Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Park House Hotel captivates with its traditional charm and is often lauded for its pristine cleanliness, particularly in the rooms and bathrooms. Guests have enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and a pleasant breakfast setting, although disruptions during events have been a downside for some. While the service has garnered mixed reviews, ranging from commendable to less impressive, the amenities are generally appreciated for their comfort.
However, opinions are divided on the rooms, which are clean and cozy but sometimes fall short regarding temperature control, noise levels, and modernity. The value proposition also receives varied responses, with concerns about pricing and the need for updates.

Detailed Reviews
We used the hotel as a base whilst attending the Commonwealth Ganes at the NEC. We had an executive king room, our son had a double to himself. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The mattress was too soft for me, but that is just personal preference. The bathroom in our room was spacious, modern and had been refitted fairly recently. The old house has character. Unlike many hotels in old buildings, the floors in the corridors and rooms did not squeak as you walked over them, which is one of my pet hates, therefore the hotel was quiet and we were not disturbed by people walking past the room or above us. There is a bar with a lovely garden outside we’re you can sit. The beer prices were about the same as pub prices, although a pint of lemonade was just over £4, which seems to mirror the high prices for soft drinks in pubs nowadays. The restaurant was nice and our food arrived quickly, a decent buffet breakfast the following morning. All the staff from the reception, bar and restaurant were very friendly. The small town centre with other pubs and restaurants is a short walk away. We got both rooms for £109, for the price a perfectly acceptable hotel, I would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

Room in outside cottage style buildings, dark and dismal, washbasin tap dripping, wash basin plug hole very very slow emptying, loose toilet seat, towel rail cold (we found the switch that the housekeeper couldn’t). Had dog so had to sit in the bar for evening meal and breakfast. Evening food overpriced and breakfast entailed a walk along the corridor to the buffet and as the door to stairs was open it was extremely cold. The meal in evening took a long time to arrive as I think “chef” was dealing with a function. The poor girl at the bar was overworked and queues got longer and all I wanted to do was pay the bill. Paid £60 for two dogs to stay, not sure why no amenities for them. Paid a lot more than is quoted on the booking sites so don’t phone the hotel direct the way I did! I don’t know when they got four stars but it can’t have been recently.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. Overall I loved this stay. The staff are all lovely, and the communal areas (bar, restaurant) are beautiful.
My room was very clean, although its age was showing. Some mould on the bathroom sealant (the type that is impossible to clean off), a missing spacer/rest on the toilet lid, and whenever the toilet was flushed, the cistern lid would raise! But a powerful flush, which is always welcome in a hotel.
The bed was so comfortable, I slept better than I do at home. There was plenty of tea coffee and milk in the room, also biscuits.
The wifi was excellent - best hotel in Shifnal for wifi.
Housekeeping staff are also brilliant - I was 'Do not Disturb' until gone noon, and still my room was pristine when I returned that night. I've stayed in much more expensive hotels where I would have missed housekeeping in this situation.
The only real problem for me was the temperature. To be comfortable I had to turn the radiator off and leave the window open. I was on the second floor, and so presumably was getting the heat from the rest of the hotel. I suspect the hotel generally heats to around 28 degrees or more - it was positively tropical, so this may be a bonus for some people, especially in winter.
But this is overall a great hotel for the price, and was quiet at night, even during the party season. It's certainly my first choice for staying in the area.

I took 49 of my club members to this hotel for a one night over stay on the 5/6 of December 24 . Our first problem came at our evening meal which I had emailed our menu choices plus rang the hotel 24 hours before. We had several people who were informed that they had run out of their choice of starter followed by not having enough deserts either . The same evening we’re hosting the local Rock Choir Christmas dinner . Just an hour later and serving the same food . So no shortage there then ! The following morning we were put in a room far too small for our group with nowhere near enough tables . The manageress told me that I and others could take our food through to the bar area which some had to do and eat at Low Level Tables . Which was a disgrace especially as we are all in our 70/80/90s At the same time they were feeding the rock choirs over nighters in the spacious dinning hall .
I the discovered people complying A about black mould in their rooms and B that the heating was off in their rooms
This is by far the worst treatment we have ever had in all the years our group has gone away together. Complaints to the management seem to fall on deaf ears We requested that the case could be brought down to reception for our 91 year old gentleman who they had put in the farthest room from any lifts . The manager said they would do this if the could spare the time . Needles to say they didn’t even bother to do this .
I was disgusted in the way we were treated and it seems they far more interested in local groups not visitors . I discovered black mould in my room (see video attached )
My advice for ant group organising trip to avoid this hotel

