Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went for two nights on a 'take your dog' special offer Sunday and Monday. We had breakfasts and evening meals. On Sunday the steak was superb - supposedly Rump but tasted like fillet! Also the Salmon was excellent too. As one of the nights was a Monday this was their in house pizza night and these were excellent with topping to the very edge of the 12" pizza and being able to take half away in a box which fed us on the journey home next day. The room was a big double with plenty of room for our dog crate and bed and personally I was quite happy with the woodchip and old furniture in the room because it was perfectly clean with a comfy bed and quality bedding. Nice touches were the plentiful tea and coffee, biscuit bars - and bottled water. Also fresh towels, flannels and body washes in the bathroom. Another reviewer called it an amiable Fawlty Towers! This reflects how I felt - in a good way - as any small and rare oversight was immediately rectified and outweighed by attentiveness and top service.

Fabulous. Wonderful staff. Fantastic bedroom. Amazing breakfast. A wonderful hotel. Dulverton is a lovely village. The village has really great shops, a fantastic fishing tackle shop ana fabulous second hand book shop to name just two. The hotel is ideally situated for going out and about touring. Highly recommended.

Excellent location and very good value for money. The food was superb and dietary changes and needs were no problem at all. Really friendly and helpful staff. Parking arrangements, that can be a real headache elsewhere, were easily sorted (very clever system in place). No hesitation in recommending.

Although the decor is in need of upgrading we couldn't fault our stay at The Lion. Bang in the middle of Dulverton so everything ie shops, pub, restaurant all in walking distance. The beds were fantastic the best we have all slepted in when we have been away and the duvet was also of high quality. The owners were away so the kitchen was not open so we couldn't try the food other then breskfast which my husband and our friend said was delicious and cooked by lovely Nicky. A big hats off to Nicky who was a amazing host and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable nothing was too much trouble , even cooking us bacon sandwiches for myself and my friend as we prefered to stay in bed a bit longer!! We will definitely go to The Lion again when we visit Dulverton and if a fabulously comfortable bed and great hospitality are what you are after then we highly recommend it.

Old fashioned family run hotel. Guests can expect to be treated courteously and attentively and to be served the the best breakfast on Exmoor. The hotel is set within the small town of Dulverton, close to all the main amenities.

Lovely big bedroom and comfortable bed, very clean and an excellent full English breakfast for a price which seems correct. Bar / restaurant area furnished in traditional style which felt very comfortable. The staff were welcoming and very polite. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

A traditional, charming family-run hotel, full of character. The owners are really welcoming and helpful. Our room was spacious, warm, great duvet, lots of hot water. The food is very high quality (we ate in the restaurant both nights). Location is great for walking on Exmoor, canoeing on the River Barle, or some retail therapy in Dulverton. This was our third annual November visit with friends, and we’re ready to book for next year!

Delightful hotel located in a gem of an Exmoor town. Room very clean and equipped with tea making. Very comfortable and most welcoming of our 6 month old schnauzer. Best “full English” I have had for years and wonderful toast. Staff helpful and well located for walking on Exmoor.
