it too! However, they don’t allow dogs to impact on the whole restaurant and are only allowed in an area with 4 tables.

I still think writing this is a mistake because you may book a room that I might want lol 🤣

Travelled from Belfast 21st-25th august

We had booked this accommodation for
the traditional
English pub setting and free areas for the children to play and we were not disappointed . Our family of 5 adults and a 2 & 4 yr old had 2 double rooms and a family room .
I had contacted them a week before requiring a travel cot and it was waiting in the room when we checked in .
We arrived late evening and where greeted with a friendly atmosphere and staff extremely helpful . The business following COVID regulations with social distance where evident and lots of sanitiser provided in each area of the check in & bar . The rooms where very spacious and with tea/coffee provided in each room . Lots of parking spaces available on site .
The breakfast provided was excellent with hot menu available .
We had 3 dinners during our stay and I speak for all our group when I say the food was outstanding , one of the best services and cooked meals
we have had in any hotel before , top marks to the chef and staff .
Prices for alcohol & food were reasonable and we have no complaints at all
about our stay . The children loved the open space and the staff interacted with them in a friendly manner and our grand daughter just loved their dog Louie that came to visit us a few times through out our stay .
I would highly recommend The bird in hand for a stay or even a meal . One recommendation would be for plastic child friendly plates / cups etc.
We would not hesitate to visit again in the future ..

Thank You all for an enjoyable stay .

From the start we were impressed by the cleanliness and the quality of the furnishing and linen. The safety of guests seems to be paramount, and great care is taken with cleanliness, which is very reassuring at this time. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Our two dogs were welcome and we never felt that they were in the way or unwanted. After 8 lovely days we felt totally at home and really did not want to leave. Did I mention the big towels? It is lovely to have a guest towel that actually wraps around one! The rooms are accessible from a central open courtyard which means minimal contact with other guests.

I stayed here with a friend prior to visiting Blenheim Palace. We just wanted somewhere to sleep and something decent to eat as we were arriving late and were off first thing in the morning. Bird in Hand more than delivered both of these. There was a friendly welcome, spotless and comfortable room, the dinner menu was not your usual run of the mill and varied enough to cater for everyone. We had the salmon en croute which was perfectly cooked and substantial too. Breakfast was also varied with cooked and continental options. You made your own tea and coffee and there were teapots and cafetieres for this which was a nice touch. Our room was in a little grassy courtyard next to the inn and it was disability accessible. The courtyard would be lovely to sit in if the weather was warmer. It was very quiet as the inn is on a country road away from houses and heavy traffic, and it looks picture perfect. We booked through Booking.com and I couldn't believe the price for what we got. I would definitely recommend.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. This lovely inn is set in beautiful countryside and the seating areas in the inn are wonderfully laid out and very welcoming. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. The accommodation is detached from the inn in a courtyard setting and our standard double room was large and well furnished and beautifully clean and comfortable. We definitely want to return here next year for another visit.

We had a lovely night’s stay, including dinner and breakfast next morning. We didn’t initially see much to be excited by in the ‘pub grub’ style menu but that just goes to show how much we know, because the food was incredible. My husband had the monkfish special and I had the best pie I’ve ever had - so brilliant that I wished I hadn’t had lunch (so I would have had more room for the excellent chips that came with it). And breakfast the next day... it was just a shame we had lunch booked in Oxford and couldn’t eat a full cooked option, because what we saw on other people’s tables looked and smelled amazing. They were very good at getting us much smaller versions of items on the menu which was much appreciated. The room was also very clean and comfortable. My only suggestion to this wonderful establishment would be to expand their playlist and try to move on from the George Ezra obsession - but repetitive music was a small price to pay for such a lovely time. Thank you very much for having us, we’d love to return!

We joined a big group of 22 last weekend in the the large dining room at the back of the restaurant. The food was delicious and served with enthusiasm and a smile by the staff. The bedrooms in the courtyard are very nicely decorated in contemporary style, the bathroom had a lovely big bath and was spotlessly clean, as one would expect. The bed was extremely comfortable too.

Right from the start the place felt very welcoming. Staff were very friendly and the pub is gorgeous!! I stayed here with 2 friends sharing 1 room. The rooms are very spacious and have everything you need for your stay. The pub is in a great location for you to go out and explore the Cotswold and surroundings. 1 thing to mention is how amazing the food is!! The choice of breakfast if perfect to set you up for the day but the evening meals are 2 die for, that good we ate in there 2 nights, be warned though its very popular and tables get booked up fast as people come from all over to eat here.
This place really is a little gem and I can't wait to return.

Chose this location for a family gathering after reading excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The bedrooms are arranged around a central courtyard to the side of the pub and are large and spotlessly clean. The facilities for dining were exactly what we wanted with several private dining areas for large groups. The food, as other reviewers have pointed out, is of a high standard and the menu has plenty of variety. The staff do their utmost to give you a memorable experience. First class place which we hope to return to.
