Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ah, the Roundabout hotel, a place where chaos reigns supreme and the guests are left questioning their decision to stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a server who seemed to have no knowledge of the menu or the concept of basic customer service. When we inquired about the roast beef, she simply shrugged her shoulders and mumbled something about it being "tougher than a retired drill sergeant." (Well maybe she was thinking that, as it turned out it was tough). The roast beef was changed without argument for the chicken... oh but we have no more chicken so it will have to be the gammon.... And don't even get me started on the chef. Instead of being in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for the guests, we found him sitting in an office chair at reception, watching footbal loudly and ignoring the chaos that was unfolding in the dining room. Needless to say, the lack of attention to detail was apparent in every aspect of our dining experience. But it's not all doom and gloom at the Roundabout hotel. The decor may be outdated and the service may be subpar, but the entertainment value is truly unmatched. From the wacky interactions between the staff to the never-ending mishaps that occur on a daily basis, you can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. So if you're in the mood for a good laugh and don't mind sacrificing a bit of quality in exchange for entertainment, then the Roundabout hotel is the place for you. Just make sure to bring your own dinner rolls, because the roast beef is definitely a no-go.

I am writing this review because I was shocked by some of the negative comments in the (minority) of poor reviews. We stayed at the Roundabout on a Sunday night in January - arrived 5.30 pm, ate an evening meal, had a good night's sleep, and ate a good breakfast. It was an overnight stop on a two day walking trip, and was exactly what we needed. Very few hotels/pubs/restaurants in the area serve meals on Sunday evenings - the Roundabout suited us well.

We had our wedding reception at the Roundabout on 6th January 2024 Sue the proprietor was very helpful throughout the whole process, helping us plan our reception and ensuring all went smoothly on the night. The function room was beautifully set up and suited the occasion perfectly. The buffet was beautifully displayed and the food was delicious. The staff were very attentive and accommodating, big thanks to them and the chef! We had 80 guests so the space was a little restricted but it all worked well and a great evening was had by everyone. Thank you The Roundabout!

We were told by a friend that the food was great so we booked a table for Sunday lunch with family. I must say I was very disappointed with the standard & portion size. There were no other bookings & I can see why , would not recommend

The quality of this hotel has significantly deteriorated since the new proprietor Andy assumed control, He is undoubtedly one of the rudest and most unskilled individuals I have had the misfortune of encountering, and he is unsuitable for any kind of career in the hotel service sector. He had a disagreeable and inhospitable demeanour so much so that one of his employees felt compelled to offer an apology to me on his behalf due to his discourteous behaviour towards me. I strongly advise against providing this hotel with payment in advance for your accommodation, as he will be dismissive and not take any action to ensure your comfort in the event of a problems. As for room it was dark and dingy with stains on the carpet, stains on the duvet covers, cracks in the walls, no bulbs in the lamp and a plastic toilet seat that wouldn’t stay up. The overall quality of the bed linen and pillows scream budget and are cheap and nasty and do not match the over inflated prices they charge. We were also horrified to wake up with loads of bites over our legs and arms that were consistent with bed bugs, god knows how old the mattresses are!!!. The customer service is truly horrendous,

We booked Christmas Day dinner . Sue said she would sort it all out for us. One of our party is disabled so we needed extra help and care. She was brilliant. She set up an area just for us which was perfect. As for the meal well it was the best Christmas dinner ever. 5 course meal and great value. We left thinking we will never have to eat again. Thank you Sue and your team!!! Sue has made The Roundabout Hotel the place to go for special occasions. Great food great service great price!

Odd stay, room was very hot and airless. This was Dec 22, the hotel was dead, no one in the bar, just staff lying around on sofas!! Very strange, no shampoo or conditioner in bathroom and when we enquired we were initially told they only had conditioner and were out of shampoo. After having to take a trip out to buy shampoo ourselves, at 11am exactly they were knocking on door to tell us it was check out time .. which was a bit annoying considering we had to take time to go and buy shampoo!! 15 min drive ! Plus hairdryer had broken hose. Anyway very disappointed.. definitely didn’t live up to the country hotel feel. Anyway as we rushed to vacate the room, I mentioned the lack of shampoo we were told to take it up “with head office “ ..

The hotel put on a lovely celebration of life lunch for my late father. The buffet lunch of sandwiches, salads and cakes was delicious and far exceeded our expectations. The venue was cosy and welcoming, adorned with Christmas decorations. The staff were friendly and efficient. Highly recommended for an event.

Warning: this hotel will make you sign upon checking in something which says you agree to be fined should you dare to order food into your room. You will then be shouted and sworn at by the extremely rude owner. Avoid at all cost.
