Castle Hotel presents a mixed bag of experiences. The attentive service during weddings has been lauded by some guests, yet others point to inconsistent service quality. The comfortable and clean accommodations receive praise, although a number of patrons highlight the need for refurbishments, noting dated aspects and maintenance issues. The hotel's cleanliness generally receives commendations, especially in the bridal suite, but there have been concerns raised over food hygiene. While the wedding facilities are often appreciated, opinions on value and atmosphere diverge, with some guests finding the hotel to be a cost-effective choice and others feeling underwhelmed, particularly by the less contemporary rooms and the occasional poor DJ experience.

Where do we begin... after looking at potential wedding venues we chose The Castle Hotel to host our Wedding Day and I'm so glad we did, we chose the Wedgwood Suite and the room was absolutely stunning. Becki who looked after our day was absolutely amazing, nothing was a problem and she made our day feel so relaxed from start to finish. The host met myself (bride) at the entrance to the building and made sure that the groom wasn't in site and guests were seated in the ceremony room wedding breakfast food was exceptional and all our guests commented on how nice the food was. The venue dressed and set out by staff perfectly and just how we imagined it to be. Unfortunately on our wedding day it rained but staff ensured that we were able to still get our photography shots sorted inside. The evening reception was amazing and again the room was dressed perfectly. The bridal suite was beautiful and very clean. I would like to thank all the staff especially Becki for the absolutely amazing service and giving us a truly unforgettable day ❤️

I got married on the 12th October and the castle hotel.

The staff went above and beyond to make my day special! Leah was an absolute gem all throughout my planning, constantly reassuring me, and making sure all of the details were completely correct multiple times so things weren’t wrong on the day.

The room decor and the ceremony were amazing. The staff couldn’t have made it any more perfect for us.

Staff during the meal were amazing with my children interacting with them and making sure they were ok.

Sammy and Sean made my day run very smoothly, making sure I was happy with everything, making sure everything was on time and kept consulting me with what was happening next, as someone with autism I found this very helpful.

I would highly recommend the castle to anyone, the wedding package is very affordable and everything included is amazing! The bridal suit was very clean and very relaxing,

Thank you to you all for making my wedding perfect x

On our 1st meeting with Mike we instantly knew we wanted to get married here why ? Because it’s relaxed friendly family run and beautiful room just up our street , and bottom line the price was fantastic. We wanted to get married early December but Mike recommend in between Christmas/new year and promised a great day especially with his fantastic team . To be honest we wasn’t expecting anything to special as the price was so low but just wanted to get married we took all of Mikes recommendations regarding photography , magic mirror and DJ . He promised us an amazing day . Well he didn’t disappoint. We stayed the night before and the room and beds were more than I expected very comfortable and I slept really well nothing was too much trouble and felt extremely welcome. The wedding day came and from the start it was fabulous breakfast was lovely and all staff was so kind making sure we was ok and had everything. Sammie came up and introduced herself and omg she was amazing from start to finish it was a long day and that girl was amazing. The ceremony was amazing obviously ran so well Mike was great as was the whole team from Laura at reception to the lovely lady who sorted out our rooms . The wedding breakfast blew us away the service and food was so much more than expected all staff was great there was 70 to sit down and everyone thought it was lovely so many compliments. The evening went extremely well to and evening buffet was fantastic everyone was catered for . We had an amazing day so did our guests . So much more than our expectations. Everyone went above and beyond, our room that evening was lovely and very comfortable . Breakfast was lovely and although staff was very busy preparing for next event still nothing was to much for them . We want to do it all again . We will definitely stay again but if you are looking to get married I wouldn’t bother looking anywhere else because if your looking for 5 star but budget this is the place . I can’t get over how amazing this family work , all our guests were impressed and no complaints at all and from our family that saying something. Mike , Sammie Laura and all your staff thank you from the bottom of our hearts you gave us a day we will never forget and made it magical .

Well I really don't know what to say about this hotel.
We had booked a two night stay and when we booked we was told that we could use the local council car park which was about a 100 metres away.
But a few weeks before we were to travel we received an update stating that the council had changed the car park to short stay only but there were other overnight car parks about 10min walk away ( all car parks were pay and display)
When we arrived at the hotel we checked in and carried our cases up to the 2nd floor no lifts in this hotel.
The room itself was more Hostel than hotel.
The building I was told was 500 years old and looked like it was possibly the original decor and carpet in the room.
The colour scheme was well dated and looked like it was well overdue for an upgrade the same could be said for the carpet and whatever had been used as an underlay.
The wardrobe was tiny to say the least which was also where the iron ( this leaked more water than steam produced) and the ironing board which wobbled to the point that we decided not to use it was stored .
The bathroom looked like it had been done up at some point in time but again needs to be updated.
The bed mattress was hard and pillows were not much better.
There was no view out of the window apart from a fire escape and some wheelie bins
The breakfast I have to say was better than I was expecting and the breakfast area was pleasant enough
Would I stay here again I'm afraid it would be a No
This hotel is in a great location but if all the rooms are similar to the one we had I would say that it really needs to look at updating them.

Castle Hotel

I booked the Castle Hotel in Tamworth For a group of us attending the area for a charity bike ride for the armed forces charity.

