Ben is a friendly owner of this campsite and made us feel most welcome. We enjoyed walking across the fields and along the canals. Beautiful skies and peaceful spot a step away from the canal network. The Kings Head is a short walk away and serves good food.

A nice size area for motorhomes, caravans and tents. A warm welcome from the owner who told us which pitch we were in. Easy to fill motorhome on-board tank with water and able to pitch in any angle (parked length ways due to constant sun). Not able to see narrowboats on the

Stopped here for august 2017 bank holiday weekend. Unfortunately my caravan door didn't close properly when we were outside playing rounders with friends. My elderly Labrador got out and wondered towards us only to be grabbed by collar by owner of site and dragged with her front

Response from Wigrams, Owner at Wigrams
Responded 7 Sep 2017
Dear Guest I am very sad to read your review for several reasons. But first of all you may not realise, as others before, that this Trip Advisor entry is for Wigrams Guest House. There are more relevant sites for Wigrams Camp Site where other campers might see your post. We are very happy to welcome dogs, we are very family friendly and apart from our own pets, we encourage wildlife and enjoy guests bringing their own pets. We make the large field available for dog owners to let their dogs run freely and enjoy plenty of exercise. You will I am sure have benefited from this. The only stipulation is that the dog should be under control. The principle reason for this is that we have in the past had our chickens killed by dogs. If guests can’t keep their dog controlled then for the protection of our animals we must take action. We are far from cruel people. Your dog was found wandering through our vegetable patch, not wandering towards you. You would not have known this because you were busy with your sport. You only became aware of her when I bought her towards you. If it were clear that she was with your group, or wandering towards you I would have approached your first. I am sure your dog is very placid but we would not know this. In no way did I drag her with her front legs off the ground. First I wouldn’t be strong enough and second there would be no need as she was walking with me. When you bought your dog you were made aware of the conditions of bringing a dog on site. You did not let me know of her age and she seemed to have no trouble walking when I found her. You have accepted that you were at fault for letting the dog escape. We owe a duty of care not only to other campers who may not want loose dogs, but also to our own livestock. It can be distressing to see the result of the damage other dogs can do to a hen. I entirely accept that your dog might not be much of a risk but as I said, I would not know that at the time. We have several options for the campsite; one would be to prohibit dogs altogether and another would be to insist that dogs are tethered at all times. We want to avoid both of these scenarios, partly because we are not cruel but are animal lovers. We are aware that many sites forbid dogs. Another reason that your review makes me sad is that your group arrived with 4 units, you were in a prime location and you were all apparently enjoying an exceptionally pleasant weekend. As you say you were making full use of the lower field to enjoy a family game of rounders. I can see no way that your review of one point can be reasonable or fair for the sole reason that you did not like the way I dealt with your escaped pet. I can see that your standards are extremely high. I wonder if all the others in your party feel the same about your scoring. I am sorry you did not make your feelings known in person when you came to make your payment. I hope in future you find a campsite which is more relaxed about dogs wandering lose. Best wishes. Ben
