Detailed Reviews
Arrived about 4.30 and asked what time food was served, pleased to be told that it was available all day. Good start, place was empty so asked if they had room for the two of us, answer yes! Ordered drinks, then told that we would have to sit outside as all tables were booked - at 4.30 in the afternoon!!!
Sat outside in a nice garden by the river and our steaks arrived, nicely cooked and lots of trimming and delicious, BUT, it was quite chilly and by half way through the food was cold.
Paid the bill and looked inside as we left at 6 o'clock, still empty, loads of tables available, so what's the problem?
Perhaps the landlord will respond, pubs in a tourist area rely on holiday makers to survive in these difficult times but need to help themselves. Would we go back? I doubt it, lovely grub but can't say the same about customer care!

We absolutely love this pub but sadly only get to visit when on holiday in the area.
Everything from the grounds to the food and decor are stunning.
The pub is set on the river and the garden is absolutely beautiful with the most gorgeous flowers everywhere.
The menu is not only varied but it is vast too and very reasonably priced.
The food as always was cooked fresh to order and was delicious with ample portions.
Main courses start at around £10 and cimb to about £21 for a steak.
Our bill for 5 people having a main course, 5 drinks and 3 cups of tea to follow came to a very reasonable £85 and was well worth every penny.
If you pass this pub you'll be missing something extra special.

Book and double check availability as there were one or two evenings we tried booking and they were not providing a food service. Several negative reviews seem to have come across a similar thing. However, we booked for a Friday evening and were not at all disappointed. We were with someone who had been before a few years ago and they mentioned that the place had totally changed ofr the better. Clean, tidy and warmly decorated befitting to the location. The staff were all cheery and lovely at all times. I ordered the curry, one person had lasagne, another the chicken special (like a KFC boneless banquet!) and everyone said it was very good. Good selection of beer and ales.
+ Very good value with big meal portions

Just been to the Anchor Inn with my friend for a birthday lunch. I have been there many times before and enjoyed my meals. I know times are difficult due to Covid., but, I felt that the instructions to enter and once your inside are very vague. I ordered the CHICKEN! Bacon and Ham pie, with chips. Although it came in a polystyrene box which was fine. There was no gravy, the chips had been reheated as had the pie and there was no Chicken evident in the pie. It looked like groul and tasted no better.(picture attached) My friends prawn sandwich with salad and chips, was no better than mine. We did ask to see the Manger on the way out who was on the phone, we said we would wait! Then The Manger sent out a young man after having waited 10 mins to be told she was still on the phone and wouldn't be off anytime soon. So I explained to the young man our disappointment and said if the. Manager cannot be bothered to come and speak to us I would be posting my disappointment online. One staff member (lady) behind the bar had a very negative attitude and was quite rude to us and my friend when she went to order. I will Not be going back to The Anchor again, which is a shame as I go quite often when friends and family visit. We obviously weren't worth the managers time.

I live locally to this pub and over the years have ejoyed my experience here. We had my mothers 82nd birthday with 20 friends and family, Christmas lunch with family and many more meals over the years. Today i took my friend for a birthday lunch and from start to finish it was dreadful. I understand we are in difficult times with covid and regulations are put in place for everyones safety but i cannot understand rudeness from staff. The person who greeted us at the bar was very curt and unfriendly. When i ordered our meal, i asked for some condiments for 2 people. I was given 1 sachet of vinegar and 1 sachet of mayo. I asked for more as there were two of us and was told i had to pay 10p each for any extra sachets as people were 'taking the mickey'. The food arrived. My friend had the chicken and bacon pie with chips. It was inedible as the pie was full of tasteles gloop and chips were very dry and clearly reheated and not freshly cooked. I had a prawn sandwich with chips(same issue). By this time i was very upset and couldnt enjoy my meal. On leaving we asked to speak to the manager to inforn her of our disappointment with our lunch experience. We waited at least 10 minutes and was told she was on the phone and would be for quite a while so we left. I will not be returning to the Anchor Inn and will not be recommending it to others.

Attended this pub twice over this weekend. On both occasions were told the beer garden was full. Both times by very rude staff. On Saturday we witnessed 70th Birthday party banners. Not sure if that was legal? On Sunday a grey haired gentleman merely told us ...full till 3.30. We could see loads of empty tables. I honestly thought we would be welcomed with open arms since Covid must have had an impact!

We went to the Anchor Inn for a meal. I understand that Covid precautions have changed everything but why would anyone think I want to pay pub prices for a meal in cardboard box, plastic cutlery and a bland decor that was peculiarly like the sterile decor in my local back home - traditional English pub it isn't!
And then there was the member of staff that took our order, no precautions, too close, who then disappeared and never returned to check if we needed more drinks...
The menu was nothing special because the specialities were off, so I settled for the next best thing, cheeseburger and chips!
To sum up, nothing special to justify the cost and a disinterested staff. If Rishi thinks the pubs can be saved - he has got it very wrong.

What can I say that hasn't been said. Location Perfect, environs idyllic (especially the outside tables alongside the riverbank), decoration tasteful, menu varied, parking simple and ample. Servers were cheerful, professional and just plain nice, Food, we all had generous portions and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. And we were a party of eleven and we were all served together.

We stayed here for 2 nights , it is a nice friendly pub with a lovely garden including a riverside seating area . We dined here on both evenings and the food was good . Our room was compact but very clean . Breakfast was not included but available at a reasonable cost , the good thing was that the menu included a good choice ranging from a full breakfast down to Scrambled Eggs on toast etc all priced accordingly .
It is in a nice location but public transport is very limited (a few buses a day) so a car is fairly essential. We said we would happily stay here again .

Fab little find after discovering many local pubs were closed due to staff shortages, illnesses and the dreaded Covid!
The food was generous in size, well cooked and there was a good selection of traditional “pub meals” on offer to pick from.
The service was good and the staff and regulars friendly and chatty.
The garden next to the river is a plus and in the dark twinkles with pretty fairy lights
Well worth taking a little drive to this destination, you won’t be disappointed.

There is a tv in the bar but not sure what is shown. While we were there Rugby was on.
Only stayed the one night so cannot comment on room cleaning other than to say my room was fine. Food was good. No problem there at all.
