Me & hubby had been out for the day & stopped off here for a quick afdternoon meal, good to find the place was nearly empty so we thought we would get served quick. My husband wanted a carvery but it was broken so was not ac=valiable so they were serving dinners from the kitchen instead & i had a samon meal, the food was not too bad. The drinks we had was a whisky & lemonade which was not priced too bad but i had just a slimline tonic which cost £3.00, almost as much as the whisky & lemonade which was very overpriced. So for that reason we will not rush back there.

Firstly, I need to mention that all the staff whom I met during my stay were all lovely, warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also really nice.
It seems to be that Hockley House has been partially renovated, there is new wallpaper and some new looking carpets. However...in my room..the bathroom was simply grim and dirty. The toilet seat was falling off. The shower drain was overflowing. The shower grouting was mouldy and black. The shower seal was peeling off. The toilet brush contained it's "previous user". There were yellow "splash marks" on the tiles next to the toilet. Toothpaste splashes on the mirror...not mine. The toilet was leaking, and there was dirty limescale surrounding the loo..so not a new leak. Shower extract was full of spider webs. The windowsill in the bedroom was wet, peeling and contained, what appeared to be a whole season of dead flies. The bedding, had obviously been laundered, but had big stains on it. It was pretty late last night when all of this was noticed, so fair enough I didn't report this last night. I spoke to reception this morning and received a sincere apology.
The hotel is being let down by basic lack of cleaning and just basic maintenance. It could be so nice here.

Accomodation and drinks great value for money.
Table service outside was great. Restaurant service poor to begin with sat 25 minutes in the end had to get up and ask if my order could be taken, was the only person in that restaurant to begin with, 2 couples came in 15 minutes after me and got served first. Soup was real bland, fish batter was bright yellow underneath, thought food was over priced. Breakfast was a poor quality ok it was only £7 but it wasn't hot and not cooked great. This place could be brilliant if they upped there game on the food.

Hotel is easy to find and has a lot of well lit car parking available. The hotel wasn’t busy and as we had reserved the room on Hotel.com all our details had been collected so check in was quick. We paid for the room, instructed to pay for breakfast the next morning in the breakfast room.
The room was very basic, a tray with kettle, T bags, coffee was available. I have slept in better beds, the springs in both mattresses on the single beds were way past their best. Bed sheets and towels were very clean and smelled fresh. Quite a lot of dirty marks on the walls, but maybe the hotel have plans to give it a coat of paint. Sound proofing between walls and even rooms above isn’t good but thankfully occupants in rooms next door and above did retire at a reasonable time so was quiet enough to get to sleep.
The shower had plenty hot water, but there was no anti slip mat and shower base was extremely slippery, on top of this the drain must have been partially block and the tray filled almost to the top while having a shower and took some time to run away before the next person could shower.
The bar area was clean, comfortable and seemed freshly decorated, drinks were priced on the high side, the food we felt was reasonably priced and our meal of fish and chips was very good as it was part of the 2 for 1 deal.
In the breakfast room we waited to seated and told the waitress we had been told at check in to pay for breakfast in the breakfast room. I was asked for £18.90 for 2 breakfast’s so questioned the price as the web site said breakfast £6.95 each payable at hotel. The waitress told us £6.95 each if paid for while checking in, £8.95 each if paid for in the morning. I explained we were not given that option at check in and in fact were instructed to pay at breakfast time in the morning. She said there was nothing she could do and it would be the full price of £6.95 and that was it. We said then out of principle we would have breakfast at all. Seems to me it’s a good way the hotel can get extra money out of people by Charing at breakfast time rather than explaining the offer at check in. When I said we will explain this situation in our review we were then offered our breakfast for FREE ... we said no thank you, we didn’t want a free breakfast we just wanted to be treated fairly and should have been offered the price of £6.95. All in all for all of the above, Not Happy Won’t Be Back as there are other hotel choices in the area.

Hi Thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback after reading your review your I would as you to send us a email (enquiries@theoakhotel.com) of the date of stay and time of check in as I would like to look into this further breakfast is to be offed at the time of checkin at the discounted price of £6.95 Breakfast not pre ordered is £8.95 so this is an error of the receptionist and I would like to deal with this as soon as possible so this does not continue to happen We are in the process of having new matresses and redecoration of the rooms to match the rest of the venue we as a hotel do not provide anti slip mats in the shower as they increase the risk of Legionella bacteria we understand your frustration with the drainage and it is something the company is looking into i look forward to your email

Well where do I start, firstly if I could give no stars I would! Booked and confirmed function room in February for a party in July, paid £250 for a deposit to secure the room which wasn’t an issue. Then COVID hit through no fault of anyone’s but naturally the party didn’t go ahead because hotels and parties were closed/forbidden at the time. I called up before the party was to go ahead to discuss options with the hotel, firstly they refused a refund, I then got offered vouchers which I didn’t want because I live near to the venue why would I need vouchers to stay at the hotel. Then eventually after weeks of battling and trying to get in touch with the right person, I receive a email stating they agreed to a refund and to call them when they are available in the office. I called, couldn’t get through to the so called manager (Emma), I was told she was busy and the message would be passed on, it wasn’t!!!! I then emailed AGAIN stating I had phoned, left my contact details still no response from them. After two very abrupt emails still nothing! This place clearly does not know what customer service is never mind good customer service. I would not recommend having any sort of party here if this is the way they treat their customers. If the party did go ahead I wouldn’t of been surprised if it was a shambles based on my experience. Absolutely disgusting the way this has been handled! No wonder it has changed names and it wouldn’t surprise me if this business does not last very long unless new management is put in place! You guys will be hearing from my bank to retrieve my deposit! Good luck!

