My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Porlock, staying at the Lorna Doone hotel for 2 nights.
The hotel had put in to place sensible Covid restrictions to ensure our safety and at no time did we feel threatened or indeed inconvenienced. This is our first trip away since lockdown and we both felt very safe staying at this delightful hotel. The room was very comfortable, especially the bed, and my wife particularly raved about the towels!
The breakfasts were delicious and heartedly consumed by these two guests... wife loved the smashed avocado on toast!
We had dinner on one night, smoked fish for starter with sea bass for my wife and a chicken and ham hock pie for myself... again delicious.
Overall, an excellent stay and a perfect base for walking the Southwest Coast Path.
Thank you Lorna Doone Hotel for a perfect stay.

This small, (11 room), family run, purpose built Victorian hotel is perfectly situated to explore Exmoor and the rugged West Somerset and Devon coast. The rooms are well equipped and clean, but being of its age there is no lift, so second floor access requires climbing two flights of stairs. The en suite in our room was equipped with a bath! and mixer tap shower, which I admit took a bit of adjustment to obtain the correct temperature. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful without being in the least obsequious. The crowning glory was the splendid food. The dinner menu has enough variety to satisfy most tastes, all of the selections which we sampled, all were of excellent quality and perfectly cooked and presented. Honourable mention must be given to the scrambled eggs and high quality smoked salmon breakfast - the scrambled eggs were without exaggeration, simply the best I have ever tasted, and I'm convinced there was a little bit of magic stirred in! A further mention must be made of the wonderful coffee which I suspect is the result of sourcing everything for best, (mostly local), quality rather than for highest margins. The intimate, well stocked bar, a comfortable lounge, and a pleasant courtyard complete this delightful little hotel.

Quaint hotel well located right in the centre of historic Porlock village.

Room was compact in size but cleverly equipped to provide everything we needed, and its size was in keeping with the low ceiling, exposed beam architecture of this charming old building, which all added to the atmosphere.

Great view across the roof tops to Porlock Weir.
Friendly welcome and very good breakfast choice with friendly service.

Because of town centre location the parking was a choice between paid public or ‘find a space’ in the streets behind, but to be honest this is the trade off one would expect in a delightful old town like this.

Great location for plenty of walks.

We visited Lorna Doone Hotel Restaurant for dinner last night and had such a lovely evening.
The food was reasonably priced and really delicious, it was largely locally sourced too. The ambience and service was also exceptional and the restaurant layout and the staff diligently observed Covid-19 protocols.

Highly recommend this restaurant. We’ll be back!!

Stayed at the Lorna Doone Hotel for 3 nights in room 3. Covid precautions still being taken seriously and felt as secure as is possible during this time. The bed was enormous, comfortable and had really good quality bedding. 3 very good sleeps. Although, because of Covid, rooms are not presently being serviced each day, toilet paper and fresh milk were left each day in a flask outside the room. Plentiful supply of tea and coffee left on hospitally tray. There was a super range of breakfasts from fresh fruit and yogurts to a full English. Scrambled eggs were amazing. Waiting staff really friendly and professional. If you get the chance to eat in the restaurant it is well worth it. Great choice for coeliacs. Lovely garden area to the rear. The owners were welcoming and should be proud of their hotel. I would definitely recommend it.

Considering it is in the narrow High Street it has been attractively updated with interesting and topical furnishings in the public rooms.
They take Covid precautions very seriously, but the staff are cheerful and helpful.
Food is plentiful, well presented and delicious.
Our large double room faced onto the High street but there was very little traffic noise during the night.
Only drawback was parking, either in public car park, free between 6 pm and 9 am or a few free spaces in a road some walk away.

We regularly stat at the Lorna Doone and love it. We stay in the courtyard stable room and love it and so does our little dog. We go winter and summer and enjoy the contrast between the seasons. The room is lovely and clean and the ability to sit outside the room in the warm weather and enjoy a cuppa or a sneaky glass of wine just adds to a lovely experience. We feel safe and sound there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. Thank you Mel and Paul.

We stayed at the Lorna Doone Hotel for a night last weekend. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Our room was room 1, with a large bed, TV and a street view. All very clean and tidy.

Breakfast was one of the best we have ever had, we had the full Lorna Doone Fry Up accompanied by coffee and orange juice and also toast

We didn't have an evening meal

All in all a lovely experience and we would return here.

A large group of us walking the coastal path stayed here for three nights, and the hotel owners, Paul and Mel, could not have been more accommodating. The dinner and breakfast was first rate, and all the staff were pleasant, welcoming, and attentive. Rooms were comfortable and well equipped, and Mel coped well with our last minute requests for additional breakfasts or 19 packed lunches for the next morning! Thank you so much - we may not come back all together, but I know many of us plan to come back to stay with you again.
