The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire.

Booked a dinner with family coming afar but received a email to say cancelled because they are now full. Was offered a later time but with a young baby just not suited. Need to sort out the management of this place as your ruining family get togethers.

Hi there, I apologise that we were unable to fit your group in at the requested time. When you make a booking enquiry online via our website, it states very clearly that it is only an enquiry and not a confirmed booking - this then comes to us, and is confirmed depending on availability. Unfortunately on this occasion we were already fully booked for the time you requested, so we responded to your enquiry and suggested a few alternative time slots. I apologise that it wasn’t suitable for you group on this occasion - kind regards.

We visited this pub on Wednesday after a client recommended it. It looked cute from outside and had a nice fire going in the bar area. We were taken to our table at the back of the restaurant which was absolutely freezing. We were all frozen through and couldn’t wait to leave to

My husband stayed here for one night, but was charged twice. And that’s where the hassle began, the manager never returned his calls when he occasionally came to the phone. Then 40 mins on the phone to the bank as after a month it had still not been paid back. Then a phone call

We used to celebrate our wedding anniversary here, and we'd thought to look in on an evening to see how it had changed. It had, but not for the better I'm afraid. Service at the bar was poor with queues to the door. The restaurant had no atmosphere being merely functional.

Hi. The Pub/Inn is approximately 7 miles from the Downs. There are two routes, one via the main road and one the scenic route but both about the same distance and travelling time - about 15 minutes (allow 20 for traffic and more if there's a race meeting to attend). Don't know how much a taxi would cost but ring Ashtead Taxis who are very helpful on 01372 390309 and they should be able to tell you. Hope this helps.

"It’s a quiet area so I don’t suppose it matters which room you have."
"I didn't stay overnight, but plan to do so"
"Look for another place if you want a beer"
"The Gatehouse is away from the pub so is very quiet, and it also has a lounge area which is very comfortable. The shower was brilliant."
