We booked into this impressive hotel to combine my niece's wedding and our 30 wedding anniversary. Perhaps we have been spoiled by Spa Hotels in Germany but if this is what one is to expect as the standard in England, then it is very poor. The most positive aspect was the organisation and wedding function. The food was excellent and the wedding was a day that our niece will remember. However the quality and choice of wine offered was very poor, but this seems to be par for the course in the UK together with the expense. We are spoiled in Germany!
The unsatisfactory part of our stay was that this hotel was advertised as a Spa, the swimming pool was so heavily chlorinated that it affected me for days, as if I had a heavy cold, the sauna was very small and that was the extent of the Spa! Our bedroom windows were not clean and there was mould in the fridge. The person who came up to clean it said "oh it's not too bad!" sorry but this is claimed to be a 5-star hotel! The dining arrangements were peculiar separating different guest groups into different rooms but then having to walk to another room for the buffet. There was no elevator for luggage to the first floor and in struggling up the winding staircase with heavy cases resulted in a pulled back muscle! In all it was a very expensive weekend for what we expected.

I realise that everything was affected by Covid but anyone staying at this hotel should lower their expectations. Communication prior to the visit was poor. I submitted my preferred times for breakfast as requested by the hotel reception had not note of this. I rang to request a room with a bath - the receptionist mentioned this on our arrival. We lugged our cases to our room up stairs to find it has a shower ... My husband was then sent to check that the new proposed room did actually have a bath in it! Although the evening meal itself could not be faulted (particularly as I have a lot of food intolerences) there was only one person - Constantine from Romania - serving about ten tables and also serving at the bar across the passageway! Apparently all other staff were on furlough. He did a sterling job by himself.
Breakfast the next morning was a different matter. There was one woman in charge and two other ladies serving who didn't seem to know what they were doing or which table had ordered what (there were only about eight tables full maximum). We were served our fruit salad and literally a few minutes later our cooked breakfast appeared. The woman in charge stood at our small round table until we picked up our fruit salad bowls so that she could put the hot food down! There was no suggestion she was going to return the dishes to the kitchen to be brought out again when we were ready for them. I was too shocked to ask for this to happen at the time. I am intolerent to mushrooms and beans. Despite telling the lady in charge this when she took my order and despite the kitchen having a list of my food intolerences, both items were served on my plate. We were refunded the cost of breakfast and cancelled breakfast at the hotel the next morning.
The pool at the spa was disappointing and marked off in three lanes so you could only swim up and down. I appreciate this was due to Covid; fair enough. The sauna, steam room and gym were also shut for the same reason. My luxury pedicure was nothing of the sort (a very uncomfortable experience) but my payment was refunded which I appreciated.
The hotel did try and make up for a poor experience by refunding some of our costs but overall the stay was disappointing.

Thank you for your review. I was most concerned to read your comments, as the issues raised are certainly not in keeping with the standards, quality and customer care normally associated with our hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies for the shortfalls experienced on this occasion. We are always looking to improve our guest experience and using feedback is one way of us knowing where to improve. If you would like to speak to me in person then please call me on 01276 413 101. Kind regards Peter Redden Hotel Manager

We visited the Linden restaurant at the hotel for afternoon tea and had a lovely time. I was a bit worried after reading the reviews but our experience was good. They were able to accomodate a vegan in our party easily and without fuss. The restaurant is also easily accessible for a wheelchair user (door located around the side of the hotel). It's true that there is not a selection of teas to choose from but we were happy with coffee and English breakfast tea. The staff were attentive; they refilled the tea pots promptly after I asked each time. The selection of cakes was good and we were so full we were unable to finish everything. When we asked for a doggy bag they gave us some boxes to take the rest home. I brought the afternoon tea experience on groupon and was happy with what I paid and would recommend this to a friend.

