Our recent overnight stay at The Wynnstay Hotel was extremely enjoyable. We travelled by motorcycle and were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who enquired if we'd had a good ride there. We were directed to our room which was very nicely decorated - comfy chairs, comfy bed, plenty of pillows, good sized tv, and a bathroom with everything we needed. Down to the bar for a much needed beer where we could sit outside and enjoy the last of the sun. We had booked a table at the hotel restaurant intending to have their hanging kebabs but when we checked the menu it had changed. Because it was Sunday they do a reduced menu including Sunday roasts - none of it to our liking - so we cancelled the booking. If we had eaten there I think it would have been very good as our breakfast next morning was excellent. Cereal, fresh fruits, juice, tea/coffee and your choice of a variety of cooked breakfasts. Service throughout was very efficient and friendly and we'd certainly recommend this hotel. The hotel also has a gym and swimming pool but we didn't get chance to use them. We had booked this as a deal through TravelZoo and it included tickets for entry to Powys Castle and gardens which was also really interesting and enjoyable.

We had a spa day from buy a gift as a present for Christmas. We picked this location out of several and were glad we did. Staff all so polite and willing to help. On arrival we got showed round and they gave us robes/towels and slippers. We used the facilities which included steam room, sauna, hot tub and swimming pool. The massages were lovely just wish we’d booked a longer one! After our massage we were hungry and asked if there was anywhere to get food the lady behind reception was amazing and brought us food over from their restaurant so we could eat them in the relax room in our robes rather than having to get changed to go and eat. Lovely day and would definitely return:))

Staff were very professional and friendly; food was top class. Room was very comfortable albeit a bit cramped. Spa facilities were very welcome, accessible and easy to use, with staff being very friendly and helpful again, even ordering some drinks from the bar to the spa. Building is old and may require some external maintenance. Ate in both the restaurant and cafe/bar.

We stayed for one night on a Secretescapes DBB offer. Unfortunately, there was no mention of a refurb on the Secretescapes website.

I’m sure this hotel will be lovely once it’s completed, but at the moment it’s disjointed and soulless. In the main hotel building, there is a small reception desk, manned by one person, that is located next to the stairs that lead up to the bedrooms. There is also a lovely dining room that is used to serve breakfast, but sadly not dinner?? The rest of the hotel is being refurbished and there are signs everywhere saying wet paint!

Bedroom
The bedrooms have already been refurbished and are really lovely. They are decorated and dressed in keeping with the period of the building. There is a nespresso coffee machine as well as a good selection of Teapigs teabags , decaffeinated as well as caffeinated coffee bags, Cadbury hot chocolate, biscuits and bottles of still water. There is also a bottle of lavender and camomile calming pillow spray and a notebook and pen.

Bathroom
The bathroom has also been refurbished and everything is nice and fresh with full sized Organic Lifestyle shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. Robes and slippers are also provided.

Dinner
The restaurant is currently being refurbished so dinner was served in a bar next door called Wilson’s. Although the food was nice enough, the bar was very basic and wasn’t what we had hoped for on a hotel night away. There was a large TV on the wall showing a soap opera and most people in there were having drinks. There was only 3 tables having food and unfortunately, the table across from us had some youngsters on it and one of them was extremely drunk/high and was very loud and was swearing a lot. It really wasn’t the sort of ambience you expect when having dinner in a hotel. However, I have to mention the waitress, Claudia, who was so cheerful, friendly and efficient- she really lifted the atmosphere and is an absolute credit to the hotel!

Breakfast
Breakfast was served in a lovely room and would have provided a more fitting dining experience if dinner had also been served in this room! We were welcomed by the wonderful Claudia, who has had 2 mentions because she made such a positive impact on our stay! In addition to help yourself fruit juice and cereals, there was a menu with a good selection of served items to choose from. The breakfasts were well presented and very tasty.

Spa
The spa is fairly small but it had a decent sized pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. It was very quiet in there with just 4 other people using the facilities so it was very relaxing. There was also a gym which we didn’t use and they also offer beauty treatments which we didn’t use either.

Overall, we had a very mixed experience. We enjoyed the spa, the food was good and the bedrooms were lovely. However, while it is in the process of being refurbished, it is lacking any ambience and serving dinner in Wilson’s in our opinion, was a big mistake!

Called in for something to eat. The place
has had a re-fit.

Ordered sandwiches off the “artisanal” list so expecting a decent sandwich for my wife and myself.

One steak, blue cheese and mushroom and one “open avocado, roasted pepper and hummus” wrap.

Both came with fries but in my experience that usually means six fries in a small wire basket cage which go cold before they hit the table; so I ordered a side of fat chips.

The good bit - there was a decent serving of fries served in a normal metal pot so they stayed warm. The steak was well cooked.

The average bit. Not sure the steak sandwich had blue cheese in it. We had to ask for the order of fat chips half way through eating the meal.

The poor bit. Not sure there was any avocado in the wrap. What the “open” refers to in the description, it was just a wrap and a VERY small one at that.

Tesco meal deal wraps are much bigger and tastier. It was cut in half into two 2 inch long pieces.

All well and good but I paid £10 for something which could not compete with a meal deal.

Be aware also that one half of the restaurant is tee-total.

We booked the Wynnstay hotel for one night after meeting up with family. We booked this hotel as the rooms looked really nice on the website, it had parking and the reviews seemed ok.

