We previously stayed at Crown Hotel and vowed never tor return. We found this hotel had been taken over by new management and thought we would give it a second try.
We booked a ground floor room but ened up in a room 3 flights of stairs up, one set I literally had to crawl up as was extremely steep. Bedroom was a good size along with the bathroom. Shower had one of those tap connectors on, so getting temp right was hard, also I slipped getting into the bath and have a nice bruise on my inner thigh.
We noticed our room over looked the fire escape, that's fine however bit concerning window was painted shut😬😬. We had drinks in the bar downstairs which was reasonably priced, bar man was lovely. He helped us sort out tv out as for love nor money I couldn't get it to work correctly, he managed so thank you. There is an Indian restaurant on site but as we were meeting family not all of us wanted an Indian so we didn't eat there. Menu did look nice tho. After our meal out we went back to the crown and had more drinks, was very quiet for a Saturday night but weatherspoons was soooo busy. We had an early night un til a lovely couple arrived back at midnight and then continued to argue on and off until 2pm. It spoilt the night. Overall was pleasant effort, I've stayed in worse. The refurbishment is coming along nicely. We didn't stay for breakfast as didn't start til 8am.

Staff were friendly and polite
Room was basic but clean
Breakfast was hot and filling
Hotel is under refurbishment but from the standard of what has been done it will be a lovely place
Family living nearby had heard bad reports on it but the new owners are working hard to improve the place. It’s taking time and money.
There was entertainment Saturday evening and we felt disheartened that more people were not there.

Only down point was we had a bedroom at the front and the venue over the road was very noisy - fine for me because I can take hearing aids out !!

Great location for what we wanted. Helpful staff and I wish we had time to eat in Indian restaurant in the hotel because it smelt amazing! The room was clean, spacious and was quiet during the night. However, the bed was extremely uncomfortable therefore we didn’t sleep well at all. We woke up with back and neck pain. Such a shame because we loved our stay!

Absolutely awful stay. We arrived as a stopping point for the night as we were going to Alton Towers & we travelled up as a group of 4 from South Wales. We arrived at the hotel, to find out that it was being renovated which was not a problem as it wasn’t going to be a long stay anyway. We’re 2 young couples, so we’re not particularly picky anyways. What is an issue however, is no heating at all, not a drop of hot water in the 24 hours we were there, no attempt to resolve this issue from the hotel staff & just overall awful experience. We arrived at 4.30pm on Wednesday 20th March 2025, we went to our rooms after being greeted by a freezing reception & blunt staff. We had planned to go out that evening for dinner, so were getting ready to head out when we noticed the shower was cold & took ages to attempt to heat up, we left ourselves short of time so we left it and went out. When we returned at around 7.30pm, we tried the shower again and no luck, ended up having a quick cold shower and jumped into bed as it was late and we had been travelling all day too. The next morning, we tried the shower again and it was still ice cold so we contacted the reception where they said that there was an issue with the boiler which made sense in line with the fact that our room was very cold. So the receptionist said that they were going to check the boiler and would get back to us, so we waited patiently ahead of what we were hopeful was going to be a warm shower. But no, we were told there would be a “50/50” chance it would work again, which is not particularly what we wanted to be told when paying £64 for just a bed? We made a complaint upon check out where we were told he needed to talk to his manager, which was fine & were told we would have a phone call later on from the management. No phone call came, so we contacted them to have the same dispute on the phone & to be told they’d contact us again within 24-48 hours. Today, 22nd March 2024 this phone call came where we have been told that they need to speak to their staff, to confirm our story.. absolutely horrendous. Honestly wouldn’t let my dog stay there, they’d have better amenities and service in a kennel, staying here is a waste of money, book a hostel… better quality!!

Booked 4 rooms and paid in full. Then on the day of checking in we got charged an extra £20.00 per room if we paid by credit card or it would be £150.00 extra if we paid by debit card.
There were 2 rooms that had on the website 'breakfast included' we were told that it wasn't so we had to go eat breakfadt elsewhere.
The receptionist was very rude and 'extremely horrible' to two of the younger guests ..
The hotel rooms are dirty and very dated
Hair in plug holes uncomfortable beds and just generally grotty ...
Avoid at all costs !

I can’t even put words to this bad experience.
When we check in and went to our room. We tried turn the heat on it didn’t wouldn’t work. I went to the desk to ask how does the heating work? The guy told me we don’t have any heat at the hotel and to use the 2 space heaters.
I asked him why they didn’t have heat he had no clue and wasn’t very concerned.
The room was Ok. we didn’t get any house keeping service for 5 night stay…Had to ask for toilet paper and soap.
Saturday they had a live band start play at 8:00 follows by EDM music until 2:00am
the room was vibrating.
I ask the front desk manager an about it and he told so sorry your room is over the bar…WTF
BTW the hotel is under construction. It’s like putting lipstick on a pig.
unfortunately we couldn’t find a local hotel to move too.
No one seems to care about their guests.
If you are looking for a place to stay that doesn’t require heat, good service and you love EDM music till 2:00am…And is under construction..You have found your perfect place Then Crown Hotel in Stone…

Poor accommodation- the owners need to put their money into this business as it's nothing but tired, dirty in the rooms and bathroom. Heating was on full blaze snd hotwater from the shower was luke warm. The taps and shower heads had scale deposits all over so would hazard a guess the legionella team would have a field day. The parking they say is free yet got charged by the car park owners as the administration system in the hotel didnt work- they wont help and instead have a hefty fine . Poor communication. Expensive price for what it is. Needs investment and poor management with the car park fine. I have read else where online there are lots of people with the same parking fine and the hotel wont help.

I travelled for business but would rather not stay here again!

We stayed here on the NYE night and the place was quite comfortable and entertaining since we attended the Bryan Adams tribute show.
The rooms were lovely and breakfast was delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Stone.

This 2 star or less hotel is a disgrace. Rooms very tired and dated. New owners are doing a refurb. However instead of closing parts of the hotel they are trying to sell rooms with inadequate facilities. TV not working. Only 1 towel for a double room occupancy. The manager refused to see us until hed had his lunch!! Receptionist Florence was very helpful whilst dealing with many complaints. Glad we were only there for one night. One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. Never Again!

Went for a wake which is not exactly the best reason but the hotel staff did an excellent job looking after a large group of people. Despite having to cater for more people than had been estimated there was plenty of food to go round and very little queuing at the bar. Staff were very attentive. Given that they have only just taken over the hotel which had a bad reputation there are already many signs that they are making improvements. Well done and thanks.
