Overnight stay to celebrate the wife's birthday and to break a weekend of driving around the Surrey hills. The room (Sandown) was very cosy and well kitted out with kettle, coffee machine, TV and black out blinds. The bed was really comfortable with a mattress topper, feather quilt and pillows. My only criticism would be that the bedside lighting was...

Stopped off halfway through a jaunt in the hills of Surrey. Two pies and two roast beef between us, roast was very good and a big thumbs up on the pie. Worth a stop off visit for Sunday dinner and a pint.

A lovely stay in 'the gatehouse' with my wife this weekend. We stayed here ahead of a trip to Denbies for an evening of wine tasting (it cost £5) in a taxi to get to Denbies. The staff were very welcoming and the cottage was lovely and cosy - extremely well priced. Be warned, however, that there isn't dedicated parking...

Called here for Friday lunch having not visited for some years. Bar busy but able to find a table in the main bar area. My Salmon fish cake was a small portion of one cake with poached egg. Large portion of 2 fish cakes would have been too much. My spouse had the chicken leek and ham hock pie which...

We attended a wedding locally and needed a B&B for one night. The Running Horses was full of character. Our room was cosy, very comfortable & beautifully decorated with a lovely ensuite. The breakfast was amazing & we were surprised by not just a cooked breakfast but a menu with cooked options. The staff were very helpful & we would...

Stayed here the night so as not to have a long drive to Gatwick before our Lanzarote foray, of which more elsewhere. Good welcome from the manager immediately set a positive tone which remained throughout. We stayed in the Gatehouse, a few yards down the road from the pub itself and having the advantage of its own parking place as...

I stayed here for a business trip and was given the Cheltenham room. This was a lovely cosy room with a fabulous double bed. The en suite shower room was small but smart and had a lovely shower. Everything was provided, tea, coffee pods to use in the machine, water, toiletries. I really enjoyed my stay here. If I had...

I booked one night here as I was due to pick up a relative from Gatwick early the next day and preferred somewhere with 'character' for this trip, rather than a chain hotel. I did not eat dinner here as I had eaten during my journey down and would have struggled to get a table in this pre Christmas week...

Booked to stay on a Saturday night in The Gate House, as we were attending an evening wedding reception close by. Our room was cosy & comfortable and all the staff were very attentive, friendly & helpful. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant when we arrived and staff arranged a taxi to take us to the wedding venue....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire. ... more   less