We booked the £495 Christmas couples break, this was for 2 nights Christmas Eve, Christmas Day with check out on Boxing Day, food included. Initial impression was good friendly check in and the reception decorated nicely for Christmas. The room however, small dirty, in need of a good paint, and the tv faulty which was replaced upon request. This hotel has a spa, we had both checked by around 3pm, only to find the swimming pool open until 4-30pm, managed a quick swim before being ushered out by staff cleaning around me whilst I had a shower, not overly friendly! Then evening dinner after two poorly cooked steaks (at a supplement cost according to the menu) I gave up, the waiter was good offered to waive the supplement and we had a bottle of wine. Nothing Christmasy about the dinner or any entertainment or anything special for the holidays that’s night. OK maybe Christmas would be better, we did gifts in our room headed for a walk, then thought we would use the spa, NO it shut at 12-30, admittedly if I had researched this I would have found out but a member of staff should have told us! Christmas dinner was slow and a laboured affair with a very boring a tasteless prawn cocktail (straight out the fridge) and a tasteless turkey dinner which took around two hours to get, we were all done by 5ish, no evening buffet no entertainment, so it’s back to a crumbling room for the rest of the evening to watch TV. Overall and expensive experience in a hotel last it’s best . At the end they had the nerve to add in a service charge. We won’t be back, I only booked this initially as had a nice stay T the McDonald hotel in Windsor.

I was sad to read the recent reviews which seem less than complimentary. We stayed one night on a discounted deal and I can honestly say it was worth every penny. We had an accessible room (not totally ideal as shower over shallow bath) which, okay, was not 100% tatty free, but not all hotels have brand new fixtures and fittings. It was spotlessly clean which is what you need. The weather was dank and miserable so drawing the heavy curtains and putting on the soft lamplight meant we were very cosy. Comfy bed and pillows. There was in room cool/warm air conditioning so no problem with being warm as toast. The staff were attentive and gave us a warm welcome and we were treated with respect throughout, the restaurant staff for dinner and breakfast could not do enough for us and were generous and polite without being cloying. The restaurant is s bit on the cool side (too early in the year to light those roaring fires) so bring a warm jumper (we didn’t!). Now, the FOOD!! Definitely a strong point, full of flavour, beautifully cooked, prettily presented - the baked cheesecake was divine! All credit to the chefs. Same for breakfast, cleanly cooked, good selection of buffet items brought straight to table for you because of the virus. We would stay again. Thank you frimley hall!

We came here for a much needed break. The venue itself is stunning. We stayed in their four poster suite, the main bedroom is an octagon with beautiful lead lined windows around half of the room with lovely views over the grounds. The staff are so attentive and very friendly, particularly the front of house manager Mihai. I could not fault the service, they went out of their way to adjust to dietary needs, the restaurant manager yasmin really was fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble for them. The grounds are so peaceful, it was a joy to sit out early in the morning. They have done a great job in trying to protect both staff and guests, hand sanitizers are everywhere, and a simple timeslot system for meals to help with social distancing. Thank you so much! We will be visiting again!

I booked this hotel as had a deal overnight stay Breakfast and two treatments each at £278.00 .
The Hotel is looking very tired with paint falling off walls and ceilings and room was mediocre which was very hot. Premier Inn rooms are much nicer.
Spa, the pool was very small with 5 sunbeds and 6 chairs so couldnt relax anywhere and the pool wad full of children dive bombing or parents throwing them in so atmosphere wasn't relaxing.
Evening meal was on a set menu which can be annoying if you dont like thats offered but managed to pick something but daughter didn't eat her starter as only option but least she tried it x food was very tasty but very small portions.
The young man who brought your food out threw your plates down and acted as if he was doing it as a punishment and really didnt want to be there but the head guy was very nice and always asking how our food was.
We had a drink each from the bar one malibu and lemonade and pink Gin and lemonade which came to £27.00 pounds!
Which I found out as reception rang my room at 21.30pm to settle the bill as its hotels policy to pay! You need a code to get out of the car park! I wasn't going anywhere! So I went down in my pj's as I was in bed!
HEN party was going on two rooms away and they were very loud and needed to ring reception to get them to lower the noise but it didnt make a differnce so I didnt sleep very well if at all.
Breakfast, I am a vegetarian and wasn't sure if I could order alternatives as wasnt told and had to give my breakfast to waitress to heat in microwave as it was stone cold which was surprising as we were there first thing 8.00am so must have been sitting there a while.
So Breakfast (beans, toast, hash brown) wasn't great and a greasy spoon would have been better, orange juice was nice.
Treatments, I had back massage and facial which for my first time ever having them was really nice and Jeanie (I think) the lady was really nice and friendly and was really interested in you which was lovely.
So unfortunately my first ever spa day has left me disappointed and very expensive for what you get and will not be staying or recommended this hotel again.

