Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved this place going to try to come back with wife. Decorated to high spec and spacious. Great food and prices. Amazing garden for groups of people but not a place for rowdy teenagers. Surprised it was only 3 star as I would give it at least a 4 star and I have stayed in hundreds of hotels world wide. Friendly and very pleasant staff. Service with a smile

Visited as a family of six adults. Searched website for menus, as the website was still advertising Soring fayre should have expected problems. Two burgers very nice. One steak nice. One kedgeree not really able to identify it as a kedgeree. Two very bad stringy, unable to cut it with steak knives. One struggled to eat it. Not a nice experience!. The other so bad it was sent back. The replacement steak was no better but by now we were quite embarrassed. Puddings ... well, we ordered cheese cake but what arrived, we found it impossible to identify it. Never had a cheese cake with filo pastry and no biscuit base before. Now for the bill! One returned steak not charged for. This isnt really the point. The steak person went home hungry. On checking the bill we realised there were puddings and drinks on the bill that were not ours. We then got a revised bill missing the drinks we had received. On informing the waitress the third bill arrived .... at last a correct one. Would I recommend this place? No. It appeared to be a shambles.

Thank you for submitting your review. I had already seen a similar review from you some two weeks ago on google. I apologise that there was a mistake on our website that stated Spring rather than Summer (or Soring as you state) but the menu had been updated and was a genuine oversight and in mho not something to dam a business with and also not the menu that you ate from that night - you ate from our Summer Menu rather than the saver menu and the Summer Menu is on our website as Summer. With regard to the steak, I can only apologise for the "stringy" steak and this is something we will take up with our supplier and I feel sure that these would have been removed from your bill as is our custom if there are any complaints. We do not have a kedgeree on our menu rather we have a scotch egg wrapped in kedgeree and then crumbed and fried, this is clearly stated on our menu as a Scotch Egg not a serving of kedgeree. Again the cheese cake is a Baklava cheesecake and as such is not served with a biscuit base but with filo pastry and again it quiet clearly states on our menu that it is a Baklava cheesecake. Now to the bill, I apologise that there were issues with giving you the correct bill, unfortunately mistakes happen and it seemed that this happened to you twice and I thank you for your honesty with regard to the drinks that did not appear on your bill. Would you return, no - that is absolutely your prerogative but on looking through your other reviews it does appear there are very few places that match up to your exacting standards. I firmly believe that criticism is a good thing and business can learn from it but I also believe that it should be tempered with fairness, especially when voicing your criticisms on an open forum such as this. So in summary, I apologise that you didn't enjoy your steaks, but we did change them and knock the cost off the bill and the person who left hungry could have ordered anything else on our menu to compensate. The cheesecake and the kedgeree appear to be someone not reading the menu properly. The bill was a genuine mistake on our part and I apologise for that too. regards Kara (Owner)

Have visited this hotel many times in the past and it has always been first class. However the improvements to the outdoor areas have improved things further. There is now a covered restaurant area and many more covered drinks places. The gardens are great for walking the dog. I saw the new barn area and wedding venue which looked terrific.

Had an incredibly awful evening dinner at the Sweeney in early September. Having booked a table for 4 a fortnight before, we were surprised when we turned up to be told that they were not serving dinner! We queried and the waiter returned saying that actually they would give us dinner after all … it went from bad to worse from there! Very weird and disjointed service, two inedible meals which had to be sent back, lack of care all round and no management in sight. The worst dining experience I think I’ve ever experienced. I wrote a private note to the manager as I thought this was an unfortunate one-off and to avoid writing this public Trip Advisor review, but he has chosen not to reply. Beware.

Excellent Food and setting! We’ve been before for a wedding but not for dining. Booked at the last minute and so glad we got in. The food was so good and tasty. Drinks are a good price which was surprising for a country hotel. We both had burgers and asked for gravy for the chips, the taste was immense.

Excellent friendly staff. Immaculate hotel and grounds. Plenty of outdoor seating of many types. Our dog loved the wooded area for a short walk. An ideal base for visiting tourist attractions. Lovely venue for a function.

Not overly impressed with Sunday lunch ! Desserts were very expensive and the Choux caramel was very similar to the Yorkshire pudding ! Dry and frankly inedible .the pork was so strong of garlic it spoilt the meal !

I'm sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your Sunday lunch at the Sweeney, as you can read below in other reviews many people rate our Sunday lunch hightly. I am surprised by your comment on our choux bun mainly because is if filled to the brim with freshly whipped cream and then served with a sauce. I have also been on the website of other venus in the area and we are cheaper than most or on a par for our deserts which are all homemade. I'm sorry you found the garlic the stuffed pork overpowering and I shall pass on your comments to the kitchen. Regards Team Sweeney

Our first visit to The Sweeney and it definitely won’t be our last! Everything was perfect! We came for a relaxing weekend and went home thoroughly refreshed. We can highly recommend room 1, the room is beautiful, the jacuzzi bath was a lovely surprise, and the views from our room were spectacular! The food was delicious, my husband said the roast beef was the best he’s ever had! A huge thank you to ‘Team Sweeney’ keep up the good work!

First time visiting and we were greeted by two young waiters who were very polite and were happy for us to sit just where we wanted in the "veranda" area. Sean then came and said hello once we were seated. A good Sunday lunch and then a walk around the grounds was lovely. It looks like they have plenty of rooms for functions/eating and we're planning to return early September.