Over rated, I recently stayed here and yes it was very quiet and I was in one the "bungalows" at the side, the room was O.K(ish) the carpet felt damp, there was dust on the wall by the curtains, the curtains were to say the least well worn, the bathroom taps constantly dripped and the shower was freeze or boil, but the bed was comfy, the television large and there was plenty of courtesy tea and coffee. The evening meal had to be ordered over the bar, and the meal was a decent size, well cooked but could have been much hotter, however in small print on the menu which I didn't spot until after the meal that table service could be provided upon request (this should be standard in such a high rated hotel), also when I took my table in the booth which was very drab, and looked more at home in a town centre boozer there were empty plates on a nearby table, these were still there after I left, come on, buck your ideas up, this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, Breakfast was a self-service affair, again very much like some 1 star hostel, the toaster barely browned the bread despite several passes through it, the scrambled egg, sausages and bacon were tepid despite being in "keep warm" containers (perhaps the staff were frightened to turn the temperature up), and black pudding, fried eggs or poached eggs had to be ordered separately, the good thing was at least you could help yourself to more if you wanted. Park House could be excellent but the staff, managers and general customer service all need a KICK IN THE PANTS to wake them up, the " Hotel Inspector" would have a field day.

On arrival, unkempt grounds, scaffolding all over the place,oh dear!
A rather cool greeting in the very drab, boring and not very welcoming Reception which didn't bode well for out visit.
A short walk on the threadbare carpets looking at the scuffed poorly painted walls and doors took us to our room.
Nice size room in dire need of updating, stained carpets and seat covers, tiny TV for the size of room,no fridge, scuffed walls, window with rotting frame but,at least a huge comfy bed from which we could indulge in conversation with the bunch of workmen literally outside our window laying solar panels,no privacy at all!
Asked for a fan to be provided as the room was very hot and a little thing was delivered that wouldn't blow steam off a cup of tea.
Awoke next morning headed to the bathroom for a shower,NO HOT WATER!
A hotel that boasts 4*s and can't provide hot water, complaint made and the answer is"we have found the problem,it will be hot in about 2-3 hours!!
No offer of a free drink or breakfast as an apology, nothing!
Breakfast is self service and the serving area is too small so that everyone gets in each others way, awful dry chalk like scrambled egg, half cooked sasuages, aneamic looking bacon poor quality coffee and, I kid you not, DOGS FIGHTING in the restaurant!!
The bar was OK if you could find a memeber of staff to serve you and a meal we had in there was surprisingly good so not all negatives though there are far too many, the hotel has massive potential but, they should have closed it whilst getting to that potential rather than refit it around the guests.
Staff were mostly OK,Sharon in particular is brilliant and a credit to the company, quite a few others need to emulate Sharon or take a happy pill!
The management obviously recognise the negatives as that is reflected in the price but, irrespective of good value, standards should still be high.
A 2 star hotel at the moment, time will tell if it regains 4 star standards, until then,we will not be back!

