Having visited a number of times over last 20 years (last being pre Covid) from my experience on this occasion, the spa has lost its unique sparkle. The lavender steam room which had a door missing, no aroma of lavender (or steam for that matter!). The jacuzzi was also covered in the older pool area and the pool area looked really disheveled (ie paint peeling off the floor etc) a number of floors across all the ‘pool/sauna/steam areas) were very slippy. Hence why most people were crammed in the other pool area. Absolutely everything was ‘a supplement’ & I consider if a 3 course meal is ‘included in the price’, then having to pay additionally for vegetables and certain fish is a bit of a liberty! staff were constantly upselling drinks & also having customers pay an additional charge for some classes is a bit of a cheek (ie archery, reformer Pilates, axe throwing etc). I appreciate the venue has building extensions ongoing outside, but this appears to be a the cost of neglecting some of the older internal pool facilities. Broken lockers (with doors hanging off with ‘out of order signs on’, leaking ceilings on corridor & lifts out of order didn’t enhance the experience). For the prices charged (£279pp per person & upwards for an 1 night stay when you can’t use spa facilities on day off arrival), I’m afraid its lost its charm and you do not get value for your money. The food was nice but the portions are very small (again with many supplements on the menu) and eggs were cold when they arrived at breakfast (having to find someone to ask for certain eggs, i feel could be managed better by waiting staff asking and then processing any orders at the customers tables) It’s not cheap but I didn’t expect it to be, but the volume of ‘additional’ costs I found to be very imposing. Unfortunately despite having visited on numerous occasions over the years and selling it as the best spa break in the north west, I’m afraid this is no longer the case & from our experience on this visit of ‘corporate upselling and the number of additional costs’ we won’t be rushing to return and will seek out alternate venues who are offering a more attractive price point and greater value for money. A great shame it has altered so much

Hotel's Favourite
We decided we would visit again after a previously fantastic stay last year, this time for my husband’s birthday. Once again we had the most amazing experience. From checking in with Millie who treated us like royalty, making us feel valued (observations on her later actions with other guests shows this was how all guests are treated :) ) checked our meals and spa experiences were correct. We had a stunning room overlooking the terraced area and into the wooded area, lovely to hear the birds in the morning. The room was spacious, clean and the bed so comfortable. The bathroom was well maintained, the toiletries smelled lovely. Hubby was happy he could watch tv from the bath!!! Housekeeping were great, and the room kept clean and replenished. The food in the ballroom was excellent, no matter which meal, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, the quality shone through. Special shout out for the chefs, the Ballroom was busy on the second night we were there, and it felt like all the guests had decided to eat at the same time so the place was full. Yet still the service was relaxed (efficient and not manic) and dishes were received swiftly to the exceptionally high standard we have learned is the normal at HCH. Our waitress, Georgia, is an asset to the hotel. Having worked in hospitality, we could both see her commitment to the customer in all she did, she was always smiling and unobtrusive in keeping her stations flowing. She engaged well and was interested in our day. We planned our spa experience better this time around so we could make the most of the facilities. We still have bits we want to try on our next visit (I think this is going to be an annual trip!) I had a manicure with Hayley and felt truly pampered for the afternoon. The hubby had a deep tissue massage. I could tell as soon as I saw him it had been good and he had one of the best night’s sleep in a long while following it. (He may have also slept on the massage table as well!) The spa is well deserving of the highest accolade, the pool a lovely temperature to swim in and we enjoyed exploring the different options. Next trip it’s the heated beds for me and maybe the Sanctum for some reflective time. Lunch on the final day, efficiently managed by Cem, he was brilliant with all the guests and was a great leader in the room, engaging well with everyone yet also allowing people to enjoy the food and the stunning surroundings. I loved the decorations for Halloween as you enter and the autumnal display in the ballroom. As we were earlier in the year than our previous stay we were able to see the stunning views as we ate. This is fast becoming one of our favourite places to stay, the food is amazing, the choice of dishes made it difficult to pick one, I was glad I was there for two nights so I could try others. The hotel and grounds are stunning, the rooms are spacious and well decorated and there are little nooks where you can sit and relax, or play a game of dominoes. However, for me, what makes the stay at Hoar Cross Hall so special has to be the staff. Every single person was friendly and welcoming and I cannot wait to go back.

Excellent food and drink with the serenity spa package. The spa has expanded some I was here last time. I had a massage with Maria, who is an excellent masseuse - I felt super relaxed afterwards. The spa needed a bit of attention in places, particularly the older sections. Looking forward to coming back when the outdoor pools are ready.

Amazing experience, from the food to the facilities to the spa treatments, everything is exceptional. I had a massage treatment from Bianca, one of the best massages I’ve ever had. The grounds are beautiful and the food is incredible.staff are very friendly too.

Overall, our experience at the hotel spa was pleasant. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the spa service was very nice. The food at the hotel restaurant was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. However, I was disappointed by the noisy fan in the bathroom. It was quite disruptive and made it difficult to relax and enjoy my stay. Additionally, the pool area was extremely crowded and there was a lack of seating available. The noise level in the pool area was also quite high, which took away from the relaxation I was hoping to experience. Overall, while the hotel spa had many positive aspects, the noise from the fan and the crowded pool area were definitely drawbacks. I would recommend the hotel spa for its excellent food, service and amenities, but be aware of these potential issues during your stay. We also felt the new Spa Stays are not as good before. On the first day of arrival no spa or treatments. We prefer to check in have our spa/pool and the second day maybe have treatment in the morning or pool and leave after lunch. The new set up does not allow that which was disappointing.

