My wife and I spent 11 nights at The Lorna Doone Hotel and Paul and Mel were excellent hosts. The food was superb and everybody so welcoming. Because of mobility problems we stayed in one of the Stables and the accommodation was quite acceptable. A very enjoyable holiday. Thank you Paul and Mel.
Only visited for a meal, but must say the staff were great and the food was lovely. All the food was freshly cooked and was of high quality. I had the chicken, ham hock and leek pie, which was amazing. The hotel is dog friendly and staff made a real fuss of our dog.
Stayed at the Lorna Doone Hotel for 3 nights in room 3. Covid precautions still being taken seriously and felt as secure as is possible during this time. The bed was enormous, comfortable and had really good quality bedding. 3 very good sleeps. Although, because of Covid, rooms are not presently being serviced each day, toilet paper and fresh milk were left each day in a flask outside the room. Plentiful supply of tea and coffee left on hospitally tray. There was a super range of breakfasts from fresh fruit and yogurts to a full English. Scrambled eggs were amazing. Waiting staff really friendly and professional. If you get the chance to eat in the restaurant it is well worth it. Great choice for coeliacs. Lovely garden area to the rear. The owners were welcoming and should be proud of their hotel. I would definitely recommend it.…
This small, (11 room), family run, purpose built Victorian hotel is perfectly situated to explore Exmoor and the rugged West Somerset and Devon coast. The rooms are well equipped and clean, but being of its age there is no lift, so second floor access requires climbing two flights of stairs. The en suite in our room was equipped with a bath! and mixer tap shower, which I admit took a bit of adjustment to obtain the correct temperature. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful without being in the least obsequious. The crowning glory was the splendid food. The dinner menu has enough variety to satisfy most tastes, all of the selections which we sampled, all were of excellent quality and perfectly cooked and presented. Honourable mention must be given to the scrambled eggs and high quality smoked salmon breakfast - the scrambled eggs were without exaggeration, simply the best I have ever tasted, and I'm convinced there was a little bit of magic stirred in! A further mention must be made of the wonderful coffee which I suspect is the result of sourcing everything for best, (mostly local), quality rather than for highest margins. The intimate, well stocked bar, a comfortable lounge, and a pleasant courtyard complete this delightful little hotel. …
A large group of us walking the coastal path stayed here for three nights, and the hotel owners, Paul and Mel, could not have been more accommodating. The dinner and breakfast was first rate, and all the staff were pleasant, welcoming, and attentive. Rooms were comfortable and well equipped, and Mel coped well with our last minute requests for additional breakfasts or 19 packed lunches for the next morning! Thank you so much - we may not come back all together, but I know many of us plan to come back to stay with you again.
