Myrtle Cottage is a very picturesque building in the centre of Porlock. The hosts, Tyrone and Neil, could not be more friendly and welcoming - from the get-go we felt at home. The room we stayed in was a very comfortable, very clean and reflected the attention to detail apparent throughout the house; lovely prints on the walls, great bedding, tea and coffee facilities and home-made cakes and treats. Dogs are welcome, and we visited with out golden retriever; both Neil and Tyrone seem to have made a friend for life with how welcome Bear was made to feel! The breakfasts are delicious; I stuck to the full English but my wife reports that the salmon and eggs were also great. The woodland walks around the area are fantastic, especially if you have a dog that enjoys water. Most of the walks we did were around 5-10 miles, but there are shorter walks too. There were three pub/restaurants where we ate evening meals, each of which within 5 mins walk from the cottage - and all of which were very nice. There is a late opening convenience store within 5 mins walk. Parking is available behind the cottage, and there is a car park 50m away which has charging for electric vehicles. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay!

WOW that is amazing review and we are thankful that you took the time to write it. We are so glad that you found your stay so wonderful, for all three of you, From Myrtle Cottage being a very picturesque building, to us both who could not be more friendly & welcoming. We pride ourselves on trying to antcipate our guests needs so are glad that you found the room very comfortable, very clean and the attention to detail throughout, such as you mention, lovely prints on the walls, great bedding, tea and coffee facilities and home-made cakes and treats and our scrumptious breakfast, which we try and make a great experience every morning. Of course dogs are welcome, we love them and Bear was just an awesome doggy (he suits his name). Finally Porlock is awesome, the High Street and also the array of walks around us and on Exmoor national park and the wider Somerset. We so hope the 3 of you find a reason to come back and visit the area and us. Thanks Again T&N

Stayed in this lovely cottage for 2 nights with a group of friends for a cycling weekend and booked all the rooms. Prior to our arrival, Neil & Tyrone (hosts) were helpful and informative. All rooms were immaculate and well equipped, nice little touches, even supplying ear plugs and daily top ups of room treats! Quality and quantity of breakfast choices could not be faulted, down to all locally sourced ingredients. Local pubs for evening meals were great value, and the local beach and countryside is a stunning location, perfect if you love the outdoors. Definitely looking forward to revisiting early next year.
Thank you Neil & Tyrone for your wonderful hosting skills,
Regards Luke

This was our return visit to Myrtle Cottage having stayed last year as soon as Neil and Tyrone took over. Things were perfect and we wondered how they could be bettered. However, the changes that they have carried out has made a stay at Myrtle even better! The new decor is simply stunning with the rooms now decorated in beautiful earthy tones, that fit in perfectly with Exmoor. The mattress was the ultimate in comfort and the room spotlessly clean. The welcome tray had delicious handmade chocolates for us and there was a special treat for our dog. What had not changed was the very warm welcome that we received. That welcome included our dog Archie. Neil and Tyrone are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them. They go out of their way to ensure that your stay is as comfortable as possible. The breakfast was fit for a king, and where possible locally sourced. They even cooked a sausage each day for Archie. I don't know of anywhere else that cleans your windscreen for you on your day of departure and leaves a card wishing you a safe onward journey. We have a special celebration next year and couldn't think of any other place we would rather go to celebrate. Thank you for everything Neil and Tyrone. Jo, Charles, and Archie.

This really is an exceptionally good bed and breakfast. Neil and Tyrone are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. They have thought of everything to make you feel comfortable and at ease, especially after a hard day's walking. This includes treats for your dog as well as fudge and chocolates for their people! The attention to detail including cleanliness, fluffy towels and crisp linens is notable. The smell of jasmine while sitting in the garden on comfy chairs is a delight and having a delicious breakfast in the garden as well was such a great start to the day. If we hadn't had another days walking ahead I would have stayed longer!! Thanks so much for such a lovely stay. Walkers may find it handy to know that lush toiletries are kindly provided. The Spar and one stop have fresh sandwiches and bread and salads for your walking lunch and open at 7 so you can stock up before you leave Porlock.

Myrtle Cottage is a gem of a place. The hosts, Tyrone and Neil go above and beyond to ensure a fabulous stay. The comfortable rooms were all immaculately furnished and spotlessly clean (we booked all three). The breakfasts were delicious as was the locally made lemon drizzle cake on arrival. My dog was made so welcome, he didn't want to leave. He even had his own towel and breakfast.

Perfect location for walking either from the cottage or on nearby Exmoor. There is a useful bootroom to keep dirty walking shoes/boots and hose outside to clean the dog. Also within walking distance of great pubs, tea rooms and shops. My friends and I are already planning our return visit.

We were welcomed very warmly, and offered cake and fresh milk to make tea in our room. The cottage was very quaint and absolutely spotless - the owners paid great attention to detail and we much enjoyed our breakfast.
We were doing the South West Coastal path walk so we were only there one night, but we would come again

From the moment we arrived at Myrtle Cottage my friend and I could not have felt more welcomed by the lovely Tyrone and Neil. On arrival we were offered some delicious lemon drizzle cake and shown to our room which was clean with lovely plumped up cushions and a comfortable bed. It was also extremely tidy and so beautifully decorated. Myrtle Cottage have thought of everything ( we particularly enjoyed the personalised chocolates). Tyrone and Neil were so very kind with a wonderful sense of humour adding to the laughter.
The breakfasts were outstanding and were always so beautifully presented with plenty of choice. I still can't make scrambled egg like Tyrone.
Myrtle Cottage is also perfectly situated for those who are doing the South West Coast path. It has easy links to both Minehead, Porlock Weir and Lynmouth making this the perfect base for your adventures.
We would not hesitate in coming back to Myrtle Cottage as it is such a special place and Tyrone and Neil are as equally lovely. We felt we arrived as guests and left as friends.
Thank you so much for having us again. We will be back! WanderingWhortleberries 😀

This is a brilliant place to stay, as a woman travelling alone I felt totally safe and knew that the lovely hosts were available for any issues. Really genuine and friendly couple. The room was spotlessly clean, the cleanest place I have stayed I reckon. The room had everything you could need including nice products and a plentiful refreshments tray. Even some local made chocolates. Soft furnishings were plush giving a really cosy feel. Big bathroom with bath and shower. Windows could open wide if wanted with a beautiful small garden to look over in room one. Breakfast was plentiful and was always asked if wanted anything else. Great location on main road but this is a small quiet village so it’s a lane really. Everything in easy walk, restaurants, shops, cash point. private parking available, I’d definitely go back. I was visiting a friend who lives there and she came for breakfast one day which was a nice gesture.

Tyrone is the perfect host. We were given slippers on arrival and our walking boots taken to be dried. Our room was lovely - beautifully decorated with funky furniture. All things had been thought of; a plentiful supply of different tea bags, biscuits, ear plugs, make-up remover and more. There was also cake for us in the breakfast room :) Breakfast was delicious and we had fresh flowers on the table. We would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you Tyrone!!