Had very pleasant stay with Valentines' deal DBB for a night (champagne, rose for the lady) and B&B further night, made extra special by included cream tea on final day because did 2 nights. Awful weather weekend made so much more enjoyable by helpful reception staff, ease of parking, lovely warm 17m pool for swim, tasty food served by courteous and helpful waiting staff in both evening and breakfast, with good choices, really tasty fresh country style bread. Room good in many ways but a little cramped with very limited number of plug sockets e.g. for charger; and noisy plumbing; but nice bed and kept very clean. Good room (and bedside) lighting, not always found in other hotels. Quiet location, easy access from/to A30, M3, A325 so even in very bad weather could get to interesting National Trust properties within an hour. Definitely worth booking direct with hotel for best deal especially as we had dietary issues. Chef then took trouble to call and discuss in advance, much appreciated, and we had very pleasant meal. Wine a little expensive. Hotel is slightly dated, but interesting history, well maintained. Had hoped there's be some free newspapers, as can often get in other hotels, to relax with in lounge, but none available. Good gym and sauna spa facilities we didn't use. Good range of ages and diversity of cultures among guests. Shame if Brexit stops largely East European staff from staying; a number of them made a positive contribution to our successful weekend.

We stayed here as a family on a secret escapes deal of bed, 3 course dinner, full breakfast to include a cream tea on arrival. For £119 per room it was a very good deal, even if it was the end of January. It was very good value for money at that rate but I don’t think it would have been worth full price. This review is mainly to warn anyone needing a disabled bedroom that they cannot get to the restaurant from their room unless they can manage stairs. Access to and from reception and the restaurant from the bedroom is from outside the building as the hotel is on a slope. The room was about 100metres away which we had to mainly ferry our 95 year old relative backwards and forwards by car for meals as it’s a slope and she was unsteady on her feet. We know the building is old but I feel this should have been pointed out on booking. There are also no lifts in the building which we knew in advance. Also, we were told that bottled water was not available in standard rooms, which we were in, despite the website saying it was available in all rooms. We took our own anyway, but just wanted to warn of this as even many 3 star hotels provide water these days.

Just returned from a two day break. After booking (which included a request for a walk in shower) I received an e-mail telling me my booking was upgraded. Very pleased and I thanked the check in staff on arrival. We were shown a room without a walkin shower, (Needed as my wife has mobility issues). We then were given a large room for our stay. When booking I asked about dining and was told as well as the restaraunt bar food would be available. I could not access the menu app. with my phone and asked just for a snack and ordered a burger and a mushroom risotto. I then made the mistake of ordering a bottle of basic house red wine. The cost of these three items was £58.00! I leave this to any reader to judge the value for money. Both burger and risotto were small and very basic and the wine was also ordinary. Diner beware and check the price before ordering. I will look at alternative accomadation for my next visit .

I think they run offers with different companies so maybe it depends which agent you book with maybe refer back to the hotel and ask if they will refund the difference

There is a pool area which isn’t particularly bit and if you want a relaxing environment where you can lounge by the water then it’s not for you. It was quite loud with lots of children when I went which wasn’t what I was looking for. Spa treatments you HAVE to book in advance!!

No classes. It's not really a spa. Just a small hotel swimming pool shared with hotel guests (so lots of screaming kids) with 3 treatment rooms and a small gym.