I booked 3 rooms a year in advance having looked at the hotel through the usual booking sites. I dealt with a very nice person who answered all my questions and took the booking.

8 months later I received two emails covering a room each. These emails were cancelling our booking with no explanation why. I wondered If the was an error so I called the hotel very soon after the emails were received ( a Sunday late afternoon early evening).

The receptionist was again very nice and informed me that a wedding had booked in and they had complained that there were no available rooms for the guests and this is why my booking had been cancelled.

I was dumbfounded that without a call or anything we were simply cancelled and to top it off the receptionist told me that I agreed to this as the old manager had only taken the booking on the understanding that if an event booked in they could cancel the rooms.

I explained that no such conversation had happened and asked to speak to a manager. I was told that no managers were on duty. I said that I expect to be contacted by the hotel manager by the end of play on the following Wednesday, I am sure that you will not be surprised to hear no such call happened.

Best bit was that only two of the rooms were cancelled. Very poor service  no consideration for the guests and Management who avoid dealing with complaints hiding behind the poor reception staff.

I would avoid this hotel if you are relying on having the room you booked as if a better offer comes along you will possibly find the room is cancelled.

We stayed here for 1 night for a function in town; the room was were given (no9) was nothing like any of the photos on the internet; was such a let down especially as it cost £90.
First off we walked in and were met by an awful smell; mixture of stale cigarettes and moth balls; we complained to reception and were fobbed off and just told “sorry there’s no other rooms available”, she didn’t even take the time to come and check out the room or offer any food will. The room was extremely tired and dated; visible damage to walls and carpets, bathroom door didn’t fully close, furniture balanced by bits of cardboard, over head shower didn’t work; and the little shower head had such little pressure it wasn’t worth using; plus the toilet seat moved so when you sat down you went flying.
When we left, the same receptionist was on and didn’t even ask how are stay was as she clearly knew.

Great location for an awful hotel (not apparently if it's a wedding). Booked through Agoda, arrived a what looked like a derelict building, met the receptionist, showed her my Agoda booking reference (paid in advance) to be told "we don't deal with them anymore". I explained I'd paid in advance and she replied to the effect of, hard-luck, you better try and get your money back from Agoda. We were desperate for a bed for the night and "luckily" for us they had a couple of rooms still available but for £82 (including breakfast). We'd already paid Agoda £62 but the hotel wasn't interested, did we want a room or not. We had booked what was described as a "small double" and low and behold, they had a small double available at the top of the hotel (no lifts). Upon finding the room, the key didn't fit the lock. We returned it, the receptionist tried it and it definitely wasn't the right key. The room next door was also available, the key to that room did eventually work but took a lot of fiddling about. The room was definitely small, very tired looking and not very clean but we had a bed for the night. Loads of arguments with Agoda (who don't speak very good English) including overhearing Agoda speak to the receptionist on the phone lead me to believe the Hotel rather than Agoda. Just a coincidence that the room I'd "booked" for £62 was still available but for £20 more. Obviously The Castle Hotel would remove their listing on Agoda as they didn't work with them but on that day they were still advertising rooms and today (6 weeks later) they are still on Agoda's website.
The receptionist informed us the bar would not be open but breakfast would be available in the restaurant downstairs from 07:30. Sleep wasn't great on a lumpy mattress with paper-thin pillows then down to breakfast. Found the totally deserted "restaurant" and helped ourselves to the meagre offerings of 3 choices of cereal and a yoghurt before finding the bread-bin and making toast in a toaster set on virtually zero heat. Coffee was just instant rubbish and the orange juice that eventually arrived via a visit to the reception was like orange squash.
We left very unhappy but then spent 4 nights in a tent which was much more comfortable.

I'd rather sleep in a dumpster than pay anything to this hovel again.

Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!
My room (7) was so cold I slept fully clothed! There are no staff to complain to, all the hotel facilities are closed so no restaurant, no bar, bedroom was freezing, bathroom slightly colder, no housekeeping so you make your own bed and use a damp towel on day two as you can't dry it .... and they charge you £118 per night for the privilege.....
I would have complained to the staff to give them the opportunity to fix the issues and not posted on here but there are no staff 🤷🏼‍♂️
My advice - avoid and stay at a Premier Inn.

My sister and I stayed here for two nights when we had a family emergency. I specifically asked when I called to book, what the breakfast arrangement was. I was told that the kitchen was being renovated and that they only served a full English at the weekend. This was not true and nor did we see any renovations in progress. In fact the breakfast was served in a dark aged and musty breakfast area reminiscent of a basement. The bread was left out overnight and there was no staff evident when we were trying to figure out how to fill up the kettle.

We booked the bridle suite as it was supposed to be the best room and it smelled like sewer in the room - it was small and smelled of air freshener (probably to hide the smell). The bathroom was great however. I would be disappointed if I were using this after my wedding. It was also six flights of stairs with heavy cases and no help.

I would never recommend staying here again!

All booking prices are controlled by a computer booking system, not the receptionist. The correct price should have been for 3 x people on the wedding discount rate £85.00. That is a double/twin £70.00, plus an additional person £15.00. When you rang the hotel direct, the problem was rectified and £5.00 was refunded. I apologize if you feel the receptionist was rude, this is not normally the case. Should you wish to take this matter further, please contact the Duty Manager direct. Kind Regards Mike Roberts