We organise and run a folk/rock evening the first Thursday of every month at the Oak Hotel. On this occasion we worked with Shaun, the manager, to deliver a New Year’s Eve Party for 90 people;all our friends, so no pressure! Our band provided the music and the “DJ” between sets , and Shaun’s team provided an excellent buffet supper and a very cozy set of rooms for the event. The staff couldn’t do enough to help, seem very well organised and also managed a big wedding going on at the other end of the hotel very well. All in all everyone said it was a well organised, good value, great atmosphere event and lots of fun.

From the photographs on the website you think you are booking into a quaint village hotel but this is quite a big 50+ room hotel. When you approach it, the trees are pleasantly lit up, and the lights in the long bar and restaurant burn in a welcoming way. A lot of effort has been put in to presenting the hotel from the front. You hit the first obstacle at reception which is unmanned. After enquiring at the bar you are told that they will try to find the manager. When he arrived he is totally unfriendly and unwelcoming. He looks at you without smiling and just says “Name”. Then he shoves a piece of paper at you and says “Car reg and sign”. He hands you the key to the room and walks away and you are left to find your way up the stairs (no lift) to what we discovered was the top floor.

Once you are the other side of reception you can see that things have begun to fade. The rooms have benefitted from a cheap looking make over at some point but paint is scratched, carpets as poor quality, there are the remains of flood marks on the ceiling and damp in the bathroom. The beds are old and even have springs poking through. The double glazing is blown. I returned to reception but the manager had gone and no one could help.

The following morning the new receptionist was a great contrast, bright, friendly and eager to help. She agreed about the issues, even trying out the bed for herself, and promised to organise a change of room. Later in the day she even called us to say that she had moved our luggage to a new room and thanked us for our patience.

The new room was on the ground floor in a much better position and was larger and cleaner though there were some similar defects in the plumbing, ceiling stains and poor carpeting. One of the main issues with the hotel is in its construction. Every floor except the ground floor creaks and a large part of the clientele are tradesmen who get up early so the noise starts at 5am and you can hear every footstep that is made overhead and on the adjoining rooms.

There is a good side. There is plenty of tea and coffee in the room. The morning and later the afternoon receptionists were good. The waiting staff at breakfast are very pleasant and helpful and when two yogurts were discovered to be off they replaced them immediately without and trouble. This happened everyday ans the apple juice on day 2 and 3 was strong enough to be cider. The food is well cooked although it is advertised as “Choose as little or as much as you would like” it is ordered, cooked fresh and brought to you. My vegetarian breakfast was one egg, one sausage, one hash brown, a spoonful of mushrooms and some baked beans. Not quite what I expected for “as much as you like”. The restaurant is clean and well laid out and the bar is similar and comfortable.

We were booked in for 3 nights and I am not sure I would return unless there were some changes for the better. Basically, Premier Inns are better quality and value for money.

We stayed here for one night to attend the
Commonwealth games. Free parking and on the outside the place looks great. We had dinner here which we enjoyed, stone baked pizza, 2 for 1. Our initial waitress had very little idea how to serve a table, refresh drinks etc. the second waitress seemed more attentive to the basics, refilling drinks, removing empty glasses and apologising when they got the dessert wrong. Good food, overall tasty.
The main and MAJOR issue of this place is sleep quality. You hear every noise, every toilet use of your neighbour and the creaky floor boards don’t stop. This wasn’t something I could have addressed earlier as it is only noticeable once in bed and through the night. We were placed on the ground floor and couldn’t open the window as this backs onto the car park, is accessible to the public and unsafe. The bathroom needed a good deep clean. Very basic mould in the bathroom, visible to guests could have been cleaned better and I was able to wipe off with my finger- see picture. There are signs everywhere stating no outside food or drink to be brought into the rooms. I found this quite odd and an eye sore (this is a wedding venue I see so probably used a deterrent to wedding guests?). When checking out, had I been asked how my sleep was I would have voiced this to the receptionist however she couldn’t be bothered to ask- poor customer service. When I visit somewhere sleep is vital. Sadly I couldn’t give this a better rating as it was dire.

Wonderful weekend at Hockley House, after a misunderstanding with rooms my partner and I had a round of alcoholic drinks and our meals paid for; I had the steak (which was delicious!) and my partner had the beef burger. Very generous of the manager for doing that for us!

We were always greeted when coming into the hotel after being out for the day and the restaurant was very fast serving our evening meal and breakfast!
The shower was always hot, the bed was very comfy and we couldn’t hear any other guests in their rooms during the late evenings/nights.

Overall an amazing weekend, we will definitely be coming here again, thank you Hockley House! :-)
