About

#1 of 1 special inn in Wincanton
Location
Service
Based in the ancient lands of Somerset, this beautifully refurbished 17th-century alehouse in the small historic town of Wincanton has been restored and tastefully designed by Lynne Franks as a one-stop haven offering naturally healthy solutions to the stress, pressure and health challenges of modern life. Our Hub is in the heart of Wincanton and is just up the road from trendy Bruton and world-famous The Newt and Hauser & Wirth – as well as a great stop off the A303 on the way further west to Cornwall. Wincanton is a small market town with a variety of unique and varied boutique shops as well as breathtaking local walks. As we have only four beautiful rooms, we kindly request that full payment is made on booking to secure your room. Rooms are to be reserved online with a valid credit or debit card. If you are unable to attend and wish to cancel your booking this can be done up to 3 days before the due date of arrival via email. If you fail to show without notice, you will still be liable to be charged for your booking. Check in between 1pm and 5pm (please let us know when to expect you so we can greet you properly.) We would be grateful if you could check out by 11am to enable us to prepare for our next guest, unless previously agreed. Your safety is important to us, so we are taking all the necessary actions to make sure that you’re COVID-safe during your stay. You are invited to enjoy our nurturing eco bedrooms with luxuriously comfortable beds that you won’t want to leave! All our unique rooms offer a peaceful and restful stay, whether travelling on holiday, celebrating a special occasion or on business. Enjoy our natural fibre, fair trade mattress; organic cotton sheets and ‘magical’ alpaca duvets and pillows. For those here on work, each room has a desk they can work from comfortably. We also offer the option of working in the cafe during your stay. All our bathrooms have organic cotton towels with natural beauty products provided. Every room has pure water served in our sacred geometry glassware. We also offer complimentary unlimited organic teas and coffees and fast reliable wifi throughout the whole building. Our cafe is open Thursday – Saturday 10.00am – 4.00pm. However, the space is available for our guests to use during their stay. You can enjoy breakfast in our comfortable residents lounge, where we provide fresh croissants from our local bakery with organic yoghurt, fresh fruit and gluten-free granola, available from 7am. If you have any dietary requests we would be grateful if you could inform us in advance. Our peaceful bedrooms are called after the flowers that resonate with us as part of our commitment to nature and a natural, nurturing beautiful sleep. For those interested in longer stays, please email us to discuss the price.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are expecting the ‘nurturing and uplifting’ experience promised on the website whilst sipping filtered water from ‘sacred geometric glassware’, I fear you’ll be disappointed. The house is quirky with some lovely furniture and artwork and our room was immaculately clean with a very comfortable bed. Very tiny en-suite shower room. The website says there is parking but be aware that you can’t pull up outside to drop bags. The road is very busy and there are just four parking places opposite which seem permanently taken. Car parking is a few hundred yards up the road. The B&B is self-entry - which is very convenient - through the Seed Cafe. I don’t believe this has been open for some time so no-one around. Once in the room we only had one pillow each and no bedside light on one side. We texted our contact who didn’t respond (we later discovered she was unwell and she responded later) but saw someone in the next door Seed Shop who found the owner, Ms Franks, for us. She appeared and found pillows and light but, sadly, not a smile nor a warm welcome. That was the last we saw of anyone. Again, no-one around in the morning and we passed on the two croissants which had been in the residents lounge since we arrived the previous afternoon and the instant coffee. I hate to leave poor reviews but this just isn’t what it is promising to be - perhaps manage expectations a little better. So, at £120 for bed and breakfast, we sadly couldn’t recommend this place.

Response from Lynne Franks, Owner at SEED Hub B&B
Responded 1 week ago
Hello there, I am deeply disappointed by your review here. I came to find you several times to see if you were OK but you were either out or in your bedroom with the door closed and I didnt want to disturb you. The croissants are always fresh from the bakery the evening before as many of our guests are here working and like their breakfast early. We have never had a complaint and it was a shame you didnt try them. I also upgraded you to our lovely Jasmine room which is a higher cost as it was free and I thought you would like it - obviously I should not have done so. I did welcome you and immediately I had your requests, I went to make sure you had what you wanted but you had gone out so impossible to check with you. To employ someone to be waiting for you when we had no idea of when you would arrive makes no sense for anyone in hospitality which is why we have ensure that entry is available at our guests convenience. Our website clearly states that there is a lot of free parking in the town - all just a few minutes walk away - and you certainly can park and unload outside in the designated area as everyone else does. All in all, I wish all our guests to enjoy their stay with us and fortunately they do as the lovely comments below confirm. Thank you for the positive comments you did include.

Beautifully calm and peaceful - very special place to stay. Spotlessly clean. Wonderfully friendly owner and staff. Great coffee too. Absolutely loved the decor and super comfy bed and pillows. Will definitely be back. Good base to explore so much locally.

I have just returned from a 3 night break. I had a wonderful relaxing time. Food was tasty and homemade. My bedroom was very pretty and comfortable and the bed delightfully comfy. My hosts were very hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend for a relaxing break and I will definitely be back.

An inspiring safe space newly renovated and designed by Lynne Franks in a great location. I stayed with a friend in the Magnolia Room which was spacious and clean with some lovely touches and comfortable beds. The Seed Cafe's seasonal plant based menu really is food for the soul, and the staff are friendly providing excellent service. During our stay we booked onto the monthly SEED cafe women's gathering on Friday night hosted by Lynne, which provided an opportunity to network with likeminded women, which made for a memorable stay and experience. Treatments also available, as well as a gift shop, all in all a nourishing nurturing experience.
