Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The name over the door says ‘Hotel, Bar and Restaurant’, but this is definitely a pub – albeit a half-timbered, possibly 14th century pub. We arrived looking for Reception and were eventually directed to a small cubby-hole at the end of the bar. Alex Polizzi (The Hotel Inspector) would have a fit, as she thinks it’s very important for Reception to be clearly visible. Staff behind the bar were pleasant enough, but clearly too busy to be doing anything other than serving drinks. There were innumerable small flights of stairs up and down on the way to our room (The Johnson Suite), the décor of which rather defied description. It wasn’t very warm (1º outside), but the bathroom was warm. There was a good-sized walk-in shower, but the grouting was in need of re-doing, especially around the base of the shower cubicle. Wifi was non-existent, at least in our room (it might have been available in the bar.) When we returned after going to the theatre in Stratford, disco/karaoke was blasting out; then a party continued in a room near ours until after midnight. Suffice to say I didn’t get much sleep. Breakfast was freshly cooked and featured the usual ‘English breakfast’ menu. But why no black pudding? Cereal was available, but no fruit. We consumed it to the strains of White Christmas. So, probably not our sort of hotel; but everyone else seemed perfectly happy, so I guess it’s just us.

Staff need training in the art of how to speak to customers. Turned up early for our booking to be greeted by the back of a lady who was busy doing “something very difficult” and couldn’t even be bothered to turn round. When she finally turned round, no greeting or apology for keeping us waiting, couldn’t find our booking even when we showed her our booking reference. Said she would clear a table. Then proceeded to carry on doing what she was doing before we turned up. Waited for something to happen, anything but nothing, decided to go somewhere else where We were greeted with a smile and seated straightaway. I think the white swan should take a leaf out of the mounts book

We booked a table and walked in to be greeted with a lady behind a bar saying I'm busy please wait. 10 minutes later, there was no table, despite the lady saying she would clear and re lay. A waitress walked past with 2 plates of slop, so we walked across the road to be greeted by a polite young man at the Mount. Give your staff some training! We won't return

Great location and perfect for us attending a party in the town. It’s a 14thC building with lots of stairs and connecting corridors, so if you have accessibility issues it’s a slog. Our room was a bit dated and we found a dirty sock by the bed when we checked in. There was no wifi in the rooms, it just didn’t extend from the bar and the hot water was not as hot as the warnings in the shower. However, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very tasty. And there’s free parking which is a plus in Henley. Would probably stay again if in the area.

As a group of six, we ordered food but for one couple their choice was unavailable so they chose again. Four meals arrived and the other two only after everyone else had finished eating. It was lukewarm and the plates were cold. The garlic bread wasn’t properly toasted and was inedible. The fire wasn’t lit and the bar was increasingly cold. We feel really disappointed by all this as we are locals and have had many happy evenings in this venue in the past 😢.

Very old with a lot of character and original features. We stayed in the Samuel Johnson suite over looking the main road. Opposite is the church with hourly clock chimes from 07:00 to 21:00 hrs Staff very welcoming and friendly breakfast to a good standard. Free parking at rear so that was useful.

Very disappointed, arrived 5 minutes early for our booking of 6 people. Asked if we could order drinks but told no as we were too early and other customers needed to be served first. We did then get offered drinks. 10 minutes later. We then ordered our food, there were a lot of items out of stock, which we were told before we ordered. The waitress came back to tell us they had ran out of sirloins, as they only have sirloins and ribeyes in the menu as steaks this we felt very disappointed with. This should have been disclosed before we ordered. A chef should know how many steaks that have before service starts. Our drinks were given complementary but only because our lead party requested that. We left without eating. I know situations arise in venues with food deliveries ect. But I feel this should have been addressed sooner. I also felt as if we were in the way and not valued as customers. Very very disappointed. As new managers I just hope for your sake this will be addressed quickly to prevent you loosing more customers.

We visited The White Swan in Henley in Arden at 4pm hoping to have something to eat but unfortunately the kitchen was closed. The new landlord came over and chatted to us and kindly offered us a plate of food from the buffet that they had provided for a group and it was absolutely delicious. I look forward to visiting the pub again if that is the standard of food and hospitality. Good luck to Craig the new landlord and his team.

Sunday lunch . We were very disappointed with the limited choice of starters . We were a party of 6 and only 2 ordered them. Main meals arrived and all were excellent and well presented . Will return but would appreciate more choice of starters …

Yesterday we held a wake, after my mother’s funeral, at the Stoneaged restaurant at the White Swan. The organisation and the food were both excellent and many of our friends and family commented on that. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My sister and I will certainly recommend this restaurant.