On arrival and after parking our car, we were booked in by a lovely receptionist, who gave us a friendly welcome and told us our room was 110 .When we went to our room, i was not impressed at all. The room looked dark, there was a big comfy bed and a modern bathroom ,there was a small table with one comfy chair and a desk and with a big chair .Would be nice as seeing the room was for two if they had two comfy chairs. There was window that half was blocked out from the view ,which was a good job as the view we had were the fire escape steps, where anyone could look in. While taking all this room there was this almighty noise ,it was like the room was vibrating from it . I stood on the chair to look out of the window and I could see a flat roof and the kitchen air vents right outside our window . I told my husband to go down and ask for us to be moved cause at £100 a night, this wasn't good enough, not just for us but for anyone else who ends up in a room like this . On his return he said the reception didn't see at all surprised to see him asking to be moved and she upgraded us to the executive room in the coach house. which was like a different world to our original room and we were grateful that they moved us

The hotel itself is nice enough, we didn't have an evening meal but did go to the bar for a drink and the one waiter was really friendly.

Breakfast was really good and the eggs royal we ordered was the best i ever had .The one down point is that it would be nice if they had a section where we could help ourselves to cereal, fruit juice and pastries , instead of asking for it and then waiting for the waitress to come round to each table with the juices.

Would I stay here again ? if I know I would have a room away from the kitchen vents and looks like the website pictures and the friendly staff then I would but I wouldn't recommend it to family or friends to stay here. I have based this review on the first room we were given

Many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. We value all customer feedback and thank you for your observations. Over the next several months all our rooms will be having major renovations. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the position of some of the rooms or the kitchen vents which are a necessity. In the future, we shall look at making guests aware of their rooms situation.

Received a Spa Day for 2 as a gift. Travelled 2 hours and was disappointed throughout. On arrival the robe I received had a used plaster in the pocket, the flip flops were not new and had been used previously (luckily I had taken my own) The pool area is small and was fairly busy when we arrived. There is only 3 loungers which is ridiculous due to the amount of people there! We were not shown the facilities so did not know where the sauna/steam rooms were? Lockers in the changing rooms mostly don’t work, either the locks are missing so unless you have a padlock they can’t be used, or the locks are broken. We booked an afternoon tea for lunch and got stopped when walking over in our robes only to be told we have to get changed as the public use the restaurant! The treatments were lovely and was really the only positive of the day. Afternoon Tea is definitely not worth £16.95 per person!!

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 2 night stay. Although there are tradesmen there at present working on the hotel refurbishment this did not detract from our enjoyment. Our room was a newly refurbished one with beautiful furnishings. It was spacious and comfortable. The full size bathroom products were plentiful and pleasing to use. Added touches were pillow spray and bottled water. There was a coffee machine as well as coffee and tea sachets. We had 2 delicious breakfasts with cereals on offer as well as cooked breakfast. The only negative for me was no provision of fresh fruit at breakfast time but this is a minor complaint. We also had a Sunday lunch with all the trimmings which again was delicious. We made use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna which is a very relaxing area. We did not have to pay any parking charges as this is the policy if you book direct with the hotel. We found the price very reasonable for what we got and would recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

Stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday. The hotel is very welcoming & the staff are very friendly & attentive.

Chris, Lucy & Claudia made my stay extra special. Nothing was too much trouble.

We ate in the restaurant both nights & were not disappointed the lamb koftas were very tasty & Ceasar salad was the best I had tasted. My husband tucked into pate which was delicious & chicken with goat's cheese wrapped in parma ham was great The second night, the risotto was fantastic while my husband ordered T-bone steak which was cooked to perfection. The wine list has a great selection and all well described.

Our room looked out over the bowling green. It was very quiet. The room was spacious & tastefully decorated with a big bathroom. The bed & pillows were comfy. I am very fussy & the room was faultless.

The gym is extremely well-equipped, it has cross trainers, treadmills & bikes as well resistance machines & free weights. The instructors were friendly. The changing room area & showers were clean & tidy.

It was such a shame the pool & spa closed at the end of December as this would have been the cherry on the cake for my stay. I was not the only disappointed customer as someone enquired about Spa Days to be told the same. Think this is a missed opportunity as I am sure residents would not mind paying an additional sum to use these facilities. I know this is not the decision of the hotel managers at The Wynnstay.

Despite the closure of the spa, I enjoyed everything about this hotel & would definitely recommend it and would stay here again without hesitation.

We stayed for two nights at The Wynnstay, on a Travelzoo deal, which included tickets for entry to Powis Castle. I have to say that this one of the very best deals we have enjoyed over many years. For me, everything about this Hotel is absolutely excellent! The free car park at the rear of the hotel is spacious and secure. Check in was seamless, thanks to the lovely Claire, who is the consummate professional. A small issue with our room was sorted with the minimum of fuss. All areas of the hotel are comfortable, and the decor is beautiful. Our room was immaculately clean, with lots of extras to make our stay even more enjoyable. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom (particularly the shower) was good, with big fluffy white towels. The breakfasts are top quality, with plenty of choice. Evening dinner was also a treat. Excellent choices, and all totally delicious! The service provided by the wonderful staff is excellent. Attention to every detail is given, without being intrusive. In fact, all the staff throughout the hotel (managed by the excellent Chris), are friendly and thoroughly professional, and all have the ability to make you feel most welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, it’s an experience to be enjoyed. We also enjoyed the town of Oswestry, and the lovely surrounding area. We hope to return one day, in the not too distant future.