The spa has lost its luxury touch in my opinion. We booked the serenity spa stay Friday night-Saturday and it is way too busy to the point you can’t find a place to relax or a bed to lie on. There was a lavender room which had a door missing and the lavender just dumped on the seat. The jacuzzi was also covered. The floor in the same room was peeling and even as a hotel guest there was no provided slippers to walk around. Absolutely everything was ‘a supplement’ from flip flops, to not even having coffee included with breakfast. People were not respectful in the quiet areas and the staff, although helpful, just seemed like they have been conditioned to get as much sales as possible (constant offering of food and drinks which are a supplement). Furthermore, although I appreciate they are expanding with the new development, the view from the room was a building site which is not expected from a spa stay. Although the spa and the grounds are beautiful, I really feel for the price that it has fell off and you don’t get your moneys worth. Not being able to check in until late afternoon and no use of the spa, and then having to check out by 11 in the morning also just does not make much sense for the customer in my opinion. The food was nice but the portions are so small (again with many supplements on the menu), and I was disappointed to find the ‘juice shots’ in the morning were not fresh, however just Naked juices poured into shot glasses.

Just had a full body massage with Amber, I have to say it was one of the best massages I've had at Hoarcross. Amber was so lovely and was able to get out a couple of knots I had in my back. 10 out of 10. Only thing is I could have easily had another hour with her.

This is my second time at the spa and what a treat, the location is so peaceful, even with the new improvements going on, which I can’t wait to see. The building itself is Beautiful and I love the decor, the way everything is set out is fantastic, lots of different areas to explore and experience. There are areas which are a little tired and the jacuzzi in one area was covered over and not in use, but this did not spoil our visit. We discovered when we arrived that Henry’s was not open which was disappointing as my friend and I had arranged to meet here for lunch, however we were directed to the atrium where a lovely gentleman who’s first day it was organised for us to have the bacon rolls from the breakfast menu, thank you to the Chef for letting us have them we thoroughly enjoyed them. Dinner, breakfast and lunch were amazing and just the right size so we could fit in the 3 courses without feeling over full. The drinks were a little expensive but I think that’s everywhere nowadays. The 2 ladies that served us dinner and lunch were lovely and really looked after us, I’m afraid I didn’t get their names but wanted to say thank you. The majority of staff we encountered were really lovely but I felt the reception wasn’t as welcoming as the last time we had arrived and we were not offered a welcome drink like last time, but other people were. However, I would like to make a special mention for Gemma F who did my full body massage, she was so lovely, friendly and helpful, and the massage was amazing, I could have stayed there all day, I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep at the end, just what I needed, thank you. We had a fantastic couple of days thank you so much

When usually leaving HCH after a twilight spa, I feel luxurious and wanting to return. On this occasion, I left feeling deflated and disappointed. Firstly upon arrival we were greeted by a lady, although lovely, I felt kind of pointless when the resource could have been used on reception to check people in quicker, 2 people on reception with a big queue, is not enough and if you were unfortunate enough to be at the back of the queue this would greatly eat into your time at the spa as they aren’t the quickest to check you in. Secondly, it seems to have lost the spark and luxury once you get past reception and into the spa, a number of things weren’t available to use, they had randomly removed a door and threw some lavender into a room to try and make it appealing, this just looked dirty, the ceiling looked half painted and mould in the tiles. In other areas there were tiles missing and loose tiles lying around, the whole place just felt like it needed a good scrub and deep clean. Previously the meal you receive was substantial, I’m not sure if they were running out of food on this occasion??? The chicken came with rice, a spoonful and tenderstem, literally a small sprig and some watery sauce, then the salmon….what I can only describe as a teaspoon of lentils and veg swimming in, again, some watery sauce. A usually nourishing and healthy meal was just lacking in everything, let’s not mention the large mouthful of cheesecake for £6 or the wine appearing to double in price. There was no hot water in the showers resulting in being unable to shower, a number of people were complaining about this and again, the changing rooms just felt grubby, not how it usually feels. It says “something new is coming” and the pictures look lovely, but felt like everything else is possibly being compromised to pay for this. Would it not be better to close the spa for a week or two to give it the deep clean and revamp it so desperately needs rather than expect people to pay for a luxury to be left feeling that it has gone downhill considerably. I usually can’t wait to get back to HCH for my next spa, after this visit, I sadly won’t be rushing back.

Staff were very friendly. Room clean. I had vegan options, my mum standard, and we were both super impressed with the quality and taste of food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Compliments to the chefs. We booked the one night spa stay on Easter Sunday. The spa was very busy, the bar and dining busy, but service never took long, and it wasn't a problem. It was a shame it felt a little crowded in the spa. We would go again and recommend it to others. A lovely spa break, the hotel is a very grand setting. Flip flops/spa footware is not provided, and I was not aware of this beforehand, so we had to purchase it. It would be good if this detail was included ahead of arrival.