This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
Firstly, and most importantly, I had a terrible nights sleep both nights I was there. The mattress was rock hard and I become itchy as soon as I got under the covers.
My room was located above the entrance to the bar and restaurant which is open to the public. Therefore I had the noise of customers entering and leaving and also standing outside smoking.
It was also above the back door to the restaurant so I had the constant noise of the fans running until about 10.30pm and the stench of fried food was ever present in my room.
On the second morning the bin men arrived at about 0640 and the noise of their truck and emptying the bins woke me. I had just fallen back to sleep when the laundry company arrived and dragged the metal cages across the flagstones outside my room. Delightful!
Now onto the decor and the reason for the title. It looks like it hasn’t been decorated or maintained in any way since the mid 80’s. There was over bed fitted wardrobes in a faux deep mahogany. There was an electric fire on one wall. Nothing really matched in the room and everything was just shabby, but not in a chic way. It was the type of place where you feel like you have to wash your hands after touching anything. The carpet was so badly fitted that it bunched up at the door and I had to put all my weight behind it to slam it shut. I felt so bad for my neighbours as it shook the walls.
The communal spaces were filthy, with an array of dead flies lying on one window sill on the stairs.
I are in the restaurant on my first night as it was already paid for through work. I left hungry as I lost my appetite due to the stench emanating from my table. It smelled as if it had been wiped over with a dirty dishcloth just used to wash all of the breakfast dishes for that day! I couldn’t fault the waiting staff that night though. They were friendly and professional.
I did tell the receptionist about a few of the above issues when I checked out and she did seem genuinely concerned. I just hope management take action as I’ve read previous reviews with very similar complaints and they apologise profusely but obviously nothing is changing.
I was here for a course for work and the course provider is the one who books the accommodation. I told them of my misgivings and they have assured me that they will be using elsewhere from now on. As they give a lot of business to the hotel, hopefully this will be the wake up call they need to do something to resolve these issues.

I love this hotel ❤️ been staying here on business for 6 years. I would change my business travel dates if I couldn’t stay here.
The hotel is going through a series of refurbishments, so some areas/rooms might be a bit tired at present but what has been done is very tasteful and respectful of the property it is. The team, Reception, bar, restaurant, breakfast, are always really welcoming. The rooms are spacious, clean and homely. On many occasions i’m a lone female traveller but always feel safe and comfortable here. Special mention to Becky who knows my order 👍

I have never written a review in my life. But I’m just back from THE PARK HOUSE in Shifnal and it was awful. My son and I have stayed lots of times in this hotel, second weekend in November for one night( Saturday ) to attend an annual event in Telford . We stayed this year 9th November 2024 and had booked 2 rooms. Room 3 and room 16. Firstly the main reception area is boarded up for building work and you have to walk along a man made tunnel- walkway which leads to a reception area which looks like a small cloakroom . We checked in and went to our rooms which were on the first floor. We just used the stairs and the first thing we noticed was how creeky the floor boards were. Room 16 was large enough but it looked over the main road and I could hear the traffic and thought that the window was left open. When I pulled the curtains back to look ,the window was a very old single glazed one ,covered in condensation and black mould and it was closed. The radiators in the room were not turned on.The bed was a double and it was the the worst bed I’ve ever slept in, in my life. You sunk down into it as if it had no springs in the mattress. Within 1 minute of my son arriving in room 3 he also noticed the traffic noise, single glazed window with mould and condensation. His radiator was broken and when he went to reception to tell them the lady said , Oh yes we know about that, there’s and electric one in your wardrobe. His shower hose had a hole in it. The corridor fire break doors were also very rickety and made a lot of noises when someone went through them. Finally ,in the morning the breakfast was a buffet style one and it wasn’t very nice.Normally I never complain about things and would never say anything to the staff. But it was bad. We won’t be going back.

Stayed b room 37 - expensive night with no sleep as the bed was hard and the pillows no better, really poor response when reported to reception who said we are working through the hotel to make it better. My advise would be then don’t put people in the rooms you know need updating and charge £90 quid!
Save your money and look elsewhere.

Not to my knowledge, the place is dirty and run down, definitely not a 4 star hotel
Not in the room.i had but fantastic stay
Thank you for your enquiry. We would be able to do an earlier breakfast time of 7am for you on the weekend of the Midland Game Fair.

We stayed in the cottages at the hotel and there were dogs in the rooms I'm sure if your dogs allowed at the hotel they must be allowed to stay in your room as they certainly won't be able to go in the restaurant not every one who stays there will have a car
